    How Vivek Ramaswamy REALLY Made His Money

    Vivek Ramaswamy ran an ad attacking Amy Acton with her own estranged mother, and he’s now trailing by three to four points in a state the GOP should own. Luke breaks down what the Ohio governor’s race says about Ramaswamy, about Trump, and about a Republican Party that has lost the ability to police itself. Start with the man. In Luke’s telling, Ramaswamy made his fortune by dressing up a drug he knew wasn’t real, teasing positive early results to the press, and selling before the full studies came out. Scam artist off the break. Then the ad: Acton’s stepfather was charged with sexually abusing her, fled the state to avoid prosecution, and her mother stood by him until he died. Acton has had no contact with her since she was twelve, and the available court records back her account. Ramaswamy put that mother on camera to call her daughter a liar, then doubled and tripled down when asked about it. JD Vance did the same. Trump called the ad “very powerful” on Truth Social and said he wouldn’t trust anyone accused of something like this with office, which prompts Luke to ask about Dana White’s event on the White House lawn. Luke resists the Willie Horton comparison for one reason: Willie Horton worked. This isn’t working. CNN reported that Trump was upset the pushback was bipartisan, and conservative outlets have spent weeks writing about parents being cut off by their adult children. Luke thinks women in Ohio are going to see a group of men siding with a mother who chose her daughter’s rapist, and he can’t wait for the exit polls. The deeper argument is about party function. A healthy party keeps candidates like this out. Luke runs through the 2026 slate, from newly competitive seats in Mississippi to Ken Paxton, and cites political science on why the collapse of party self-policing is evidence of democratic system breakdown. He explains the bind that leaves the left in, locked into vote blue no matter who while the center and the progressive wing fight over who gets to have ideas. And he closes on the miscalculation: Trump, Vance, and Ramaswamy still think the 2024 vibe shift licensed maximum cruelty, and they have no other gear.     Abdul El-Sayed WHOOPED Mike Rogers in Michigan Debate

    By Luke Thomas: Abdul El-Sayed took Mike Rogers apart in the Michigan Senate debate, and Luke breaks down exactly how it happened. Rogers had one play all night: Muslim, Muslim, Muslim. Associations, names, anything to Islamify his opponent for the voters he’s courting. Luke explains why that strategy told you more about Rogers than about El-Sayed. The more revealing pattern was what Rogers did on tariffs and every other issue where the GOP is on the back foot. He wasn’t doubling down. He was softening, sounding neutral, trying to remind voters of the Mitt Romney era Republican Party before MAGA. Luke reads that as national Republicans realizing MAGA went too far and that they’re about to pay for it. Then Rogers brought up Hamas and babies in ovens, lifting straight from the New York Times “Screams Without Words” article. Luke explains why that reporting fell apart, and why a candidate named Abdul can’t push back on it without sounding like something he isn’t. Add the stammering, the awkward mid-sentence pauses, and the “AI chatbot” accusation, which Luke says is what debaters do when they know they’re losing. In the spin room, El-Sayed was asked why Rogers has to answer for Trump but he doesn’t have to answer for Hasan Piker. His reply was perfect. Luke then takes on the CNN report that El-Sayed told Piker his rhetoric is costing votes, the concern mongering that follows every insurgent leftist, and why Piker’s comment about Iran and nuclear weapons is closer to mainstream academic thinking than the corporate media will admit. He reads a passage from a book on the Israel lobby that makes the case.     Luke Thomas: In August of 2025, I spoke to Zeke Hernandez, the Max and Bernice Garchik Family Presidential Professor at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. That conversation largely centered on Hernandez’s 2024 book, ‘The Truth About Immigration’, and how the scholarship around immigration was at odds with Pres. Trump’s early mass deportation efforts. Fourteen months later, the situation has only grown more dire. The U.S. isn’t merely deporting mostly those with no criminal records, but taking active steps to reduce immigration overall. ICE agents have gunned down American citizens on camera, toddlers are forced to defend themselves alone in immigration court and families across the country are being ripped apart. A question I keep coming back to is: what is the cumulative effect of these immigration efforts on local business, communities as well as the nation more broadly? As Hernandez notes, much of what will be done to the U.S. can’t be measured yet, but early signs from his own recent research point to durable and lasting decline where deportations have taken place.
