Listen, Honey! I’m Hanging Out with a Professional Bull Rider, Baby!

Listen, Honey! Y’all know I’ve been to a couple of events for Bulls, Bands and Barrels. The professional bull riding and western sports entertainment events are great nights out for families and they mix in live music, too, which is what first drew me to them.  A couple of episodes ago, I talked to the founder and CEO of BBB Hunter Price. Go watch that episode if you haven’t already. He’s so down-to-earth and I can see why everyone around the event says it’s like a big family.  Well, one of the perks of being Katie Combs, y’all, is that I also got to hang out with and talk to professional bull rider Wyatt Riddle. That’s who I’m talking to this week and he is not only a BULL. RIDER. Period. But he’s also super interesting. We talked about how he got into western sports (his dad was a professional bull rider) and the lifestyle these folks live traveling around the country riding 1,000-pound animals that can kill you. He told us about where he’s from (Ohio) and why Oklahoma and Texas are prime real estate for competitors in the sport.  But we also talked about his women troubles, how he stays healthy, what he does when he gets hurt (which happens a lot in this sport), and all kinds of other stuff. He competes in BBB events, but also on the Professional Bull Riders tour and other organizations. Wyatt said he’s hoping to one day be a $1 million Bull Rider. He sure has a big fan rooting him on in me, y’all. Give the episode a watch or listen and be sure to share it with your friends. Especially single women who may have a CDL! Oh, and don’t forget Amble, y’all! You know I’ve lost 80 pounds. They’re helping me on my weight loss journey and y’all know I’ve lost a bunch of weight, right? Sign up and join the journey at joinamble.com.  And we have to give Bulls, Bands and Barrels a big shout out. Not only did they give us time with both Hunter Price and Wyatt Riddle but as you’ll see when you watch, they provided the set and the production team to record this one. So thanks to them for a big to-do for little ole me.  Listen, Honey! Is produced by Jason Falls at Falls+Partners. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Listen, Honey! I’m Back from The Beach Blessed by the Thrift Gods

Listen, Honey! Y’all know I was heading to the beach for a birthday vacation, right? Well, Lucy, Dylan and I met up with Hannah and James at Panama City, Florida last week and had the best time. It was a little cooler than beach weather so we really just hung out and let the kids run around, but sometimes that’s just what you need to restore your soul, right? We’re at home this week and honestly, I am beat. But I figured it was a good idea to record a little at home episode to fill you in on all the fun we had and places we recommend. Of course, I also go over the pre-vacation part of vacation, which is as important as the vacation itself. I explain the obsession I have right now with meat. Especially ground beef. I’m not one to start a conspiracy theory, but I am a little paranoid about our food system and think we should all be watching it closer than we are. I’ve been a little suspicious that the meat I’m getting at the store just ain’t right. So I have been tracking down some local beef farmers and would encourage you to do the same. I found some and the taste is just better, y’all. At any rate, the ground beef we got at one of our first restaurants in Panama City was about raw. I don’t do that, so I wound up cooking most of the time rather than eating out. Although, when you go to Panama City, you have to stop at Thomas Donuts at least twice.  As I say in the episode, if they don’t have their Chocolate-Covered Cream-Filled Long Johns in Heaven, I’m gonna have to talk to somebody. But the highlight of the trip was that the Thrift Gods smiled on ya girl! I left Goodwill with no less than two full buggies. And that doesn’t count the Salvation Army or the thrift stores Hannah went to with me. I got dresses for me and Lucy, shorts, a purse and all kinds of other things. There’s more details in the episode so give it a full listen! And I got off track with my GLP1 and ate too much sugar all week, so I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. But I’m cleansing and recuperating this week, so I’ll be back to feeling better real soon. Even though I did for a few days, I want to make sure you don’t forget Amble. They’re helping me on my weight loss journey and vacation aside, I’ve lost 80 pounds! Sign up and join the journey at joinamble.com.  Listen, Honey! Is produced by Jason Falls at Falls+Partners. Listen, Honey! We’re at The Bulls, Bands and Barrels Tour with CEO Hunter Price

Listen, Honey! Y’all saw on social media back on Valentine’s Day weekend I was at the Bulls, Bands and Barrels event in Lexington, Kentucky, watching both western sports like bull riding and barrel racing, and amazing live music (Dylan Gossett and Tyler Nance were at this one). I’d been to a previous stop of the BBB tour in Huntington, West Virginia because my buddies in The Creekers were playing there. Well, while I was in Lexington at AllTech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park, I sat down with Bulls, Bands and Barrels founder and CEO Hunter Price. Listen, honey! Y’all know me sitting across from some corporate CEO doesn’t sound like much fun, but Hunter is nothing like the corporate executive stereotype, other than he runs a good business. Let me tell you, honey … Hunter Price is my people. Y’all are going to love him and this episode of the podcast. Bulls, Bands and Barrels is a family-friendly, fun traveling rodeo and western sports competition with added entertainment with some of the best country, western and bluegrass bands to boot. They’ve done events with everyone from Jelly Roll to Ella Langley to, of course, The Creekers. Dylan and I took Lucy and that girl is ready to ride a bull! Hunter told me about how the tour and event series was started, how the competition works, all the places they’ve been (and plan to be). We talked about camping and cooking and coffee and tea. We also talked about KOA again. (Hello?!? Sponsorship?!?!) The only bad mark for Hunter was he didn’t know what a pop was and says that all pops are Cokes which is just wrong. Period.  He also told us that Nace, one of his camera men, was recently hooked by a bull in the ring. And we have the footage of it in the episode! You’ll be able to tell that I could have sat there and talked to Hunter all night. You’d never know he was a big-shot CEO of a big company.  Y’all know I’ve lost 80 pounds, so don’t forget Amble, y’all. They’re helping me on my weight loss journey and y’all know I’ve lost a bunch of weight, right? Not only did they give us time with Hunter for the episode, but as you’ll see when you watch, they provided the set and the production team to record this one. (And one of the camera guys was Nace – the one who got hooked by a bull and lived to tell us about it.)  So thanks to them for a big to-do for little ole me.  Listen, Honey! Listen, Honey! I’ve been busy and stressed and Lucy has been sick!

Listen, Honey! It’s far too long to have waited without a good catch up episode so we’re back at the house this week. But don’t worry! I’ve been recording some fun interviews for the podcast the last two weeks, so all this busy is going to amount to something good. I told y’all last time that I was hoping for a quiet snuggle-time Valentine’s Day (which is mine and Dylan’s anniversary) with my Cheesecake Factory while Lucy slept. Well, it all happened the way I’d hoped.  BUT … We woke up the next day and Lucy was runnin’ a fever. We’ll catch up with that on the episode.  But I was able to go to the  Bulls, Bands and Barrels event and interview their CEO Hunter Price and rodeo star Wyatt Riddle. Both of those episodes are coming soon and wound up being way funnier and fun than I thought they might be, so look out for those! I’m also stressed that I’ve got a beach trip coming up and haven’t planned enough. I also figured out this week I can’t bake a cake when I’m wound up about all this other stuff.  And I’m trying real hard not to jump back on the point that I need a camper. I have come to the realization, though that I don’t need it right now. But on June 13 I’m heading to Wise, Va., for the Kentucky-Virginia District Fair. Then I’ll be at the Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, Ky., in July. And then in October, I’ll be in Pikeville, Ky., for the Mountain Grrl Experience. So this camper situation is going to have to fix itself soon. You probably already know that I asked y’all to tell me some gossip or ask questions before I recorded this episode, so I get into your contributions toward the end, here. But I do thank you for watching and listening and sending in your stories and questions. I do love a good catch up episode. So here’s one! Oh, and don’t forget to Amble. Listen, Honey! LilyLouTay (Hannah Taylor) and I cooked up a great episode!

Listen, Honey! One of my online and offline besties Hannah Taylor drove eight hours from South Georgia to join me in Nashville to record an episode of the podcast. You may know her as @lilyloutay, the New York Times bestselling author of Measure With Your Heart, an amazing cookbook that makes her DE-licious Southern recipes part of your recipe archive, too.  Y’all?! My girl was on The Today Show for this book! She’s famous! Hannah lives in a lake house with her husband James (yes, James Taylor, but not that James Taylor) and her three children, plus a zoo’s worth of animals. She’s as laid back and even keel as a person can be so I wanted her to share that vibe with all of y’all. We talked about cooking and recipes, of course, but we also went deep into camping, children, family travel, hurricanes, home birth and a lot more. Hannah gets a little emotional talking about her husband and her kids, so we had a moment or two during the episode. Listening to her talk about him just made us both well up inside. But I know you’ll appreciate those moments as much as the ones where we laughed about everything from mayonnaise to vasectomies.  This was such a fun conversation and I know you’ll come away from this loving Hannah as much as I do. This was the last of our first round of Nashville interviews and I can’t wait to go back.  And don’t forget  Amble. They’re helping me on my weight loss journey and y’all know I’ve lost a bunch of weight, right? Sign up and join the journey at joinamble.com.  Big shout out to The Cast Collective in Nashville for their studio and production team’s help pulling all this together. Listen, Honey! Listen, Honey! We’re back at the house, but I want a camper!

Listen, Honey! We’re back at the house for another catch-up episode of the podcast. Snowmageddon is over (can I get an “Amen!’) and we’re thawing out. We had one day that got into the 60s this week and, honey, I am ready for summer NOW! All that anticipation got me looking at my calendar and y’all have been inviting me to some events. June 13 I’m heading to Wise, Va., for the Kentucky-Virginia District Fair. July 17-18 I’ll be at the Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, Ky. And then in October, I can’t wait to go to Pikeville, Ky., for the Mountain Grrl Experience.  Now all that thinking about events and travel has me hyper-fixated. Honey, I want a camper. Let me just tell you this, honey: I’m gettin’ a damn camper. I have to have one. I hate staying at AirBnBs … y’all know I prefer KOA Campgrounds … but I just need a camper.  If I had one, we could stay at the campground this coming weekend at the Bulls, Bands and Barrells event at the Kentucky Horse Park I’ll be going to in Lexington. (I’ll be recording an episode there for the podcast, too, so stay tuned.)  This coming weekend (when I’m recording) will be Valentine’s Day and that’s mine and Dylan’s anniversary, too. We’re doing an AIrBnB Friday night since we’re going up for the Bulls, Bands and Barrels event. If we had the camper, though, we could stay at the Horsepark campground.  I also want a puppy for Lucy, but with campers and puppies and Dylan’s Hummer he wants, we’re just going to give it all to the Lord. Another thing I talk about on this episode is that when we get back from the weekend and shopping and such, I have got to get back on track with my GLP-1 journey. I’ve got a beach trip planned. Now, me and Dylan have been getting it together. We’re doing to the gym together now which, praise God for Momma keeping Lucy a couple days a week so we can. It’s a blessing to have some time with just Dylan but I’m sore as all get out. Leg day wasn’t good to me this week! But I’m getting reset with my Bluegrass Precision Wellness supplements and plan. You should definitely check them out if you’re looking for help on your journey.  I”m going to get back on track because I’m going to have a fun summer. And, by gawd, Momma wants a camper. If you want me to help promote an event or something that will help pay for it, just email me! (lifeofkatieann - @ - gmail - dot - com).  I love yoins. Oh, and don’t forget to Amble. Listen, Honey! We are at The House! For the Podcast and Snowmagedon

Listen, Honey! We are at the house for this episode. I’m telling y’all, I’ve done set up a home studio so we can do more podcast episodes. Now, I don’t know what I’m doing, so these first few from my new home studio aren’t going to win any awards for movie making, but honey, we’re going to do some more catching up, more often now. The worst part was I was trying to set all this up with a day or two left before Kentucky got struck by Snowmagedon 2026. Oh, we got snowed in, but it wasn’t no 14-inches like they were calling for. Still, I had to go back and forth to Best Buy an hour away as the weather was threatening to start. (They’re the closest store where I can get cords and equipment and such.) We made it back in time to get snowed in which about drove me crazy. Isn’t that how it always is? Two or three days and cabin fever sets in.  But we made it out, got our crispy Coke Zero and McDonalds and survived.  I’m so excited the Danae Hays episode is out there and honey, we’ve got some more doozies from our Nashville trip coming up, too. Make sure you are subscribed to the podcast on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever else you can so you don’t miss ‘em. We’ve got Andi Marie Tillman and Hannah Taylor coming up and both of those conversations were so much fun.  I’m going to do my best to get you weekly episodes now that I can film these shorter, solo ones at home. I’m sure my producer is thrilled to have twice the work, right Jason?  I love yoins. Oh, and don’t forget to Amble.
