Outside the Bell Curve

Heather Hiccups

For the forever curious and the ones chasing wild ideas. Outside the Bell Curve is a podcast for those who just can’t seem to color inside the lines. I’m Heather, and each week I chat with friends, creatives, and fascinating humans I meet on the road — folks with cool jobs, wild stories, and a habit of choosing the unexpected. From bold pivots to one-way tickets, from a small town in Texas to a residency at the Kennedy Center, or a drive from the UK to Mongolia, I’m full of questions for the people who’ve lived it. Let’s explore what it looks like to live outside the bell curve. https://www.instagram.com/outsidethebellcurvepod/

🎃 Halloween Throwback: Ghost Hunting 101 with Spirit Chasers UK (Apparitions, EMF & Evidence)

👻 FROM THE VAULT: Spooky season is here, so we’re bringing back one of my favourite conversations ever. If you missed it the first time, grab a blanket and maybe leave a light on. A brand-new episode drops Oct 21. In the meantime, the spirits would like a word. Sometimes ghosts just need a moment to warm up to you... Ghost hunting that’s real, respectful, and for a good cause. For our Halloween special, I speak with David Laird and Marie of Spirit Chasers UK, a non-profit team running accessible, affordable paranormal investigations across the UK—supporting historic venues and charities along the way. We dig into: how evidence strengthens as spirits learn to trust you, why TV gets ghost hunting wrong, what tools (EMF/REM-Pods/EVP) actually help, and the wildest nights—from Wymering Manor to the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum, the Hovercraft Museum, and an unforgettable castle cottage that sent them packing. Plus: how they keep first-timers calm, deal with skeptics, and why the best energy is laughter and joy. Listen if you’re curious, cautious, or already obsessed. Spirits aren’t just for Halloween—they’re year-round. Highlights: ➤Building trust with locations (singing child, table drags) ➤Methods that work vs. false positives ➤Ethics, safety, and respecting history ➤Non-profit approach & keeping hunts affordable Questions to think about: ➤ Are ghost hunts real or staged? ➤ What tools do ghost hunters use (EMF meters, REM Pods, EVP recorders)? ➤ How do spirits build trust with investigators? ➤ What happens during a paranormal investigation? ➤ What is it like to experience a full-body apparition? ➤ What’s the difference between ghost hunting on TV and in real life? ➤ Can laughter and positive energy attract spirits? ➤ How do Spirit Chasers UK make ghost hunting affordable for everyone? ➤ How can you join a real paranormal investigation in the UK? 🎧 Spirit Chasers UK: spiritchasersparanormal.uk Follow the Show: Outside the Bell Curve on Substack Follow Heather: https://www.instagram.com/heather_hiccups/ Chapters 0:00 - Intro 2:15 - David's Journey into Paranormal Investigation 10:30 - Memorable Paranormal Experiences 18:45 - Running a Non-Profit Paranormal Group 25:00 - Advice for Aspiring Paranormal Investigators 32:10 - The Impact of Media on Paranormal Interest 40:00 - Closing Thoughts and Future Plans

Not Cute to Panic: The Whimsical Art of Going Full-Time Comedian | Zubi Ahmed

Zubi Ahmed was told by her teachers not to bother with a creative career because "nobody's gonna watch you." Now she's performing stand-up for hundreds of people in New York City, and she recently turned the loss of her day job into an opportunity to go all in on comedy. Queen Zubi (I'm dubbing her this now) is a Queens-born comedian, filmmaker and producer who co-hosts the NYC comedy shows Kutti Gang and House Party. We talk about growing up Bengali in Ozone Park, learning comedy from sitcoms with her immigrant parents, falling into stand-up by accident, and why she refuses to panic, even about an "iffy" bank account. Long story short...book the room first, then figure out the rest. For the forever curious and the ones chasing wild ideas. Do the scary thing. Lamar Dawson — aka the Dirty King of Pop — has built a career out of reinventing himself more than once.
