For decades, the former abattoir worker terrorized romantic partners through assaults, threats, manipulation, and acts of extreme cruelty. By February 2000, John understood that his life and potentially the lives of his children were in danger. On February 28, he sought an apprehended violence order against Katherine. Before leaving work that day, he told his coworkers that if he did not return the following morning, it would be because Katherine had murdered him. His prediction came true.
