The Authenticity Revolution: Where Truth is the Rebellion

Michele Martin

The Authenticity Revolution is not your “just be yourself” podcast. It’s a reclamation. This is a podcast for the woman who keeps thinking: There has to be more than this. Maybe you know what you want next. Maybe you have no idea. You just know something about the way you've been living no longer fits. Here, we'll talk about what happens in that uncomfortable space between knowing something needs to change and actually trusting yourself enough to change it. The fear. The second-guessing. The stories we tell ourselves. The roles we've outgrown. Other people's expectations. The endless search for the "right" answer. And most importantly, what happens when you stop assuming someone else knows your life better than you do. I won't tell you what your answer is. But I might ask you to question some of the things you've been calling true. And perhaps, underneath all that noise, you'll begin to hear what you already know.

The Cave You Keep Going Back To

A while back I heard Plato’s Allegory of the Cave mentioned in passing on a podcast, and it stopped me in my tracks. It’s a 2,400-year-old story about people chained in a cave, mistaking shadows on a wall for reality. And it describes exactly what so many of us do with our lives. In this episode, I walk through the story, including the part most people forget: what happens when the one who got out goes back to tell the others. Then we look at the modern version of the cave. The job that drains you but looks great on paper. The role of being the one who holds it all together. The beliefs you absorbed before you ever got to choose them. We talk about: Why the cave isn’t always obviously terrible, and why that’s exactly what keeps us there Why seeing the truth hurts before it frees you Why we go back to old patterns even after we’ve seen them clearly (hint: it’s not because they’re good, it’s because they’re known) The in-between: that disorienting stretch after the shadows stop making sense, and before your eyes adjust to the lightThis one comes with a lot of compassion. We are all capable of mistaking shadows for reality. Me included. A question to sit with: What’s one shadow on your wall that you’ve been calling reality? If you’re in the in-between right now, we can talk. Schedule a 30-minute conversation here: https://tidycal.com/3ln2gn1/lets-talk  No convincing required. Know a woman who’s in the middle of it? What If You Don't Need Another Person's Advice?

Have you ever asked so many people what they think that you eventually couldn't tell what you thought anymore? There's nothing wrong with asking for advice. Other people can offer information, experience and perspectives we may not have considered. But there's a difference between using someone else's perspective as information and treating it as authority. In this episode, I'm talking about what happens when we keep looking outside ourselves for the answer—especially when what we're really looking for might be permission, reassurance or certainty. Because sometimes we were actually clearer before we asked everyone else. We'll talk about the difference between gathering useful information and outsourcing your decisions, why other people's advice is always filtered through their experiences and fears, and what self-trust looks like when no one can guarantee how your choice will turn out. And I'll leave you with a question to ask the next time you're about to say, “What do you think I should do?” What do I think I should do? Hear your own answer before you add another voice to the room. Want to talk?If something in your life is asking to change and you're having trouble hearing your own voice underneath everyone else's, let's have a conversation. You don't need to know whether you want coaching. Tell me what's happening, where you feel stuck and what keeps pulling at you. We'll see what we notice. → Schedule a 30-minute Let's Talk conversation
