    In which Bethanie, Lindsey, and Samantha discuss Chapter 19 of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Chapter 19 Summary: Goodbyes Bella fakes a breakup with Edward to protect her father, quickly packing and rushing out of the house. Edward, Emmett, and Alice accompany her as they escape toward the Cullen house while James, the tracker vampire, closes in. Laurent leaves for Alaska, impressed but unwilling to oppose James. The Cullens split up to mislead James and Victoria, and Bella, reassured by Jasper, heads to Phoenix with Alice and Jasper for safety.     In which Samantha and Bethanie discuss chapter 22 of Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer.  Chapter 22 Summary: “The Hunt” Three visiting vampires arrive during the Cullens’ baseball game, and while Carlisle initially keeps the peace, everything changes when James catches Bella’s scent and becomes determined to hunt her. Edward and the Cullens quickly realize Bella is in danger and rush her away from the clearing. Alice foresees that James will not give up unless Bella becomes a vampire, though Edward refuses to consider it. To protect Charlie and mislead James, Bella decides to pretend she is running away to Phoenix while Alice and Jasper guard her. Bella handles the encounter, deflecting Billy’s warnings about the Cullens. Later, Jessica calls about the dance, and Bella mentions she has a date with Edward, clarifying to Charlie that it’s Edward, not Emmett. Edward arrives, impresses Charlie, and he and Bella drive to a meadow. Edward carries Bella again, and they share a kiss, leaving them both flustered. They reach a giant baseball field in the Olympic Mountains, where the Cullens greet them. Bella bonds with Esme, who shares her own past and expresses hope for Bella and Edward. Chapter 20Summary: “Carlisle” In Carlisle’s office, Edward shows Bella paintings and explains Carlisle’s past, including his transformation, struggle with vampirism, and brief time with the Volturi. Edward also reveals his own violent past and the guilt he carries from killing humans while acting as a vigilante. Bella is not disturbed by this, which surprises Edward. They then go to Edward’s room, where Alice and Jasper invite them to play baseball before an approaching storm, as Jasper enjoys the positive emotions between Edward and Bella. Edward rebelled briefly, hunting only criminals, but returned to Carlisle and Esme. He shows Bella his room with forest views, music, and a large sofa. They playfully embrace, and Alice and Jasper invite them to a family baseball game that involves lightning.     In which Samantha and Bethanie discuss chapters 18 & 19 of Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer. Chapter 18 Summary: “Mind Over Matter” Bella and Edward grow closer as Edward shares stories about his past, the Cullen family, and other vampires. Back at Bella’s house, Edward admits he has been watching Bella sleep, while the two confess their love and discuss the challenges of their relationship. In Chapter 19, Edward asks Bella to meet his family, though Rosalie remains upset about Bella risking her humanity. Bella visits the Cullens’ home, where most of the family warmly welcomes her and Alice foresees possible futures for Bella as a vampire. During the visit, Edward also explains Carlisle’s history and warns Bella about unfamiliar vampires arriving nearby. Chapter 19 Summary: “Home” Edward decides to introduce Bella to his family, though Rosalie strongly opposes Bella giving up her human future. Despite Rosalie’s concerns, the rest of the Cullens are excited to meet Bella, and Alice still sees possible futures where Bella becomes a vampire.
