    Brookside Level Crossing, Colcot Sports Centre, Heart Health in Warm Weather and Penarth Summer Events

    On the latest edition of Vale This Week from 7pm: We'll hear from the Route Director of Wales and Borders for Network Rail about the recent emergency closure of the Brookside Level Crossing in Dinas Powys, including the safety risk assessments that led to the decision. The Vale of Glamorgan Council is currently engaging with residents over the future of the Colcot Sports Centre and Buttrills Playing Fields sites. We'll speak with Leader Lis Burnett about what they're hoping to achieve. With temperatures set to rise once again, Calon Hearts Screening & Defibrillators UK Charity has warned about the increased pressures warmer weather can put on our hearts. We'll hear from the charity's founder, Sharon Owen. We'll get an update from Spike at Beacons Cymru about the Youth Music in the Park event at Belle Vue on Saturday, and some of the young talent being showcased at the event. Friends of Belle Vue Park, Penarth Ruby will hear from Lewis at Penarth Town Council, ahead of the return of the Penarth Summer Festival at the Kymin all day Saturday, which hopes to bring everyone in the local community together.

    Baruc By-Election, Holiday Safety, Everybody Moves, Bins for Boys and St Donats Chorale

    On the latest edition of The Vale This Week A by-election is set to take place next week in the Baruc Ward in Barry, on the Vale of Glamorgan Council. We’ll sit down with four of the six candidates standing to find out more about them and their views on some of the key issues impacting residents. A dance charity in Barry has been recognised by Paralympics GB in its Everybody Moves scheme. We’ll find out more about the work of Motion Control Dance Studio, in helping everyone have a chance to dance. Cardiff Airport has backed a campaign to make sure young people going abroad with friends are safe. The campaign has been led by the parents of Tom Channon, who died on a holiday to Magaluf back in 2018. Oliver will hear from them and Angelda Hewitson from Cardiff Airport about the scheme. Jasmin sits down with a Bro Radio Community Award winner, who’s launched a campaign to get his Bins for Boys scheme tied in legislation. She’ll hear from Ed Grant and more about his support group, CHILL - Cancer Help In Local Lives Nathan will hear more about the work of St Donat’s Chorale, ahead of its concert in Llantwit Major on Saturday.

    On the latest edition of the Vale This week 🗳 The team will meet one of the newly elected MS’s for Pen-y-Bont Bro Morgannwg - Sarah Rees, finding out about her time since being elected on May 8th and how she plans to engage with the local communities which she serves. 💩 Over 50 protests took place across the UK on Saturday, as part of the Surfers against Sewage campaign - calling on more to be done by Water companies and the government, to improve the quality of waterways. Rhiannon Williams headed to one of those protests on Barry Island. 🎸 With a growth in people making music locally, Beacons Cymru has launched an opportunity for local people to perform at the Belle Vue Music event in Penarth in July. Oliver Perry will chat to the organisers before 8pm. 🚜 The Vale Food Trail returns later this week, kicking off with the Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival - I’ll chat with organiser Louise Denham from Food Vale and Nia Mon, from Dirwest, one of the local businesses taking part, in an expanded two-week trail for 2026. 🎭 If you fancy a sprinkling of musicals, both new and old, CAOS is bringing its musicals and more events to St Athan, Cowbridge and Llantwit Major this weekend.
