Archaeologically, the palace of David has been uncovered by (the late) Elat Mizar. Below the excavation (Area G, maybe where Bathsheba's house was located ?) is where Dr. John excavated for close to 5 weeks in June-July, 1982. This "cave encounter" between King Saul and young David happened somewhere here! Ein Gedi was one of a number of locations where Saul pursued David (see 1 Samuel 18-27).
