    BYU Hasn't Done This Once All Season

    David opened this one with a question and it hung over the whole episode. Is BYU at Notre Dame shaping up to be the most important game this program has played since the national championship? Our offense came out and looked as sharp and clean as we have ever seen it. LJ Martin went for 173 yards in the first half. Our backs were averaging 3.6 yards before anybody on their defense even touched them. That offensive line is opening holes so big that David is pretty sure he could still get through one. We adjusted, we rattled their quarterback, we were fine. And then the fourth quarter happened. Penalties, sloppy play, two touchdowns we had no business giving up. We were watching at grandma and grandpa's house, and grandma said it felt like we had just lost the game. So here is what we keep coming back to. Three games in, BYU still has not put a complete game together. One half is dominant and the other one drifts, and it was true last season too. Against Colorado State that costs you nothing. Against Notre Dame it costs you everything. We grade all three phases and we are not close to agreeing on the defense. One of us has it at an A minus. Two of us are a lot lower than that, and we get into exactly why. Then King of the Y, five players, and one of them might be the most underrated guy on this defense right now. The Larsen Line results are in, and we have something embarrassing to admit. For the second week in a row, the closest score prediction in this room did not belong to any of us. It belonged to Cass, our technical operator, at 37 to 16. She came out, took the belt, and told us her secret. Then she told us a little more than she meant to.     BYU is 2 and 0, ranked 11th, the highest ranked team in the Big 12, and Saturday is the first road game of the season. So we sat down and put everything on the record. How many points BYU hangs in Fort Collins. Who has the biggest game. And whether the whole "trap game" thing everybody is running this week actually holds up. They are 2 and 0 for the first time since 2011, they are averaging 46.5 points a game under Jim Mora, and four days ago they put 58 on Southern Utah. Hauss Hejny has nine touchdowns in two games. Mel Brown went for 171 yards on nine carries. And BYU has not played this program since 2010, which means Canvas Stadium has had this Saturday circled all year. We get into whether this defense travels the way it played at home. Whether our offensive line controls the line of scrimmage. And whether Bear Bachmeier finally has the game through the air this team has been waiting on. Every one of us lands on a key to the game, and three of us land on almost the same one. Then the Larsen Line, back with three new numbers. Bear's passing yards. Team sacks. And how many points we let Colorado State score.     BYU Beat Arizona by 11. It Wasn't That Close.

    BYU beat Arizona by 11 and it wasn't that close. Second half: 87 yards of offense for Arizona, minus 2 on the ground, zero points. Put the scoop and score back on the board and we are talking about a completely different number. Arizona marched down the field on the opening drive like they had our script. Noah Fifita did not miss a throw in the first half other than the one Cade Uluave took away from him, and he might be the best quarterback in the Big 12 right now. Then Kelly Poppinga made whatever adjustment he made at halftime and Arizona never scored again. So we get into all of it. What actually changed at halftime and whether the guy who changed it deserves player of the game. Why LJ Martin got four carries in the first half and sixteen in the second. Whether that fourth down spot was the right call and what it did to the rest of the night. Tausili Akana living in the backfield in the fourth quarter.     We Barely Beat Arizona Last Year. Not This Time

    We barely beat Arizona last year. Down ten in the fourth, two overtimes, and we got out of Tucson alive. Not this time. They are coming to LES. Saturday, 1:30 on FOX at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Bear played one half. The twos played most of the night. Arizona is a completely different animal. Noah Fifita went 22 of 29 for 262 against Northern Arizona and might be the best quarterback in the Big 12 not named Bear Bachmeier. LJ Martin ran for 162 on the Wildcats last year and Brent Brennan is still bringing it up this week. So we get into all of it.     BYU's 63 to 7 Proved Nothing. He Did.

    BYU beat Utah Tech 63 to 7 and that score told us almost nothing about this team. Legend Glasker did. Three touchdowns in the first half from a true freshman in his first college game. RG3 was tweeting about him by the end of the night. In a game where BYU could only hurt itself, he was the one thing the Cougars actually gained.
