What's Next for the New York Liberty? What the End of Chris DeMarco Experiment Says About the WNBA

The WNBA had some pretty large victories this week, including the most watched postseason since the 1997 inaugural season. Not a bad way for the league’s 30th season to come to a close after the epic seven-game WNBA Finals showdown between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries. Howard Megdal and Jackie Powell break down those massive wins but then discuss the biggest news that broke on Tuesday’s election day that the New York Liberty would not be retaining head coach Chris DeMarco. Were Howard and Jackie surprised and what did they take away from what this experiment says about the Liberty, the WNBA and basketball coaching pipelines. The duo provides their lists of Liberty coaching candidates and then ends reflecting on the jam-packed nature of the women’s basketball calendar that lies ahead.    Thumbnail Photo Credit:    Now former New York Liberty head coach Chris Demarco looks on against the Minnesota Lynx in the second half during game one of the first round for the 2026 WNBA Playoffs at Target Center on Sep 27, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
