Steven Michael Hall says he died three times after suffering a massive brain bleed—and woke from an induced coma after hearing two words: “WAKE UP.” In this episode of Ignite Mic, Jesse Amos sits down with Steven, director and producer of Freedom Rains Films, to hear his remarkable testimony of survival, faith, healing, and purpose. In November 2023, Steven suffered a severe brain bleed and was rushed into emergency surgery. While unconscious, he says he experienced overwhelming peace and what he believes was the presence of God. Then he heard, “Wake up.” Steven says he immediately regained consciousness even though doctors expected him to remain in an induced coma for days. At a later appointment, he says a doctor revealed that Steven had been resuscitated three times during surgery and should not have been functioning normally after what happened. Steven credits God with healing him and says there is now no evidence of the original brain bleed. But his story is also about purpose. Steven is a filmmaker with Freedom Rains Films, a nonprofit Christian film company creating movies designed to reach youth, young adults, and families with stories about difficult subjects including suicide, bullying, addiction, forgiveness, faith, and redemption. His film Renovations: A Place for Hope was created with limited resources, church support, volunteers, donated locations, and a desire to use filmmaking to open conversations about God. Steven shares one powerful testimony from a grandmother who said her grandson revealed a suicide plan shortly after watching the film—allowing the family to have a conversation before it was too late. Freedom Rains Films is now preparing for its next film, Freedom Rains, with a planned shoot in March 2027 as Steven works to build the team, resources, funding, and partnerships needed to take the ministry to the next level.
