    Buddy (2026) Horror Movie Review

    This week on the Couch of the Dead, we're talking about one of the strangest and most unexpectedly entertaining horror movies of 2026: Buddy! Vanessa and Matt were so intrigued by the buzz surrounding this limited theatrical release that they went to see it TWICE, and now they're breaking down everything they loved, hated, laughed at, and couldn't stop thinking about. Buddy takes the innocent world of children's television and turns it into a dark, violent, surreal horror comedy filled with nostalgia, creepy talking objects, gruesome kills, and one seriously disturbing orange unicorn. We start with a spoiler-free conversation about why Buddy works, its nostalgic 90s children's-TV aesthetic, and why this bizarre movie completely won us over. Then we dive into FULL SPOILERS, discussing the characters, Buddy's increasingly terrifying behavior, the Buddy universe, our favorite kills, the meaning behind the story, and that absolutely wild ending.     INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER (2026) Movie Review

    The doors to The Further are open again… but should they have stayed closed? This week on the Couch of the Dead, we're reviewing Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth installment in the popular Insidious horror franchise. We talk about the movie's central concept, the characters, the connection to the previous Insidious films, and whether this latest chapter brings anything new to the franchise. While we found the premise interesting and the movie entertaining at times, we had plenty of problems with the execution, especially the reliance on nostalgia, callbacks, familiar horror tropes, and a disappointing lack of genuine scares. Then we head straight into spoiler territory and break down the story, characters, demons, The Further, and some of the movie's biggest WTF moments. Finally, we put the movie through the Couch of the Dead scoring system and reveal our official ratings. And because apparently we haven't suffered enough, we finish the episode with an Insidious trivia challenge testing our knowledge of the entire franchise.     Hellcat (2025) Shudder Horror Movie Review

    This week on the Couch of the Dead, we're talking about Hellcat, a unique Shudder horror movie that puts us inside a moving camper with a mysterious infection, a suspicious hunter, and a whole lot of questions. We break down the movie's mystery, suspense, twists, werewolf mythology, characters, acting, directing, pacing, and ending, including one very unexpected werewolf surprise that definitely divided us!     Ice Cream Man (2026) Movie Review

    This week on the Couch of the Dead, we went to the theater for Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man, and this movie came loaded with blood, gore, possessed kids, and some seriously ridiculous kills. We break down the movie from beginning to end in this spoiler-filled review, talking about the story, characters, practical effects, creative death scenes, and the supernatural ice cream man at the center of it all. Was it scary? Not really. Was it gory? Absolutely. Was it fun? Definitely. But we also had plenty of problems with the story, including some massive plot holes and moments that made us seriously question the logic of the movie. We also compare Ice Cream Man to other horror movies, discuss Eli Roth's approach to gore, and revisit some of the movie's most outrageous kills.
