Intimacy During Menopause: Natural Ways to Support Your Changing Body

Menopause affects so much more than hot flashes, sleep, weight and brain fog. Changes in intimacy, pleasure and how we care for our bodies deserve a place in the conversation too. In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, I’m joined by Heather Heemstra, founder and formulator of Rockstar Blends and a Certified Menopause Coach. After surviving colon cancer at 37, Heather became interested in plant botanicals and the body’s endocannabinoid system. Her own journey eventually led her to develop Rockstar Woman, a botanical intimate care product created for women navigating perimenopause and menopause. Heather and I talk openly about intimacy during menopause, the changes women can face as hormones shift, and why caring for this part of ourselves belongs in the larger conversation about self-love. We also explore Heather’s interest in plant based approaches and her belief that women deserve to know there are different options available to support themselves through this phase of life. Three takeaways from this episode: Why intimacy and pleasure deserve more attention in conversations about menopause and women’s health. How Heather’s cancer journey led her to explore botanicals and develop an alternative intimate care option. Why self-love includes listening to your changing body, caring for all parts of yourself and exploring the options that feel right for you. This conversation is a reminder that taking care of ourselves during menopause means taking care of all of ourselves, including the parts we haven’t always felt comfortable talking about.   Connect with Heather: RockstarBlends.com use code: MenoQueen to get our podcast discount on your order. How to Stop Saying Yes to Everyone Else and Start Choosing Yourself in Midlife

How many times have you said yes when everything inside you wanted to say no? Yes because you felt guilty. Yes because someone expected it. Yes because you’ve always been the person everyone can count on. In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, I’m joined by author and speaker Paula Matthias for a conversation about boundaries, self-advocacy, and becoming more intentional about what deserves our time and energy in midlife. Paula shares the experience that changed the way she thought about using her voice. After receiving a promotion, she walked into a boardroom and realized she was the only woman there. Instead of owning her place at the table, she made herself small and barely spoke. That moment eventually led her to examine the choices she was making in other areas of her life and to develop The Yes Test Method. The method asks three questions before automatically saying yes: Is it yours? Is it essential? Is it sustainable? We talk about what happens when women spend years putting everyone else first, how overcommitting can lead to resentment, and why midlife can be an important time to start asking yourself what you actually want. Paula also shares a powerful example of using the Yes Test to decide when to speak up in an uncomfortable situation, and we explore how fear, overthinking, boundaries, stress and self-advocacy can all influence the choices we make. One of my favourite messages from our conversation comes near the end when Paula reminds us that we’re still becoming. Midlife isn’t the end of the story. There is still time to reinvent ourselves, pursue what matters to us, and start making intentional choices that move us toward the life we want. About My Guest Paula Matthias is the author of Speak Up and The Yes Test Method. After more than a decade working in tech, recruiting and other male-dominated professional spaces, Paula began exploring why so many women hold themselves back, struggle to advocate for themselves, or automatically put other people’s priorities ahead of their own. Today, she speaks to women about self-advocacy, boundaries, intentional decision-making and creating their next chapter. She also works in consulting and hosts retreats designed to help women get clearer about what they want and how to move toward it. 💖 Ready to Rise? Bad Poetry for Menopause? How Writing Can Help You Process Stress, Anxiety & Change

What if one of the tools that could help you navigate the emotional side of menopause was as simple as a pencil, a piece of paper and permission to write something bad? In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, I’m joined by therapist and author Margaret Bryden for a fascinating conversation about what she calls Bad Poetry and how writing can become an accessible form of self-expression and self-compassion. We explore how poetry can help us slow down when our thoughts feel overwhelming, become more aware of what we’re feeling, silence the judgemental inner critic, and create space for the emotions that can surface during menopause. Margaret also explains why writing doesn’t have to be polished, profound or even traditionally poetic to be valuable. And perhaps my favourite part of the conversation is where writing and our stories meet: when we begin making meaning from our experiences, we can start taking greater ownership of the story we tell ourselves and how we choose to move forward. Margaret even gives us a wonderfully simple place to begin: five minutes and one question, “What am I carrying today?”   About My Guest: Margaret Bryden is a therapist, mom and author of How I Understand It: A Bad Poet’s Guide to Mental Health and Resilience. Through her work as a therapist, Margaret began using poetry to help people increase self-awareness, work through difficult emotions and find language for experiences that can sometimes be hard to express. Her approach, which she calls Bad Poetry, is about quieting the inner critic, getting curious about what’s true for you, and giving yourself the freedom to write without judgement. Her guest form also describes Bad Poetry as an act of self-compassion. Three things we explore in this episode Why “bad poetry” can quiet your inner critic. Margaret explains why removing the pressure to write something “good” creates space to express what is actually true for you. How writing can help during menopause. We talk about anxiety, overwhelm and the emotional changes that can accompany this transition, and how slowing down and putting thoughts on paper can help you see what you’re carrying. How writing your story can help you move forward. Near the end of the conversation, Margaret introduces the idea of narrative authority, taking ownership of the meaning you give your experiences. This ties beautifully into your whole “write your own story” philosophy. Why Difficult Conversations Matter Even More in Midlife

The conversation you’re avoiding may be the one that changes everything. How many times have we hoped things would get better on their own? We hope someone will notice. We hope they’ll change. We hope that if we wait long enough, things will somehow work themselves out. But sometimes the greatest act of self-love isn’t waiting. It’s finding the courage to tell yourself the truth, speak up, and have the conversation that could change the direction of your life. That’s what we’re talking about today.   In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, The Menopause Queen, Lisa R. Triggs, sits down with Marcelle LeBlanc for an honest conversation about communication, relationships, and why the conversations we avoid can sometimes be the ones we need most. Midlife can bring greater clarity about who we are, what we want, what we value, and what we’re no longer willing to accept. Marcelle shares how learning to communicate those things clearly can help us address resentment, disappointment, disconnection, and unmet needs before years pass without anything changing. In this episode, you’ll discover: 👑 Why avoiding difficult conversations can create greater distance in relationships 👑 How to get clear about what you actually want before starting the conversation 👑 A practical way to communicate what’s wrong, explain how it’s affecting you, and make a specific request 👑 Why midlife can bring new awareness to relationship patterns, boundaries, and values we may have carried with us for years About Marcelle Marcelle LeBlanc is the founder of The Conversation Architect, where she helps women develop the skills and language to have difficult conversations they’ve been avoiding. Drawing from her own experience rebuilding her life following divorce and 17 years of listening to women share their relationship struggles, Marcelle helps women get honest about what they want, communicate more clearly, and approach important conversations with greater confidence. Why Midlife Is the Time to Choose Your Own Happiness

Women spend years caring for families, building careers, managing relationships, and taking care of everyone around them. Somewhere along the way, their own happiness, creativity, and passions can quietly move further down the list. In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, The Menopause Queen, Lisa R. Triggs, sits down with Kenya E. Aissa, former social worker, wellness entrepreneur, author, founder of Ruby Envy Wellness, and creator of Escape to Create, to talk about what happens when women decide to put themselves back on that list. Kenya shares why creativity, movement, mindfulness, and self-expression can help women reconnect with parts of themselves they may have lost along the way, and why choosing your own happiness and mental wellness is an important part of self-love. In this conversation, you’ll discover: 👑 Why women can struggle to give themselves permission to prioritize their own happiness 👑 How creativity, movement, and mindfulness can help women reconnect with themselves 👑 Why returning to old passions or discovering new ones can be especially meaningful during midlife 👑 How choosing yourself can become an act of self-love rather than something to feel guilty about Sometimes returning to joy starts with one decision: stop waiting for someone else to give you permission. Why Letting Go Feels So Hard During Menopause

What are you still carrying that may no longer be serving you? During menopause and midlife, old hurts can feel louder. Relationships can shift. Emotions can become heightened, and things that were once tolerated may suddenly feel impossible to ignore. In this episode of The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast, The Menopause Queen, Lisa R. Triggs, is talking about what happens when we continue to carry anger, guilt, resentment, old memories, and the need for an apology or resolution we may never receive. Because letting go doesn’t mean what happened didn’t matter. It means deciding how much of your energy you’re willing to continue giving it. In this episode, you’ll discover: 👑 Why old hurts and unresolved emotions can feel amplified during menopause and midlife 👑 How to recognize when holding on is keeping you stuck instead of helping you heal 👑 Practical ways to begin releasing anger, guilt, and negative thoughts through writing, visualization, and shifting your perspective 👑 Why moving forward doesn’t always require an apology, explanation, or resolution from someone else There comes a point when we get to decide what still belongs in our lives, what we’ve learned from, what we’re ready to release, and how we want to move forward from here. Sometimes choosing yourself means finally deciding that you’re ready to let go. 🎙️ Why Letting Go Feels So Hard During Menopause Subscribe to The Menopause Mindshift Self-Love Podcast for real, honest conversations for women in menopause. #Menopause #MenopauseSymptoms #MidlifeWomen #LettingGo #MenopauseMindshift #SelfLove #WomensHealth
