My guest this week was Siddarth Pai, Founder, CEO, and MD of Sahasranshu Technologies. And Siddarth is on a mission. In his mission, Bhaarath is at the epicenter. What He’s Actually Building Whatever Siddarth builds has to do with how domestic tech capabilities are strengthened. Building for the world from India is the key. He has a deep background and experience in decision systems, data analysis, visualization, and AI-powered multi-sensor system design. The promise of the function he is building: process sensor data, polish it to what’s required, pass it through, analyse it, correct it if it’s erroneous, collate multi-sensor data across domains, infer, analyse, and present it in a single homogenous view. Naturally, this can apply to multiple domains. Heterogeneous industries, defence tech, continuous process plants, manufacturing, cross-domain reportage, and so on. But the platform is focusing on the immediate requirements of GoI specific agencies. That’s a deliberate choice. He’s ensuring he doesn’t allow scope creep to stall progress, staying as laser sharp as possible to ensure product adoption and growth of the business. The Networking Problem He Solved a Decade Early Having been an above-average networker, Sid has a wide range of followers and social coverage, which he continues to build. The number 1 handicap I find in most tech founders is not willing or disliking social networking. That is a problem Siddarth solved a decade before he started his venture. Karmabhoomi and Janmabhoomi, By Design Another striking thing I noticed about Sid is that he has chosen, by design, to locate his karmabhoomi at his janmabhoomi. His place of work will also be the same as his place of birth. Literally. I can relate to the joy of this move. I come from the same beautiful coastal town of Manipal. And this is not just infatuation. This belt, increasingly called the Silicon Beach of India, is the stretch of beautiful coastal land abutting the Arabian Sea on one side and a setting of rivers on the other. Arguably one of the finest, most beautiful coastal belts of India, this is where the next innovation engine is emerging. The belt is rich with vibrant culture, loaded with tradition, great food, wonderful people, and a kickass lifestyle unmatched to this day. The Timing, and the Wave He’s Catching The challenges of being a B2G player by choice are clearly in Siddarth’s awareness. And his timing is opportune, because India is currently in a siege of native development of defence tech more than ever before. The number of defence tech startups, both funded by government grants and scaling with growth capital, has never happened before. GoI’s ‘Go Local’ and ‘Make in India’ push has been such a stupendous success that these natively incubated firms are growing fins, and now also exporting tech to other countries. This is exactly the wave that Sid is catching and planning to ride. The Cautionary Note As a cautionary suggestion, I raised the potential for scope creep. A classic event in most government contracts worldwide. I brought up the potential hazards of treading that dangerous path, and told him to always ask himself: what should we not build? A stringent filter, to avoid creating a monster platform that does too little for everyone, instead of doing the most unmatched depth of one thing that no one in the world can match. We also discussed the undefined path of B2G sales. A hard nut for anyone to crack, let alone a fledgling new startup. This rabbit hole, across the world, has sunk many known 900-pound gorillas. The AI Line I Won’t Bat A Lid At AI in Sahasranshu, in Sid’s own words, does the work of a 10-member team. I will not bat a lid for a moment, because this is what I have seen in my own daily routine. If not for AI, I would now need at least half a dozen more team members. Those jobs are gone. They will never come back—no matter what HR staff tell you. Overall, a great conversation. Siddarth Pai is Founder, CEO & MD of Sahasranshu Technologies (sahasranshu.com), building sovereign decision intelligence platforms for India’s defence, maritime security, and strategic infrastructure. His background spans distributed systems and data engineering at GE Healthcare, JPMorgan Chase, and Walmart, with an MS from the University of Connecticut.
