If You Are Willing | Matthew 8:1–17 — Faith, Authority & Trusting Jesus

Send us Fan Mail This week on Unfiltered Faith: Beyond the Church Walls, Evelyn and Krystal recap Wednesday night’s study through Matthew 8:1–17. NKJV Coming out of the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew begins showing us the authority Jesus had just been teaching with. We see Him cleanse a leper, respond to the remarkable faith of a Roman centurion, heal Peter’s mother-in-law, and minister to many who were sick and oppressed. But the conversation went much deeper than the miracles themselves. What does it mean to believe Jesus can do something while still trusting Him with whether He will? What can we learn from the leper’s words, “If You are willing…” and from Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego saying, “Our God is able… but if not”? We also talk about the centurion’s understanding of authority, why Jesus marveled at his faith, why there is no single “formula” for healing in these passages, and why the differences between Matthew, Mark and Luke are not something believers need to be afraid to examine. Through all three healings, one thing keeps coming back into focus: Faith is not about controlling the outcome. It is about trusting the One who has the authority. Scriptures discussed: Matthew 8:1–17, Mark 9:22–23, Daniel 3:17–18, Matthew 7:21–23, Matthew 4:13–16, Mark 1:29–34, Luke 4:38–41, Isaiah 53:4. 🎧 Available on all major podcast platforms — wherever you get your podcasts. Are We Comparing Apples to Apples? | Biblical Stewardship in a Culture of More

Send us Fan Mail This week on Unfiltered Faith: Beyond the Church Walls, Evelyn steps away from the regular Bible study recap for a bonus conversation about money, contentment, and biblical stewardship. We hear it all the time: “Our parents and grandparents could raise a family on one income, while families today struggle on two.” There is truth in that. Housing, groceries, insurance, healthcare, taxes, and everyday living costs have become real burdens for many families. But are we always comparing apples to apples? Our lifestyles, expectations, conveniences, spending habits, and definition of “necessity” have also changed. This episode isn’t about shaming people who are struggling or pretending the economy isn’t difficult. It’s about asking a personal question: Am I being faithful with what God has placed in my hands? Evelyn talks about wants versus needs, delayed gratification, debt, comparison, saving, generosity, contentment, and learning to manage our resources with wisdom. Scriptures discussed: Luke 16:10 1 Timothy 6:6 Proverbs 21:20 Proverbs 22:7 Luke 12:15 James 1:5 2 Corinthians 9:7 Hebrews 13:5 Beyond the Church Walls Bible Study resumes Wednesday, October 14, as we begin Matthew chapter 8. We’ve reached the end of Matthew 7—and the end of the Sermon on the Mount.

Send us Fan Mail We’ve reached the end of Matthew 7—and the end of the Sermon on the Mount. In this solo episode of Unfiltered Faith: Beyond the Church Walls, Evelyn recaps our Wednesday night Bible study through Matthew 7:13–29. We talk about the narrow gate, false prophets, spiritual fruit versus spiritual gifting, the sobering words “Lord, Lord,” hearing versus doing, the thief on the cross, and Jesus’ final picture of the wise and foolish builders. Through it all, one question keeps coming back: What are we doing with what Jesus has said? It’s possible to hear the Word, know Christian language, and even look spiritual from the outside—but Jesus continually brings us back to what is real underneath it all: relationship, obedience, fruit, and foundation. Scriptures discussed: Matthew 7:13–29, Galatians 5:22–23, James 1:22–25, Matthew 22:37–40, Luke 23:39–43, and 1 Corinthians 3:11. Schedule Update There will be no Wednesday night Bible Study on October 7, but we WILL have a new episode of Unfiltered Faith with a surprise bonus topic. 👀🎙️ Bible Study resumes Wednesday, October 14, when we begin Matthew chapter 8, and our regular Bible Study recap episodes will resume the following Saturday. Treasure, Trust, Discernment, and the Good Father — Matthew 6:19–34 & Matthew 7:1–12

Send us Fan Mail We missed last week’s podcast, so this episode of Unfiltered Faith: BTCW brings together two weeks of our Wednesday night Bible study. Host Evelyn and co-host Krystal walk through Matthew 6:19–34 and Matthew 7:1–12, looking at how Jesus’ teaching about treasure, money, worry, judgment, discernment, prayer, and relationships all connects. Evelyn was away in Michigan during the Matthew 6 study, so she shares what stood out as she studied the passage on her own and reviewed what the group covered. Then Evelyn and Krystal move into this week’s discussion of Matthew 7:1–12. In this episode: • Where your treasure is and what it reveals about your heart • The “good eye,” generosity, and holding money with an open hand • Why Jesus says we cannot serve two masters • The correct wording of 1 Timothy 6:10—the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil • Worry, provision, and trusting the Father • What it really means to “seek first the kingdom of God” • Why Matthew 6:33 is not a promise that believers will never experience hardship • What Jesus means by “Judge not” • The plank and the speck • Self-examination and discernment working together • Knowing when someone is ready to receive what you are sharing • Asking ourselves whether we are trying to restore someone—or simply trying to win • “Ask, seek, knock” as ongoing dependence on God • Trusting the goodness of the Father even when His answer is different from what we expected • The Golden Rule • Teaching patterns throughout the Sermon on the Mount • The “Law and the Prophets” framing found in Matthew 5:17 and Matthew 7:12 Throughout these passages Jesus keeps taking us deeper than outward behavior. What has my heart? Who am I trusting? What am I trying to control? Why am I saying what I am saying? How am I treating people? And am I allowing God’s Word to examine me before I become focused on what needs to change in somebody else? Matthew 6 teaches us to trust the Father with what we have, what we need, and what tomorrow holds. Matthew 7 reminds us that we also have to trust Him with people. Let the Word work on us first—and then let what God is doing in us show up in the way we live. 📖 Primary Scriptures: Matthew 6:19–34 Matthew 7:1–12 Additional Scriptures discussed include Proverbs 22:9, Deuteronomy 15:9, James 4:14, Philippians 4, and 1 Timothy 6:9–10. All Scripture references are from the New King James Version (NKJV). Training for Godliness | Matthew 6, Spiritual Disciplines & Faith That Shows | Unfiltered Faith

Send us Fan Mail n this episode of Unfiltered Faith: Beyond the Church Walls, Evelyn and co-host Krystal recap their Wednesday night Bible study through Matthew 6:1–18. What began as a discussion about giving, prayer, and fasting opened into a deeper conversation about spiritual disciplines, training for godliness, preparing the mind, endurance, faith and works, and what it means to pray, “Your kingdom come.” Together, they reflect on questions like: Why does Jesus say when you give, pray, and fast? What is the difference between private spiritual discipline and public spiritual fruit? How do prayer, fasting, Scripture, service, forgiveness, and obedience train us?What does James 2 teach us about faith becoming visible in how we live? What does it mean to “gird up the loins of your mind” in 1 Peter 1:13?Is the Kingdom of God present now, still future, or both? What does it look like for God’s Kingdom to become tangible in our everyday lives? This episode is a reminder that spiritual disciplines are not about earning God’s love or performing for people. They are part of how we learn to walk closely with Christ so that what God is doing privately in us eventually becomes visible through the way we love, serve, forgive, give, and obey. Scriptures: Matthew 6:1–18, James 2:14–17, 1 Timothy 4:7–8, 1 Peter 1:13, Matthew 5:16 Stay grounded. Stay faithful. Stay unfiltered. And keep living beyond the church walls. Untitled Episode Jesus Goes After the Heart | Matthew 5:13–48

Send us Fan Mail What does Jesus mean when He calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world? Did He come to do away with the Old Testament Law? Why does He repeatedly say, “You have heard that it was said...but I say to you”? And how can Jesus possibly tell imperfect people to “be perfect”? In this episode of Unfiltered Faith, Evelyn and Krystal continue through Matthew 5 and discover a common thread running through Jesus' teaching: God isn't interested only in outward obedience. He wants the heart. We talk about anger beneath murder, lust beneath adultery, justice versus personal revenge, loving people who don't love us back, and why following Jesus is about far more than checking religious boxes. We also go back to Leviticus to examine “love your neighbor,” God's command concerning the stranger, and the original context of “an eye for an eye.” Scriptures discussed: Matthew 5:13–48 Leviticus 19:18 Leviticus 19:33–34 Leviticus 24:20 The question we're left with isn't simply, “Am I following the rules?” It's: “What is happening in my heart—and am I becoming more like my Father?” Unfiltered Faith is a podcast of Beyond the Church Walls Ministry. What Does It REALLY Mean to Be Blessed? | The Beatitudes Explained | Matthew 5

Send us Fan Mail Matthew 5: The Beatitudes | Unfiltered Faith What does it really mean to be blessed? In this episode of Unfiltered Faith, Beyond the Church Walls Ministry and Good Grace Ministries continue our journey through the Gospel of Matthew as we step into Matthew 5 and the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus begins with words we've heard many times—the Beatitudes—but when we slow down and really look at what He is saying, they challenge the way the world defines blessing, strength, righteousness, mercy, and even success. We sit down for an unscripted conversation about Matthew 5:1–12, including: • Why did Jesus sit down before He began teaching? • What's the difference between being part of the crowd and truly being a disciple? • What does Jesus mean when He says “Blessed are…”? • Why does He begin with the poor in spirit? • What does biblical meekness really look like? • Are we truly hungering and thirsting for righteousness? • Do we want mercy for ourselves but justice for everyone else? • What's the difference between being a peacekeeper and a peacemaker? • Why does Jesus suddenly change from “those” to “you” when He begins talking about persecution? • And ultimately—if people watched our lives, would they see the Beatitudes being lived out? We also connect Matthew 5 with Luke 4:16–22, where Jesus stands to read from Isaiah, sits down, and makes an extraordinary declaration: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” — Luke 4:21 NKJVThis isn't about checking off a list of Christian behaviors. It's about allowing Jesus to transform us from the inside out. The question we're leaving with is simple: Jesus, which of these are You trying to develop in me right now? 🎙️ Unfiltered Faith Hosted by Beyond the Church Walls Ministry (BTCW) in fellowship with Good Grace Ministries (GGM).
