    TSC Ep35: Getting Animated

Jesse saw the launch trailer for Chaos Reign and lost his mind with enthusiasm over the animated series. Avalyn tries to keep things grounded.  "This is the Inner Sphere—thousands of planets colonized by humankind. Once it was united under the Star League, but for the last three hundred years it has been consumed by savage wars... until a new enemy appeared—mysterious invaders known as the Clans. Powerful and ruthless, they struck like lightning, attacking every sector at once. But they made one big mistake: they attacked my home planet! Now, in the spirit of the Star League, ancient enemies have reunited... and we're gonna take back our galaxy!" TSC Ep33: Dragons, and Vikings, and Bears, Oh My!

Jesse, Avalyn, and Scott talk the next Battle of Luthien! Woo woo Wednesday wepwesent! Too bad the first one was a lot better in the games and the novels than the actual sourcebook. Let's come up with something more practical. Alpha Strike for sure, right? Recreating the tension from the book is not just objective focused, it's character focused. Dracs, tradition versus modernity. Rasalhague, joiners versus deniers. Overlapping and contrasting secondary/sub objectives. Make it Aces' campaign size. Katana Tormark and the Dragon's Fury with Yori Kurita and the Dragon's Claws. The world's most disrespectful Katana summary. Allies, but Katana wants Yori dead. Both allies can get a supply depot, but only one faction gets the points. Similar for the Joiner and the Denier? Capture a supply depot. Hold a location. Advance before your ally! Turret control. Do main objectives prioritize over sub objectives? With Avalyn (professional game designer), Scott (professional writer), and Jesse (professional Jesse) working together we come up with some cool stuff! TSC Ep32: The MechTech's Lament

Jesse, Scott, and Jo are 'MechTechs today! Remember MechWarrior 2? Customizing works in the videogames but not on the table. How do we solve that? Scott's made some killer LAMs in MegaMek, but would never bring them to the table. Does BattleTech have to change to allow for customs? Compounding BV? RAT tables for equipment? Can tonnage, C-bills and BV work together in a way to make that work? Are we just reinventing the MUL? What if you can only change a little. Maybe that's where the different weapon-type slots in the videogames come from. Stick to doing it by tonnage? How do we stop medium laser boating in that case? More of Jesse's food analogies. Way back when the constructions rules were as much for the designers as the players. Maybe it's just a different kind of game.    Focht's Network is affiliated with the Catalyst Demo Team and associated with Catalyst Game Labs, and is the Events Team for Six Sides of Gaming. TSC Ep29: BattleTech! In! SPAAAACE!

Jesse, Scott, and Jo are talking Warships! Jesse likes sc-fi because of big machines that shoot lasers. BattleTech scales well, so let's see what happens at the biggest scale. The Hunters has a cool space battle! Naval assets - using a lot of ECM? Some of the secrets are buried in many old books. The wargaming table could be like a holotank! Please don't mess with electronics if you are untrained, and please don't sue us if you do. Do we lose something not being in 3D? 2D does save a lot of mental load. There is nothing in space. Relatively. Or is there? BattleTech with no terrain sucks. Six-thousand squares!?!?!? The space battle in IKEO wasn't so great. Just one Star Destroyer; is that the golden ratio? Are the Ravens building more warships in the periphery? Is a warship fleet the ultimate weapon? Not if you're looking to actually conquer anything. Clan names, great bands, we'll have to get back to that.  Focht's Network is affiliated with the Catalyst Demo Team and associated with Catalyst Game Labs, and is the Events Team for Six Sides of Gaming.
