After discovering the key and taking refuge in the deep forest, our two heroes finally reunite to discover the place they have longed for since they were young. Behind the Story: When MacDonald was just a boy, his mother passed away from tuberculosis. Sadly, as he grew up, several of his brothers died from the exact same illness. Because he was surrounded by so much early loss, he made it his life’s mission to look for comfort in hard times—and to help his readers find that exact same peace through his writing. Behind the Story: Frances Hodgson Burnett wrote this book while processing the tragic loss of her 16-year-old son, Lionel, who passed away in her arms from tuberculosis. One of the characters in the story was born out of her deep, maternal heartbreak and her desire to see a child heal. More on that to follow.
