Ordinary Lives is a place for conversations about finding magic in the mundane. Our "ordinary" lives often reveal themselves to be exquisite, exceptional, and awe-inspiring if we are willing to open our eyes and pay attention. Just like the aspen tree's network of roots, we are all more connected than we think. courtneyzanosky.substack.com

  2. Ordinary Lives: Jim Zanosky

    JAN 12

    Ordinary Lives: Jim Zanosky

On the fourth episode of Ordinary Lives, I chat with my dad (and one of my best friends), Jim! He’s a New-Jersey born father, husband, son, CPA, and CFO that is close to a new season of life—retirement! In our conversation, we chat about: -The adjustment period that comes with new seasons of life and the fears & ambitions that seep into those periods. -What it looks like to slow down and embrace gratitude, even when things are chaotic and uncertain. -Lessons of patience. -How the internet has transformed business and our social interactions to be less personal and more transactional. -Why it’s so important to seize the vast opportunities that are open to us now. -The importance of finding a daily habit that makes you excited to get out of bed. -What it means to have your money work for you. My favorite takeaway from our conversation? “Slow down. Live in the moment instead of trying to get out of the moment. I think that people just rush everything along. If you can slow it down and enjoy it—which can be hard when you have pressures of life, a job, putting food on the table—but if you can see through that, you can enjoy it more.” My dad reminds us all that, “You can’t get somewhere unless you start.” Life won’t wait for you to be ready. Seize your opportunities. Be smart with your money. Implement good habits. And be really freaking present with your days. They flash before your eyes more quickly than we realize. 3. Ordinary Lives: Alyson Haines

    Ordinary Lives: Alyson Haines

On the third episode of Ordinary Lives, I chat with my friend Alyson Haines! Alyson is a soul guide and cosmic teacher that took a long and windy path to get to where she is today. In our conversation, Alyson and I chat about a range of things, including: * How she followed the breadcrumbs out of her corporate career and into discovering who she is outside of work—a path that includes podcasting, life coaching, facilitating breathwork, Reiki, reading the Akashic Records, and (re)learning astrology. * Finding expanders and examples that prove what is possible for your life. * The difference between spirituality and energy work. * What it actually means to be connected to your body. * Zooming out and finding tools that help you hold blind trust on your unknown path. * Allowing spiritual gifts to come online without resistance. * Permission to pivot and change your mind. My favorite takeaway from our conversation? “The connections you’re meant to make, the paths you’re meant to follow, the soul alignment, it will all happen, but you have to start by following something—whether that’s the nudge, the interest. Something is presenting itself to you if you’re eyes wide open enough to see it.” Alyson gives us all permission to listen deeply to what we’re being called to and embrace that curiosity instead of trying to resist it. She reminds us that there’s magic to be found underneath the fear once you allow yourself to dive in. About Alyson: Alyson Haines is an Astrologer, Spiritual Practitioner, and host of the “But, What if You Did?®” Podcast. Alyson teaches us that when we find soul alignment the labels we seemingly thought defined our lives no longer matter. She combines hands-on energy work with teaching her clients how to use their natal chart as a map to unlock their next level of soul alignment. On the second episode of Ordinary Lives, I chat with my friend, Debbie Mitten! Debbie’s “ordinary life” reminds us how important it is to cultivate a curiosity about our intuition—and it’s never too late to reinvent yourself and step into your dream life. About Debbie: Debbie Mitten is a curious and creative soul entering an exciting new chapter. Debbie lights up working with creatives, educators, and healers who are building something meaningful. having learned the hard way, she’s now passionate about helping women entrepreneurs put their health first while growing their businesses. Ordinary Lives: Faith Harron

On the first episode of Ordinary Lives, I chat with my friend, Faith Harron. In what is perhaps the most perfect conversation to kick off this new series, Faith and I chat about a range of things, including: cultivating joy, having a constellation of interests, creative ways to optimize time, and permission to be fully yourself. As Faith says: “You don’t have to suffer through your life.” Faith’s perspective reminds us all that it’s important to speckle your life with joy and to find beautiful moments in each and every day. About Faith: Faith Harron often likes to ask the question: how can you add more joy to your life? She's spent the last few years (and will continue to spend time) earnestly answering it herself. Her constellation of experience includes work as a consultant at BCG, engineer, reporter, strategy director, and writer of 16 books. She holds two degrees and honors from Stanford, and currently runs a consulting firm focused on upskilling, usually related to improving soft skills in the current and future workforce. She's also coauthoring a book, slated to publish in May 2026, about what college doesn't teach you. Connect with Faith: On Substack On Instagram On LinkedIn About Ordinary Lives: Susan Orleans wrote: “An ordinary life examined closely reveals itself to be exquisite and complicated and exceptional, somehow managing to be both heroic and plain.”  With each conversation on Ordinary Lives, Courtney shows that our seemingly ordinary lives are exceptional and awe-inspiring, and that there is magic to be found in the mundane. Here, we explore what’s lingering on our hearts, not in our brains. These episodes serve as a reminder that, just like the aspen tree’s network of roots, we’re all a bit more alike and connected than we think.
