    October 11, 2026 - John 13:18-38 - "Betrayal, Denial, and the Faithfulness of Christ"

    How does Jesus respond when those closest to Him fall short, stumble, or even turn away? In week 36 of our series through the Gospel of John, North End Church welcomes guest teacher and friend of our church, Jake Honeycutt. Continuing in the Upper Room, this passage lays bare the dark reality of human weakness, from Judas’ impending betrayal to Peter’s overconfident promise and imminent denial, set against the unwavering faithfulness and glory of Christ. This week, we unpack the stark contrast between our frailty and Christ's redeeming love through three key points: Jesus knows the failure of His disciples (v.18-30): Christ is never caught off guard by our weakness or treason; even in the shadow of betrayal, He remains fully in control and sovereign over Scripture's fulfillment. Jesus accomplishes salvation through His glory-bearing cross (v.31-33): The moment of ultimate betrayal sets in motion the very event that brings maximum glory to God—the cross where our salvation is secured. Jesus calls His disciples to reflect His love (v.34-38): In the midst of predicted failure, Jesus gives a new commandment: to love one another just as He has loved us, establishing self-sacrificing love as the true trademark of His followers.     October 4, 2026 - John 13:1-17 - "Will We Serve Others?"

    What does real leadership look like in the Kingdom of God? Returning to our series through the Gospel of John, Lead Pastor Dr. Scott Hood takes us into the Upper Room on the eve of the crucifixion. As Jesus prepares for the cross, He performs a shocking act of humility: taking off His outer garments, wrapping a towel around His waist, and washing the dirt off His disciples' feet. This week, we look at Christ's radical model of servant leadership and the challenge it presents to every follower of Jesus through four key points: Jesus makes serving a priority (v.1-3): Fully aware of His divine authority and where He was going, Jesus chooses to use His supreme power not to be served, but to serve. Jesus serves by washing feet (v.4-10): Unpacking the deep cultural shock of the Master taking the role of the lowest slave, illustrating both physical humility and our need for spiritual cleansing. Jesus serves the betrayer (v.11): A powerful testament to Christ's grace, washing the feet of Judas, knowing full well the betrayal that was already in his heart. Jesus commands His followers to serve others (v.12-17): The direct call to stop exalting ourselves and start washing the feet of those around us, finding true blessing in putting His example into practice.     September 27, 2026 - Leviticus 11 - "(Thus He Declared All Foods Clean)"

    What can an ancient Old Testament law about clean and unclean animals teach us about the Gospel today? Taking a brief break from our verse-by-verse study through the Gospel of John, North End Church welcomes guest teacher and friend of our church, John Steinke, for a special message in Leviticus 11. While dietary restrictions and ritual purity laws in the Old Testament might initially seem obscure to modern readers, this passage points directly to the ultimate heart of God: His perfect holiness and His transformative power. Through this message, we explore how God’s holiness is put on full display in the Law, and how Christ ultimately fulfills that Law, taking what was once far off, impure, or broken and making all things clean, holy, and new through Him.     September 20, 2026 - John 12:37-50 - "Unbelief vs. Belief"

    Despite seeing countess signs, miracles, and wonders, why do so many still refuse to put their trust in Jesus? In week 34 of our series through the Gospel of John, Lead Pastor Dr. Scott Hood leads us through the tragic and solemn conclusion of Jesus' public ministry. As John reflects on the crowd's hardheartedness, he shows how even their rejection fulfills ancient prophecy, while contrasting it with the profound promise held out to those who genuinely believe. This week, we examine the stark divide between human pride and saving faith through two key points: Unbelief Explained (v.37-43): Looking at the root causes of spiritual blindness and hard hearts, including those who saw the truth but refused to confess Christ because they loved the approval of man more than the approval of God.     September 13, 2026 - John 12:27-36 - "The Purpose of The Hour: To Glorify God"

    As Jesus approaches the cross, He admits that His soul is troubled. Yet, in the face of unimaginable suffering, His ultimate desire remains unchanged: to glorify the Father's name. In week 33 of our series through the Gospel of John, Lead Pastor Dr. Scott Hood examines this pivotal moment in Christ's ministry. The long-awaited "hour" has finally come, and Jesus reveals how His impending death is not a tragic defeat, but the ultimate victory that will put the majesty of God on full display. This week, we unpack the weight of Christ's approaching sacrifice by defining these core concepts and exploring four specific ways God glorifies Himself through the victory of Jesus: What is the hour?: Understanding the defining moment in human history that Jesus has been steadily moving toward since the very beginning of His ministry. What is glory?: Defining what it truly means for God to put His weight, perfection, and magnificent character on display for the world to see. Through judgment (v.31): The cross serves as the ultimate standard of justice, bringing the judgment of a broken world into the light. Through Satan's defeat (v.31): How the crucifixion paradoxically casts out the ruler of this world, securing the enemy's final and complete defeat. Through the drawing of His people (v.32): Jesus' beautiful promise that when He is lifted up on the cross, He will draw all people to Himself.     September 6, 2026 - John 12:12-26 - "Jesus Models and Expects Humble Compliance"

    What does it really mean to follow a King whose throne is a cross? In week 32 of our series through the Gospel of John, Lead Pastor Dr. Scott Hood takes us into the streets of Jerusalem for the Triumphal Entry. While the crowds wave palm branches and look for a conquering political hero, Jesus arrives as a humble, sacrificial servant. As He approaches the cross, Jesus clearly lays out the cost of discipleship, showing us that true victory only comes through surrender. This week, we look at the path of true discipleship and the cost of following Christ through four key points: Jesus models obedience to the Father's Plan (v.12-19): By riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, Jesus fulfills prophecy and demonstrates perfect, humble submission to the Father's will, even as the crowds completely misunderstand His true mission. Jesus redefines what following the King looks like (v.20-24): Using the powerful illustration of a grain of wheat falling into the earth to die, Jesus explains that true fruitfulness and eternal impact only come through sacrifice. Jesus expects his followers to follow His example (v.25-26): To truly serve Christ, we cannot just admire Him from a distance; we must be willing to walk the same path of humility and self-denial that He walked. Jesus expects a reordering of priorities (v.25-26): We are challenged to let go of our love for this world and our own earthly comforts, choosing instead to value eternal life and the honor of the Father above all else.     August 30, 2026 - John 12:1-11 - "What One Believes Will And Should Come Out"

    True worship reveals what we actually believe about the worth of Jesus. But how do we respond when someone else's devotion looks different, or even more costly, than our own? In week 31 of our series through the Gospel of John, Lead Pastor Dr. Scott Hood takes us to a dinner in Bethany just days before the crucifixion. Here, the atmosphere is completely changed by an extravagant act of love, giving us a front-row seat to two drastically different reactions to Jesus. This week, we examine our own hearts and the danger of criticizing how others worship by looking at two contrasting figures: Mary - Worships Jesus: Pours out a year's wages of perfume in an act of beautiful, unashamed adoration, showing that true worship holds nothing back from the Savior. Judas - Questions Jesus: Cynically criticizes Mary's costly sacrifice under the guise of practical concern, revealing a heart that ultimately values earthly wealth over the worth of Christ.     August 23, 2026 - John 11:45-57 - "What Are We To Do?"

    When confronted with the undeniable power of Jesus, a choice must be made. Following the miraculous resurrection of Lazarus, the religious leaders gather in panic and ask, "What are we to do?"—ultimately choosing to plot His death. But how should we respond to the overwhelming evidence of who Jesus is? In week 30 of our series through the Gospel of John, Lead Pastor Dr. Scott Hood pauses to look back at the seven miraculous signs Jesus has performed so far. Instead of responding with hardened hearts like the Pharisees, we are challenged to look at Christ's perfect track record and answer that same question for ourselves: What are we to do? This week, we reflect on the seven miracles of Jesus recorded in the first half of John's Gospel: Water to Wine (John 2:1-11) Healing the Official's Son (John 4:46-54) Healing the Paralytic (John 5:1-15) Feeding the 5,000 (John 6:5-14) Walking on Water (John 6:16-21) Healing the Blind Man (John 9:1-7) Raising Lazarus (John 11:1-45) In response to these incredible signs, Dr. Hood leaves us with six practical ways to live out our faith today: Trust Jesus when life is ordinary or overwhelming.
