    Using AI to Transcribe and Summarize Marine Radio Traffic

    I experiment with RTL-SDR (https://lnkd.in/eaBeqP5q) and I've been building things with AI. This weekend I connected the two. An antenna and a cheap dongle pull VHF Marine Channel 16 out of the air, rtl_fm demodulates the stream, Whisper transcribes it locally, and the output gets classified and summarized into a daily digest of what happened on the water. Channel 16 is the international maritime distress and calling frequency. What is interesting is how little of the pipeline is specific to marine radio. There's a lot of operational knowledge moving over analog radio every day that never becomes data. Companies like SYNQ Technology are approaching this from the other direction (https://lnkd.in/eGZybkam), building software onto the #radios #retail teams already carry rather than replacing them. Different problem, same underlying observation: voice radio isn't going away, and it's more useful when something is listening.
