Finding Community After a Burn: Inside the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation

Recovery from a burn injury is about more than physical healing. It’s also about rebuilding confidence, finding connection, and realizing you don’t have to navigate life after a burn alone. In Episode 17 of All About Burns, Corey sits down with Martha B., Michael K., and Erika M. from the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation (AARBF). All three are burn survivors whose relationships with the burn community have come full circle, from receiving support themselves to now helping provide that support for others.  They share what it was like growing up after a burn injury, how Champ Camp helped create confidence, independence, friendships, and belonging, and why meeting other burn survivors can have such a lasting impact.  We also go inside the work of AARBF and discuss its survivor services, peer support, burn-unit outreach, support groups, therapy assistance, scholarships, Champ Camp, young-adult and adult programming, recreation opportunities, burn prevention education, and ways survivors and families can get connected.  Perhaps the most important message of the conversation: support doesn’t have an expiration date. Whether a burn happened weeks ago or decades ago, survivors and their families can still find connection and community.  This is a conversation about recovery, belonging, hope, and what can happen when survivors who were once supported become the people supporting the next person. Every burn has a story. Every story matters. 🎙️ All About Burns — Powered by Healing Home Group
