Ephesians: Thoroughly Converted (How do we change?)

What does it actually mean to be changed by Jesus? In Ephesians 4:17–5:20, Paul calls us to leave behind our old way of life and “put on the new self”—a life increasingly shaped by the character, love, holiness, and presence of Jesus. But this kind of transformation is more than simply becoming a better person or adding Christianity to our lives. Paul’s own story gives us a picture of what it looks like to be thoroughly converted—to have every part of our lives increasingly transformed by Jesus. We were created in the image of God and called to glory, but sin has marred what God intended. The good news of Jesus is that God is on a rescue mission to redeem and restore what has been broken. Through the Holy Spirit, He gives us new hearts, new desires, and new life. So the question is not simply, “Have I been converted?” but “Is Jesus transforming the whole of me?” In this message, we explore what it means to: • Put off the old self and put on the new self • Allow the Holy Spirit to transform every part of our lives • Reorient our whole lives around the person of Jesus • Cultivate deep devotion rather than settling for surface-level faith • Become the kind of people who are genuinely and thoroughly changed by Christ Jesus didn’t come simply to make us better versions of ourselves. He came to make us new. Scripture: Ephesians 4:17–5:20; Genesis 1–3; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Isaiah 61:4; Ezekiel 36:24–28 Big Idea: Before God wants to work through us, He wants to work deeply within us. One Year: Building & Finishing What You Started

STARTING IS EASY. FINISHING IS HARD. One year into Kingdom City Church, we paused from our series in Ephesians to ask a bigger question: What does it look like to become people who don’t just start well, but finish faithfully? Jesus warns about the person who lays a foundation but never finishes building. Hebrews 12 gives us another picture—a people who throw off what weighs them down, run the race marked out for them, fix their eyes on Jesus, and refuse to lose heart. Following Jesus isn’t simply about having a strong beginning. It’s about faithfulness over the long haul. In this message, we look at Hebrews 12:1–3 and discover four ways to keep going: • Look at the cloud :: You’re not alone. Generations of faithful believers have gone before you. • Throw off the weight :: Not everything weighing you down is sin, but anything that keeps you from running well needs to be surrendered. • Run the race :: Faithfulness means running the race God has marked out for you, at the pace He has given you. • Consider the Lord :: Fix your eyes on Jesus, whose endurance gives us the motivation and strength to endure. • Don't lose heart :: The goal isn’t simply to begin with inspiration. It’s to become test-proven finishers. If you’re tired, discouraged, distracted, or wondering whether you can keep going, this message is for you. Don’t lose heart. Keep running. Finish faithfully.
