Craig Goslin on 25 Years of the Saginaw Spirit

On this episode of Sidewalk Talks, we celebrate 25 years of Saginaw Spirit hockey with the President & Managing Partner, Craig Goslin! He reflects on the first day to the future: the early “build the plane while flying it” days, the volunteer and billet-family backbone of the organization, and the Spirit’s community-driven identity (including the origin of the name). We revisit the euphoric Memorial Cup win and its lasting impact on reputation, culture, and player recruitment, plus player-development programs like Respect for Women and mental health training, before looking ahead to a talented but young current roster and hopes for the next 25 years. 00:00 Welcome 01:06 Celebrating 25 Years 01:48 Saving the Civic Center 03:30 Downtown Ripple Effects 07:30 First Season Memories 10:02 Volunteers and Spirit 11:23 Advice for Builders 14:15 Memorial Cup Triumph 15:35 Winning Moment Emotions 16:30 City Pride and Hosting 17:13 850 Volunteers Powerhouse 18:19 Aftermath Raising the Bar 19:34 Culture and Player Development 21:30 Respect for Women Program 23:17 25th Anniversary Team Outlook 26:23 Unsung Heroes Behind Scenes 29:40 Next 25 Years Vision 31:23 Closing Thanks and Wrap

Marcus Kapp of Kapp-ture: Bespoke Tailoring, Better Fits & Big Saginaw Energy

In this episode of Sidewalk Talks, Marcus Kapp breaks down what he does: tailoring everyday clothing, creating custom pieces, and working toward his first one-of-one bespoke suit. Marcus shares how he got started at a local big-box store, learned under a master tailor, and fell in love with the craft—especially how great fit boosts confidence. They talk about what separates true tailoring from simply knowing a sewing machine, how fabric weight and proportions matter, and how to build a simple “capsule” wardrobe without overthinking it. Saginaw’s Surprising Link to the American Flag

Saginaw’s Surprising Link to the 50-Star American Flag (and a Handyman Who Puts Family First) In this Sidewalk Talks episode, Phil chats with Ryan Schramm, owner of Schramm's Services, a handyman business that focuses on painting but also tackles plumbing, electrical, and general contracting. Our conversation takes a fascinating turn when Ryan reveals his uncle, Saginaw-native Bob Heft, designed the 50-star U.S. flag as a high school project in 1958. At the time, there were only 48 states, but Bob had a hunch that two more states would be added and in 1959, Alaska and Hawaii became our 49th and 50th states. Bob created the 50-star flag by cutting up a 48-star flag his parents had received as a wedding present, and the design was later selected by President Eisenhower to serve as the United State's 50-star flag.  Also notable considering the date: when Bob signed flags, he only signed them at Ground Zero.  Ryan talks to us about his uncle, shows us memorabilia and more in this can't-miss episode!  00:00 Mic Check Banter 00:53 Meet Ryan Schramm 02:09 From Painting to Handyman 03:46 Family First Business 04:42 Foster Care Roots 05:58 Dad Life Priorities 09:34 Uncle Behind the Flag 10:33 How the Flag Was Chosen 15:16 What the Legacy Means 17:06 Showing the Memorabilia 20:33 Flag Raising Honor 22:02 Find Schramm Services 22:37 Final Thanks and Wrap
