    Preserving the Chippewa One Room Schoolhouse

    Discover the fascinating story of the last remaining one-room schoolhouse in Sandusky County, Ohio, and learn about the ongoing restoration project aimed at preserving this historical site for future generations. Join us as local historians and project leaders share insights into the school's history, current repairs, and plans for its future. The school is the only fully intact one-room school left in Sandusky County out of over 116 historically. The project received $63,000 from Ohio's capital budget to renovate the school's interior and exterior.Restoration plans include repairing windows, updating the brickwork, restoring the cistern, and addingperiod-specific furnishings.A historic map collection from the late 1800s and original classroom maps are being preserved for display.The goal is to create an educational experience for students and the public, including field trips anddemonstrations of historic teaching tools.The project will include restoring the bell steeple and constructing an era-specific outhouse.A collection of historic artifacts like desks, a wooden bicycle wheel, and a pump organ are being preserved.The school was operational until around 1940 and now serves as a community historic site.Community involvement includes donations of furniture and participation in open house events.An upcoming open house is scheduled for July 26th, from 4 to 6 pm, with refreshments and guided tours.Relevant Links https://www.friendsofthechippewaschool.com/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61577409522724#
