Ep 64 - God Didn't Call Us to Be Comfortable

Send us Fan Mail What happens when God calls you to something that makes you uncomfortable? Well, apparently, you pack up your family, move across the country, and figure it out along the way! 😂 This week on Messy But Motivated, Mike and I are getting REAL about life lately. Our daughter is struggling with missing her friends after our move to Florida, I'm trying to build a community in a neighborhood full of strangers, and we had a pretty scary experience on one of our walks that turned into a conversation about personal safety. But we're also talking about something much bigger: the power of prayer and learning to trust the Holy Spirit. After attending a powerful worship night and experiencing an emotional Bible study at the correctional center, I've been reminded that ministry isn't always about having the perfect words. Sometimes it's about showing up, listening, praying, and allowing God to work through you. We're also discussing why it's perfectly okay to say "I don't know" when someone asks you a question about the Bible. Even seminary students don't have all the answers, y'all! PLUS, I'm sharing some exciting updates about my new 14-day Bible study for messy women (because aren't we all a little messy?) and a Christian children's book series I've been working on! And of course, Mike has a hilarious confession about soccer picture day. 😂 In this episode: Adjusting to life in Florida and helping our kids through changeWhy God created us for community, not isolationThe power of prayer and relying on the Holy SpiritTwo young children battling cancer who could use our prayers and supportA frightening neighborhood walk and personal safety tips from Mike, a retired police officerWhy saying "I don't know" can actually be a sign of wisdomWhat prison ministry is teaching me about grief, compassion, and listeningMy upcoming Bible studies and Christian children's booksFollowing God's calling even when it's uncomfortable❤️ LINKS & RESOURCES MENTIONED 📖 LOGOS Bible Software:  http://logos.com/messybutmotivated This is one of our favorite tools for Bible study and seminary! Ep 63 - Flying Cars, Zach Bryan & Mediums: What Does the Bible REALLY Say?

Send us Fan Mail Flying cars?! Listen, I can barely drive the car I have on the GROUND. Why are we putting people in the sky?! 😂 Welcome back to another episode of Messy But Motivated! Mike and I are back, and this week we're going from laughing about flying cars to some pretty serious conversations about faith, Scripture, and the things Christians need to stop ignoring. And yes, Mike has some thoughts about Zach Bryan. 👀 🚗 FLYING CARS ARE HERE?! Mike thinks they're incredible. Me? Absolutely not. Between flying cars, spilled coffee, and Mike's obsession with Facebook Marketplace, we're already off to a messy start. 🎤 ZACH BRYAN & THE "FREE PALESTINE" SHIRT We've always loved Zach Bryan's music, but after he wore a "Free Palestine" shirt at a concert, Mike wasn't exactly thrilled. We discuss our different reactions, why Mike feels the way he does, and whether we can separate an artist's music from their personal views. 🔮 MEDIUMS, PSYCHICS & WHAT GOD ACTUALLY SAYS This one is personal for me. Before growing in my relationship with Jesus, I had crystals, consulted mediums, and participated in things I now understand differently because of Scripture. We're talking about why Christians should take God's warnings seriously, what happened when King Saul consulted a medium, and why just because something is popular doesn't mean it's biblical. And yes, I even tell the story about the time a medium supposedly communicated with my BUNNY. You can't make this stuff up. 😂 📖 STOP TAKING SCRIPTURE OUT OF CONTEXT! "God won't give you more than you can handle." "Do not judge." We've all heard these sayings, but is that actually what the Bible teaches? Mike and I break down commonly misunderstood Bible passages and even play a little game of Bible verse or Hallmark card? Let's see how well Mike really knows his Scripture! ❤️ FAITH, SALVATION & ETERNITY We also have an honest conversation about baptism, salvation, heaven, and what it means to truly have a relationship with Jesus. Plus, I share about volunteering at a correctional facility to teach Bible study, what God has been teaching me, and some of the convictions I've experienced along the way. We don't pretend to have every answer. We're learning, growing, and studying God's Word right alongside you. Because being a Christian isn't about knowing all the answers. It's about knowing the One who does. 🙏 SUPPORT MOTIVATED MINISTRIES We have some exciting things happening behind the scenes! Ep 62 - Can Women Preach?

Send us Fan Mail This week on Messy But Motivated, Mike and I are getting into some topics that definitely got me fired up! Remember Jon & Kate Plus 8? I was a HUGE fan. I watched that family for years and thought I knew what was going on. Well, after hearing Collin Gosselin's story and learning about the allegations of what was happening behind closed doors, I was absolutely heartbroken. We talk about his book, his experiences growing up in the spotlight, and how reality TV doesn't always show us the reality. Then we get into a topic that really gets my blood boiling... CAN WOMEN PREACH THE WORD OF GOD?! If you've followed me for any amount of time, you know I've had plenty of people tell me that because I'm a woman, I shouldn't be preaching or teaching God's Word. And let me tell you, I have A LOT to say about that! We dive into Scripture, discuss what the Bible actually says, and talk about why I refuse to let other people's opinions stop me from sharing Jesus. And of course, it wouldn't be Messy But Motivated without a few random conversations along the way! 🦆 A LITTLE FAMILY SHOUTOUT! Ep 61 - You Believe in Jesus… But Are You Actually Following Him?

Send us Fan Mail You Believe in Jesus… But Are You Actually Following Him? There is a BIG difference between believing Jesus existed and actually surrendering your life to Him. And this week, Mike and I are having a conversation that I think a lot of Christians need to hear. ❤️ Because here’s the thing… you can go to church every Sunday, own five Bibles, listen to Christian podcasts, and STILL not be living a life that follows Jesus. So what does it actually mean to deny yourself, pick up your cross daily, and follow Him? In this episode, we’re talking about: ✝️ Believing vs. following: Why acknowledging Jesus isn’t the same as surrendering your life to Him. 📖 Denying your flesh: What it really looks like to choose God’s will over your own desires, habits, and comforts. ❤️ Forgiveness and consequences: Looking at King David’s story and how our decisions can affect our children and families for generations. 🏡 Raising children who know Jesus: Why taking your kids to church isn’t enough if they’re not seeing you live out your faith at home. 💊 Faith, healing, and medication: Can you trust God and still take medication? We’re sharing our personal perspectives and wrestling with some difficult questions. 👽 Aliens, the unknown, and God’s creation: Yes, we went there! What should Christians do when the world is talking about things we don’t fully understand? 🌱 The fruit of the Spirit: If you went an entire week without mentioning Jesus, would people still know you’re a Christian by the way you live? We also get personal about our own transformation, the things we’ve had to surrender, and how God continues to work on both of us. Here’s what I want you to remember: Following Jesus isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being willing to let Him change you. We’re all a work in progress, and thankfully, God isn’t finished with us yet. Because life is messy, but we can still be motivated to live for Him. ❤️ 📖 JOIN OUR FREE MONDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDIES! 🕡 6:30 PM Eastern — DEFEND YOUR FAITH Join Mike as we dive into Scripture and learn how to confidently explain and defend what we believe. 🕗 8:00 PM Eastern — REAL LIFE, REAL FAITH Join Melinda as we study God’s Word and navigate real-life struggles, including stress, anxiety, and depression. EP 60 - What If God Said, “Not Yet”?

Send us Fan Mail EPISODE 60: What If God Said, “Not Yet”? 😳 What happens when an execution doesn’t go as planned? And could there be a bigger purpose behind someone surviving something they weren’t expected to survive? This week on Messy But Motivated,  Mike and I are talking about the woman who survived an execution attempt and it leads us into a conversation about God’s sovereignty, the death penalty, justice, mercy, and what WE actually think about execution. And somehow… it gets funny. 😂 But because this is Messy But Motivated, we obviously don’t stay on one subject. We also talk about Mike’s love for Facebook Marketplace because apparently this man cannot resist a deal. 😂 We get into spiritual warfare, why we believe it is very real, and how some of the conversations Shawn Ryan has been having are opening people’s eyes to the spiritual side of what’s happening around us. And then there’s me. I’m messy. Like… actually messy. 😂 I am completely Type B, I have accepted it, and at this point I’m not even pretending I’m going to become the perfectly organized woman with labeled containers in every cabinet. That’s kind of the whole point of this podcast anyway. Life is messy. Faith can get messy. Marriage is messy. Following Jesus doesn’t suddenly make you perfect. We’re just Messy But Motivated. Come hang out with us for faith, laughs, uncomfortable conversations, spiritual warfare, Facebook Marketplace finds, and whatever rabbit trail ❤️ Mike and I end up going down this week. ❤️ WANT TO SUPPORT MESSY BUT MOTIVATED? Ep 59 - Islamaphobia Is NOT a Thing

Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Messy But Motivated, Mike and I have an important conversation about Islam, Christianity, and why Christians need to know what they believe and why they believe it. We talk about the importance of going back to Scripture, being willing to have difficult conversations, and learning how to stand firm in our faith while still loving the people around us. We also talk about the choices we’re making right now—in our homes, our families, our faith, and the way we’re raising the next generation. The future isn’t something we simply wait for. What we do today matters. This episode isn’t about hating or fearing people who believe differently than we do. It’s about taking our own faith seriously, knowing the Bible for ourselves, and being willing to live out what we say we believe. Grab your coffee and join us. It’s messy, it’s honest, and as always—we’re staying motivated. 🤍 ☕ Want to support Messy But Motivated? Ep 57 - Discipling our Children, Mental Health Meds & Getting in the Word

Send us Fan Mail This week on Messy, But Motivated, I’m joined by my sister, Londi! ❤️ We’re talking about the things that really matter — discipling our children, making time to get in God’s Word every single day, and what it looks like to actually live out our faith in the middle of busy, messy, everyday life. But because we’re sisters… there are plenty of laughs along the way. 😂 We believe following Jesus is serious, but that doesn’t mean we have to take ourselves too seriously. We’re having the real conversations about raising kids who know and love the Lord, building spiritual habits in our own lives, and remembering that we don’t have to have it all together to pursue God faithfully. If you’re a parent, a sister, a believer, or honestly just someone trying to figure out how to keep showing up for God in the middle of the mess — this episode is for you. Grab your coffee, press play, and come hang out with us. 🤍 Messy life. Real faith. Lots of laughs. Still motivated to become who God called us to be.
