What We Make

Angele Alberti

What We Make is a podcast about artistry, resilience, and the deeper stories behind image-making. Hosted by Angele Alberti, founder of L’Atelier, a creative consultancy supporting artists and brands in the fashion and advertising industries, the show offers an intimate space to reflect on the many paths that creativity can take. In each episode, Angele sits down with some of today’s most inspiring image-makers from photographers, stylists, art directors to makeup artists and designers to explore not just what they create, but why and how they do it. We look beyond the final image to uncover what keeps them inspired, how they navigate the ever-evolving creative landscape, and what it really means to build a life around art. These are stories of process, perseverance, and the moments that shape a creative practice. Whether you're an artist yourself or simply curious about the minds behind the visuals that move us, What We Make invites you into honest, thoughtful conversations about the journey behind the work. Susanna Brown: On Curation of Photography from the V&A to Tim Walker’s Fairyland

Curator and writer Susanna Brown on exhibition-making, writing photography, and why sharing art is about community, not gatekeeping. In this episode of What We Make, we travelled to London to meet curator and writer Susanna Brown at the London College of Communication. Susanna spent thirteen years as Curator of Photographs at the V&A, where she helped build the Photography Centre, and has curated exhibitions seen by hundreds of thousands of people, on Cecil Beaton, Horst and Tim Walker. This autumn she opens Tim Walker’s Fairyland at the National Portrait Gallery, and her most recent book, Chanel in Vogue, is out now with Thames & Hudson. We talk about curating as a form of storytelling, how she thinks about an exhibition from the visitor’s side, what it means to “collaborate” with photographers who are no longer alive, and why, after a career inside some of the world’s great institutions, she believes sharing art is about community and togetherness rather than keeping it for an elite.
