Coventry City Daily Digest: Tuesday 3 November 2026

Tuesday's Sky Blues bulletin. Frank Lampard puts a bit more detail on the injury that kept Frank Onyeka out of the Sunderland squad, and Onyeka is a doubt for Friday night at Everton. Press report, one named origin: Brian Dick at CoventryLive. The same piece has Bobby Thomas talking in terms of days or a few weeks rather than months, Haji Wright working outside as he comes back from a long thigh injury, and Luke Woolfenden, Josh Eccles and Aurele Amenda still unavailable. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto on his first Premier League goal, and on the weeks he spent waiting for a start, in his own words. Press report, same single origin. Frank Lampard on Stephen Mfuni, whose game he calls immaculate and who he thinks will go a long way in the game. Press report, same single origin. A rumour, and labelled as one on air: the Swedish site Fotbollskanalen reckons Coventry are among at least a dozen clubs who have been looking at Abdoulaye Doumbia, a young central midfielder at the Swedish club Hacken. Fotbollskanalen is itself citing another report for the Trabzonspor bid and for a rumoured fee somewhere in the region of five million euros. Nothing from Coventry and nothing from the player's club. Confirmed by the club itself: voting is open for the October player of the month and closes at seven o'clock on Thursday evening; the ticket office at the Building Society Arena is shut to in person visits on Thursday morning, with phones and email running as normal; and tickets are on sale for Coventry City under twenty ones against Queens Park Rangers under twenty ones at the Building Society Arena, one o'clock on Monday the ninth of November. Everton away on Friday night. Coventry City Daily Digest. Every morning at five.

Coventry City Daily Digest: Monday 2 November 2026

Monday the second of November, two thousand and twenty six. THE VIDEO FROM SATURDAY. Coventry City have issued a statement saying the club is aware of footage circulating on social media in connection with an incident during the Premier League fixture against Sunderland, that it does not tolerate offensive behaviour, and that it will liaise with the relevant authorities to determine the appropriate course of action (club official, the club's own statement). West Midlands Police say a thorough investigation has been launched and that a fourteen year old boy has since handed himself in and will be spoken with in due course (the force's own statement, reported by the Press Association). Bradley Lowery's mother Gemma, in a statement through the Bradley Lowery Foundation, asked that her son be remembered with love and not hate, and in a later update asked people not to take matters into their own hands or direct any hate, threats or harm towards the boy or his family (press report, Press Association and Coventry Live). LAMPARD ON DROPPING HIS CAPTAIN. Frank Lampard has called leaving Matt Grimes out of the side a difficult decision, and used the answer to restate what Grimes has done at the club and that he remains captain. Reported by Brian Dick at Coventry Live (press report, one named origin). Dick's own write up also has Grimes coming on for Victor Torp late in the game and applauding the man he was replacing as he did it. CONTEXT. Everton away on Friday night, kick off at eight at the Hill Dickinson Stadium (on Everton's own fixture list and the BBC's), after which the published list has nothing for Coventry until Crystal Palace at home on the twenty first and Leeds away on the twenty eighth. STANDING, NO CHANGE. Nothing further from the club since Saturday on Bobby Thomas's calf or on the niggle Frank Onyeka picked up in training. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Coventry City Daily Digest: Sunday 1 November 2026

Sunday 1 November 2026. Coventry City beat Sunderland three one at the Coventry Building Society Arena, and Matt Grimes was dropped to the bench for the first time this season. THE RESULT (club official, ccfc.co.uk, 31 October, and press report: Brian Dick, Coventry Live). Coventry City three, Sunderland one. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto scored his first Premier League goal just past the quarter hour, after Milan van Ewijk worked the ball into the middle and a Sunderland clearance broke to him on the edge of the area; the club's report has him striking it first time. Taiwo Awoniyi made and scored the second eight minutes before the break. Jack Rudoni added a third just after the restart, off a Sunderland defender; Dick has it as Rudoni's third in four games. Enzo Le Fee pulled one back from the penalty spot just past the hour, after a video check for handball against Ethan Pinnock. Omar Alderete was shown a second yellow card right at the end, leaving Sunderland with ten men. Coventry's third league win of the season. THE TABLE (Sky Sports Premier League table, checked this morning). Coventry City sixteenth: nine games played, three wins, nine points, and out of the bottom three, having gone into the weekend second from bottom. Sunderland bottom. THE TEAM SHEET (club official, ccfc.co.uk, and press report: Brian Dick, Coventry Live, 31 October). Four changes from the side beaten by Fulham. Matt Grimes dropped to the bench alongside Sidiki Cherif and Brandon Thomas-Asante, with Ethan Pinnock taking the captain's armband. Victor Torp and Yann Gboho came in for their first Premier League starts, and Taiwo Awoniyi started for the first time since serving his suspension. Dick notes that Grimes had started every league game this season and every match of last season. Grimes came on for Torp with about seven minutes left. LAMPARD ON WHY (press report, one named origin: Brian Dick, Coventry Live, 31 October, Lampard speaking after the game). Two things, he said: his own opinion of who to select and how to use the squad, with freshness sometimes a good thing; and the fact that some of his players have not played in the Premier League, are desperate to, and are learning as they go at the highest level, while some new arrivals need to adapt. After last week he felt it was the right time. On Victor Torp, who has been training at a level that says put me in the team: a real example, and Lampard said he was very happy for him and thought he played great. On the performance: good energy, good variation, able to play from the back and to be direct, and the game seen out professionally after the penalty. THE ABSENCES (press report, Brian Dick and Andy Turner, Coventry Live, and club official, ccfc.co.uk). Bobby Thomas did not make the matchday squad, the calf problem Turner reported on Thursday keeping him out; Stephen Mfuni started in his place next to Pinnock, with the club's report crediting him with a block in front of a Sunderland volley. Frank Onyeka was also left out of the squad, with Dick reporting a niggle picked up in training and nothing further. NEXT (Sky Sports fixture list). Everton away, Friday 6 November, kick off eight o'clock. Sources named in the episode. Coventry City Daily, every morning at five.

Coventry City Daily Digest: Saturday 31 October 2026

Matchday. Sunderland at the Coventry Building Society Arena, three o'clock, the club's Remembrance fixture. No further word on Bobby Thomas since yesterday, so he remains a doubt. JANUARY (press report, one named origin: Andy Turner, Coventry Live, 30 October, Lampard speaking to the Coventry Telegraph). Asked whether there is scope to strengthen in the New Year window, Frank Lampard said it is his opinion but also the owner's opinion of where he wants to go with things, and that they will look at it closer to the time because there is a lot of football to play until January. The recruitment team will always be ready, he said, but he is not sitting in that room now, because he wants to work with the players he has got. More pointedly, he said he is not making big judgements on players who may be finding it hard to step up: a squad that is adapting needs leeway, time and work on the training ground, so it is smart to sit tight. If something becomes clear in a moment, they would look at it, but at this point they are not there. Turner notes Matt Grimes in January 2025 and Frank Onyeka a year later as the last two. SQUAD STATUS (press report, one named origin: Turner, Coventry Live, 30 October). Turner reports that summer signing Loum Tchaouna has been left out of the matchday squad altogether for three consecutive games, while Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, patient through the first six games, has started the last two. Asked how Sakamoto has stepped up, Lampard said he has been happy with him: positive coming on against Newcastle, good against Tottenham, and active and energetic against Fulham on a day Lampard has said the side were more passive than usual. He has just turned thirty and has worked all his career to play at this level, Lampard said, and his professionalism is first class. REMEMBRANCE MATCHDAY (club official, ccfc.co.uk, 30 October). Supporters asked to be in their seats early for the tribute to servicemen and women past and present. Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal collectors in the Fan Village and around the ground, with an online donation link. Fan Village in the Exhibition Hall from 12pm via Gate 27, with the first outing for a new supporters group, Armed Forces Sky Blues. Turnstiles 1.30pm. The club says a limited number of tickets remain, available only to supporters with previous match ticket purchase history. AND HALLOWEEN (press report, Turner, Coventry Live, 30 October). Lampard on buying into it for his children, the outfit he has not seen yet, and why party time waits until he knows the result. Sources named in the episode. Coventry City Daily, every morning at five.

Coventry City Daily Digest: Friday 30 October 2026

Friday the thirtieth of October. Team news on Bobby Thomas, Lampard on a question he does not like, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, two from the club, and then tomorrow. Bobby Thomas, and a diagnosis on the calf. Coventry Live's Andy Turner carried Lampard's pre match press conference yesterday afternoon: a small calf issue, and not as it was feared in the beginning around the lower leg and the Achilles. Whether he plays tomorrow is still open, with another forty eight hours to run. Stephen Mfuni is on standby if he does not make it, and Joel Latibeaudiere is the only other option at the back with Aurele Amenda out until Christmas. From the same briefing: Josh Eccles no closer and not on the grass, Haji Wright out on the grass doing lighter work on a reported thigh strain, Oliver Dovin working towards a return to Leyton Orient. Press report, one named origin. Lampard on the question he does not like. Asked whether he knows his best eleven, he said he does not love that question in the modern day, with new summer arrivals adapting and players here already who mostly have not played in the Premier League. He kept the same side for Fulham because he liked the Tottenham performance, and did not like the Fulham one so much: more passive than in the three games before it. On six goals in eight games he said it is early, that they scored ninety seven last season, and that this level is harder to create in. Press report, one named origin. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto on stepping up, also to Coventry Live. More than a hundred appearances in three seasons, four of the eight games this season and a start in the last two, and his own line that he did a lot in the Championship but has not achieved anything in the Premier League yet. Press report, one named origin. From the club, two. Shay Dunn has joined Nuneaton Town on a one month youth loan. And the programme for tomorrow is out, a special edition for the Remembrance fixture, with details of how to donate to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and a feature on the Coventry City players who served in the First and Second World Wars. Club official. Sunderland tomorrow at the Arena, three o'clock. Play up, Sky Blues.

Coventry City Daily Digest: Thursday 29 October 2026

Thursday the twenty ninth of October. Two things and the weekend. Dan Bentley on being the one who is not playing. Coventry Live's Andy Turner carried the goalkeeper yesterday afternoon, and Bentley, who arrived from Wolves in the summer and calls himself the elder statesman of the group, sets out what his job actually is: keeping Carl Rushworth on his toes, because he was tasked with it when he arrived and does it naturally anyway. Healthy competition, in his words, makes a healthy goalkeeping unit, and he wants Rushworth to do well and to succeed. He also gives a dressing room read on where the season is, from maybe the strongest team in the division and winning the league to the proverbial newcomers, and his line to the players before the Forest game was that they are not here just to visit the Premier League. Press report, one named origin. From the club. Sky Blues in the Community recently had pupils from fourteen primary schools across Coventry and Warwickshire in at the Arena for No Room for Racism workshops, delivered through the Premier League Primary Stars programme and in recognition of Black History Month. Sessions in the stadium's media suite on prejudice, stereotyping and allyship, a question and answer with Ephron Mason-Clark, and a stadium tour. Club official. Then Saturday, Sunderland at the Arena, three o'clock. Not much has moved at our end. Bobby Thomas's lower leg injury is still undisclosed and the club have said nothing about it, Loum Tchaouna was left out of the matchday squad for a third game running, and Yann Gboho remains without a top flight debut. Still nothing further from the club on the Everton trip now the allocation has gone. Play up, Sky Blues.

Coventry City Daily Digest: Wednesday 28 October 2026

Wednesday the twenty eighth of October. Two things this morning, and then Saturday from both ends. LAMPARD ON ELLIS SIMMS (press report, one named origin: Andy Turner at Coventry Live, reporting the manager on Monday). Simms was left out of the Coventry City matchday squad altogether against Fulham, having come off the bench and scored against Newcastle earlier this month. Asked whether the striker was injured, Frank Lampard said no, he just cannot pick everybody, he has to cover at the back, in midfield, on the wings and up front, and that it was unfortunate for Ellis, adding that it will not be every week for Ellis, in fact the opposite. On how the call gets made, Lampard said he watches training every week and tries to decide on that, and that it is the toughest decision of his job, the hardest bit. Turner has Simms on one Premier League start all season, the opening game at Arsenal, and about three quarters of an hour of league football off the bench since. NEW BEER AND POURING PARTNER (club official). Coventry City announced yesterday morning a new multi year partnership with Molson Coors, the brewer behind Carling, who become the club's Official Beer and Pouring Partner. In the club's own words the deal brings a range of Molson Coors beer brands to the Coventry Building Society Arena, led by Carling, with Carling branding across selected concourse bars and the screens inside the ground, matchday advertising, a presence on the club's own digital channels, and Carling activations in the Arena's indoor fan zone across the season. The club have it extending to the Arena's wider events programme as well, not just matchdays. Nicola Ibbetson, the club's Chief Business Officer, says the partnership will help the club keep improving the experience for fans and hospitality guests across the Arena. SATURDAY, AND THE SUNDERLAND TEAM NEWS (press report, same named origin, relaying Régis Le Bris after Sunday's goalless draw with Leeds United). Sunderland at the Arena on Saturday afternoon, three o'clock. Dan Ballard, who headed Sunderland past City in the play offs in May of twenty twenty five, misses the game with a thigh strain he has carried since the start of this month and is not expected back until late November. Le Bris called it a shame and said Ballard had been in a good place. Thomas Meunier, out since a hamstring injury against Brighton a fortnight ago, is one Le Bris is hopeful about, in his words probably available coming off the bench for tonight's cup tie with Brentford. Turner's reading is that it could pave the way for a start at the Arena. Centre forward Wilson Isidor is a late call, with Le Bris saying they are just on the edge with him. Romaine Mundle is out with a knee injury until the end of the year. OUT ON LOAN (press report, same origin, as of Monday). Norman Bassette was joint top scorer in the Belgian top flight with Nicolo Tresoldi of Club Brugge, on seven goals in nine appearances for Westerlo, five of them in his last four games. Liam Kitching has started all eight Championship games for Sheffield United, the full ninety in each. STANDING. Nothing further on Bobby Thomas. Nothing more on the Everton away trip now the allocation has sold out. Play up, Sky Blues!
