Gunung Padang and Sulawesi | Danny Hilman Natawidjaja | Megalithomania Podcast

Dr. Danny Hilman Natawidjaja, an Indonesian geologist and pioneering researcher at Gunung Padang, joins Megalithomania to discuss the challenges of dating ancient archaeological sites using techniques such as seismic imaging, geophysical surveys and LiDAR, particularly in a landscape profoundly shaped by tectonic activity. Andrew Collins and I first explored Gunung Padang with Danny back in 2015, witnessing firsthand the remarkable site that would later spark worldwide debate. In this interview we revisit that research, including the controversial publication—and subsequent retraction—of Danny’s paper on Gunung Padang. The paper was withdrawn not because of any evidence of data fabrication or misconduct, but because of the far-reaching conclusions it presented, making it one of the most contentious episodes in recent archaeological publishing. We also explore underwater sites that link with the ancient stories of Sundaland, the lost continent of Indonesia - and look at the remarkable Megaliths of Sumatra and Sulawesi that Danny has explored in depth. Robert Bauval | Nabta Playa and the Origins of Egypt | Megalithomania Interview | Audio

Hugh Newman of Megalithomania interviews author Robert Bauval about Nabta Playa, the Giza Pyramids, African origins, archaeoastronomy, and megalithic Egypt. We discuss new evidence about the prehistoric origins of Egypt from his book Black Genesis, (co-authored with US physicist Thomas Brophy), and the agenda to keep the true origins of Egypt suppressed. NOTE: Audio only. Born in Egypt in 1948, Robert Bauval is the bestselling author of The Orion Mystery, Keeper of Genesis (with Graham Hancock), The Egypt Code, Breaking the Mirror of Heaven, Imhotep, The Secret Chamber, The Master Game (co-authored with Graham Hancock). His breakthroughs in alternative Egyptology have cause a storm in the academic world but helped unlock many secrets of the pyramid builders. Robert's website. Archaeoastronomy and Decoding The Long Man of Wilmington | Stuart Mason | Megalithomania Interview

Hugh Newman of Megalithomania interviews Stuart Mason, author of The Long Man of Wilmington: Britain's Stonehenge of the East (2026). They discuss the mystery of archaeoastronomy and how the ancients aligned sites all across the planet, and then get into Stuart's latest discoveries of solstice and equinox alignments at the Long Man in Sussex. What he has found is as important as the solstice alignment of Stonehenge, as it marks a calendar throughout the solar year. Hugh and Stuart also discuss other sites that have a similar phenomenon, such as Karahan Tepe, Newgrange, and other ancient landscapes that incorporate this knowledge. Stuart Mason is a researcher, folklorist, author, and ancient landscape guide with over 30 years of experience studying archaeoastronomy and ancient cosmologies worldwide. His work focuses on lunar cycles, solstices, and long-term celestial patterns, and lived ion remote islands in the Pacific, where he learnt the indigenous systems of navigational astronomy. His focus now is on exploring how prehistoric monuments encode astronomical knowledge within mythic and ritual landscapes. Through field research, writing, and guided exploration, Stuart investigates the enduring relationship between land, sky, and sacred time. He spoke at Megalithomania in 2007, founded The Antiquarian Society in the same year, organised the Out of the Ordinary Festival in Sussex for many summers and his new book on the Long Man of Wilmington was launched at Megalithomania 2026.
