In this episode of the Throttle Culture Podcast, I tell the story of my VW Jetta TDI, how Dieselgate unfolded, and why the red flags felt eerily similar to a relationship built on lies. In 2015, Volkswagen admitted to installing defeat devices in millions of diesel vehicles worldwide, manipulating emissions tests while marketing these cars as clean, efficient, and environmentally responsible. Over 11 million vehicles globally were affected, leading to more than $30 billion in fines, settlements, and buybacks. In this episode, I explain what VW actually offered owners, why the emissions modification made these cars slower and less enjoyable to drive, and how trust between brand and driver was permanently damaged.
