Guest Bios: Stella Samuels (they/them) As Executive Director of Sexual Health Nova Scotia (SHNS) Stella Samuels, they/them, supports 5 sexual health centres across the province, and champions positive sexual health throughout the lifespan for all Nova Scotians through advocacy, education, navigation, and partnerships. SHNS runs The Transformation Closet, which distributes gender-affirming gear, and SUGAR Health which connects people to sexual, gender, and reproductive health services near them. Stella has a passion for social justice, sexual health, and finding innovative ways to be, work, and play together in communities. They have taken a winding career path that includes entrepreneurship, nonprofit work, municipal governance, academia, and book publishing…sometimes in tandem. They are passionate about community-building, vintage, and animal rescue. Kelsey Benoit (she/they) Kelsey Benoit is a queer settler living in Mi’kma’ki who holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Lakehead University. Kelsey currently works as the Project Manager for SUGAR Health and as a social worker with Recovery Supports through Nova Scotia Health. Kelsey is passionate about harm reduction and uses this approach to inform their work. She has spent years working alongside, learning from, and advocating for the rights of people who use substances. She believes strongly in lifelong learning and always strives to exist and work from a decolonial and anti-oppressive lens. Kelsey’s educational and work experience has involved mental health and addictions support, sexual health education in community and in schools, HIV support, community organizing and advocacy, as well as system navigation and case management. When she's not working, Kelsey enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family, snuggling with her cat, watching movies, and playing piano.
