Steam Shower vs Sauna in Orlando: Cost, Power & Humidity

In Orlando, a steam shower built into an existing bathroom typically costs $6,000 to $15,000 and uses about 35 to 42 cents of OUC electricity per session. A traditional electric sauna needs its own room, its own 240-volt circuit, and 52 to 84 cents of power every time you heat it up. We checked the pages that rank for "steam shower vs sauna" and "sauna vs steam room." None of the ones we read mentions Florida. So in this episode of The Remodel Report, Chris and Jessica run the numbers for Central Florida: the humidity math, the real OUC tariff, breaker sizes, City of Orlando and Orange County permits, HOA and condo rules, and where each one physically fits in your house. Are Gray Kitchen Cabinets Out of Style?

Gray kitchen cabinets are not out of style. Cool blue-undertone gray is. And the difference between the two is something you can test in your own kitchen in about two minutes. In this episode we go through the 2026 Houzz numbers, what actually dates a gray kitchen (it is almost never the cabinets alone), which gray shades are holding up, and the cheapest fix if you already own a gray kitchen you have fallen out of love with. The Permit Line: Kitchen Cabinets in Northern Virginia

In Fairfax County, replacing your kitchen cabinets and countertops requires no building permit at all. Move a plumbing, gas or electrical fixture and it does. That line gets drawn when your layout gets drawn, in a showroom, weeks before anybody picks up a tool. It decides whether you have a two day cabinet swap or a project with an inspection in it, and it costs more than any door style you will choose afterwards. We go through what the county actually exempts, what relocating a sink drags with it, and the part people find surprising: keeping the plumbing where it is does not mean keeping the same kitchen. Drawer banks instead of cupboards, wall cabinets to the ceiling, a U shaped pull out that wraps the trap rather than moving the drain. All cabinet work. None of it permitted work. Then the four words the trade uses interchangeably. Distributor, dealer, wholesaler, supplier. They are not synonyms, and the difference decides who answers the phone when a door fails eighteen months from now. Timestamps: 0:20 The whole episode in two sentences 0:48 What Fairfax County exempts 1:36 What moving the sink drags with it 2:01 Why layout is the budget decision 3:05 What you can change without a permit 4:03 Judge the box, not the door 5:01 Distributor, dealer, wholesaler, supplier 6:45 Two caveats: jurisdiction and your HOA One warning from the episode. Everything here describes Fairfax County. Alexandria City, Arlington County, Falls Church City and Prince William run their own permit offices. Ring your own building department. Most professionally completed projects run $40,000-$65,000 mid-range, with basic scopes at $25,000-$40,000 and high-end at $65,000-$100,000+, roughly one full tier above the $27,000-$35,000 national average. Cabinet Door Styles 2027: What to Spec

There is a hard floor on how narrow a Shaker rail can go, and it is set by the hinge, not by taste. Almost nobody publishes it. In this episode we go through the six cabinet door profiles worth specifying going into 2027, what the industry data actually measures, and where we think the market moves next. We keep those two things apart on purpose, because nobody has real 2027 numbers yet and plenty of articles pretend they do. TIMESTAMPS (measured from the merged file, not estimated): 0:00 - Intro 0:23 - Why door style is not a taste question 0:48 - There are only three cabinet door styles 1:46 - Inset is an installation method, not a door style 2:11 - Flat slab and the 69% number 2:55 - Where slab goes wrong on install 3:19 - Slim Shaker and the euro hinge floor 3:52 - What cabinet shops actually specify 4:36 - Wood grain overtakes paint 5:10 - What is actually replacing grey 6:03 - Fluted and glass, accent only 6:45 - Our 2027 read, clearly labelled 7:19 - Colour moves onto the cabinet 8:05 - Availability beats aesthetics, and lead times 8:59 - Takeaways 9:39 - Close SHOW NOTES: Verified figures cited in this episode, with sources and sample sizes: - 69% of professionals named flat slab a growing style (NKBA 2026 Kitchen Trends Report, 634 North American kitchen and bath professionals) - 72% specifying panel-faced refrigeration, 85% panel-faced dishwashers (NKBA 2026) - 59% call wood grain a growing finish, white oak top species at 51% (NKBA 2026) - Wood cabinetry 29% vs white 28%, the first time wood has edged ahead (Houzz 2026 US Kitchen Trends Study, 1,780 homeowners) - Rust +178%, chocolate brown +153%, mushroom +69%, olive +57% (Houzz 2026) - Sandstone searches +257%, Venetian plaster +94% (Houzz 2026) - Shop consensus on Shaker rail width: 2.25 to 2.625 inches (r/Cabinetry) Everything about 2027 in this episode is labelled as projection. The full NKBA 2027 report has not been publicly released, and there are no published 2027 percentages anywhere. As of recording, neither Benjamin Moore nor Pantone has released a 2027 colour of the year, and Sherwin-Williams published a forecast called Rewild rather than a single colour. Treat any article claiming otherwise with suspicion. Lead times quoted are supplier snapshots checked September 2026, not an industry benchmark. Bathroom Vanities: What the Standard Actually Tests

The certification standard every bathroom vanity in America is sold against tests a door. It does not test the box. In this episode we give you all three answers up front. One, every moisture test in ANSI/KCMA A161.1 is run on a door, a door edge or a finished surface. Nothing tests the sides, the back, the deck or the toe kick, which are the parts that actually get wet. Two, the plumbing code fixes exactly two numbers: 21 inches of clear floor in front of the sink and the toilet, and 15 inches from either centreline to a side wall or a vanity. Three, water does not get in through the surface. It gets in at the cut edges. Then we go through what the badges on a product page really mean, the sum that tells you the widest vanity your bathroom can take, why nobody has ever published a vanity depth, why the ADA number people quote is a maximum and not a target, what the drain does to your drawer plans, and where our own brand stops short. Small Kitchen Remodeling: Why Online Costs And Real Quotes Are Both True

The internet says a small kitchen remodel costs $10,000. Contractors quote $35,000. Both numbers are real, and understanding why is the difference between a budget and a disappointment. In this episode of The Remodel Report, Chris and Jessica break down the 2026 cost tiers for 70-100 square foot kitchens, the 42-inch rule that decides whether your layout works, the four cabinet moves that make small kitchens outwork big ones, the honest island verdict, and whether a small kitchen remodel pays back at resale. Frameless Kitchen Cabinets: What You Gain and Give Up

Frameless kitchen cabinets, also called full access or European construction, are sold on storage. This episode argues that is the wrong reason to choose them. What you gain is access: roughly an inch and a half to an inch and three quarters more opening on a base cabinet, and the ability to run a drawer or roll out pantry up to 36 inches wide with no center partition, where framed construction generally needs a center stile past about 24 inches. What you give up is roughly 8 to 15 percent on the price of the boxes, any possibility of inset doors in a semi custom line, and three things nobody raises in a showroom: the front edge you see between the doors is the box edge banding rather than a finished frame, crown molding and under cabinet lighting need build up strips to land on, and that banded edge takes the knocks a solid wood frame would otherwise absorb. What actually decides it is your walls. A face frame is a tolerance budget, giving every door a local reference and letting an installer hide an out of plumb wall behind a stile. Frameless spends that budget on access. ANSI/AWI 0620 requires installation plumb and level within an eighth of an inch over eight feet, and caps a flush overlay frameless reveal at about an eighth of an inch. A Blum hinge returns plus or minus 2mm of side adjustment. The hinge absorbs a reveal error; it cannot absorb a racked box. We also cover why published storage figures range from 4 percent to 20 percent, why frameless is not harder to install but is harder to install badly, the two questions to ask any installer bidding the job, the difference between Fabuwood Illume and Ovela that actually matters, and a correction on whether frameless can take inset doors.
