    Louisiana Has $1.2 BILLION Waiting to Be Claimed | Episode 4

    In this episode, Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming, M.D., discussed the highly successful unclaimed property program. There is currently $1.2 billion in unclaimed property to return to Louisiana citizens. Each year, businesses turn over millions of dollars in unclaimed cash, stocks, bonds, securities, and insurance proceeds to the Louisiana State Treasurer's Office. These assets are known as “unclaimed property,” and can include payroll checks, old bank accounts, royalties, utility deposits, interest payments, stock certificates, and life insurance proceeds. Treasurer Fleming said, “We have made searching for your name and claiming your money easy. Citizens can check online at LaCashClaim.org, or call (888) 925-4127.”

    In this episode, Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming, M.D., reviewed the critical functions of the State Bond Commission. He also described the emergency actions taken by the State Bond Commission in response to the fiscal crisis in New Orleans. On a positive note, Dr. Fleming reviewed Fitch’s recent upgrade in the state’s rating outlook to “positive” and how that signals national recognition for Louisiana’s improving economy and fiscal discipline.
