More Movement Please

Famous Ashley Grant

I walked into my first Zumba class and lasted 15 minutes before I had to leave because I couldn't breathe. I couldn't do a single jumping jack. I couldn't hold a plank. I was using 5-pound dumbbells and calling them my "big weights." That was August 2023. Today? 600+ group fitness classes. 26 pounds down. I'm using 20-pound dumbbells, taking multiple classes in a day, and chasing the high that comes with working out and moving more every chance that I get. I'm Famous Ashley Grant, and More Movement Please is a fitness podcast for women over 40 who are done waiting to feel stronger. Think of it as your fit after 40 survival guide, minus the unrealistic advice and the influencers who make everything look effortless. I record most episodes from my car on the way to and from the gym, so they're quick (5-10 minutes), honest, and easy to binge. Think of me as your workout buddy who keeps it real. This show is part accountability, part education, part inspiration. I talk about beginner fitness tips, gym motivation, what to do when you sleep through your alarm, why most fitness influencers are full of it, and how small lifestyle changes beat crash diets every single time. Sometimes I bring on guests — like my YMCA instructor Rhonda Goode, who told me the thing that changed everything: "Everyone is busy, but it's a choice to schedule exercise just like anything else." The goal isn't a number on a scale. It's getting strong, feeling better in your body, and building a community of people who believe they deserve to move. I want this to be more than a podcast. I want it to be a movement of movement. Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes weekly. Onwards and upwards, friends. Have you worked out today? Why I Feel Guilty About Food (Even Though I Don't Believe in Diets)

You don't subscribe to diet culture, so why does eating a bowl of pasta still make you feel like you've done something wrong? If the cravings have been hitting hard lately and the guilt is hitting harder, this one is for you. In this episode of More Movement Please, Ashley gets honest about a stretch of relentless sweet, carb, and soda cravings, and the guilt that showed up uninvited along with them. She talks through what she's actually doing about it, from moving her body more and reaching for water first, to giving herself real permission to indulge in a mindful way so the guilt doesn't spiral into binging. This is not a lecture on willpower. It's a reminder that fitness is sometimes messy, that cravings are normal, and that you can be active, mindful, and still completely human. If you've ever felt alone in the messy middle, come hang out. Want to share your story or give feedback on the show? I Cried on a Mountain Last Week: How Should I Celebrate 1 Year of Maximum Effort?

Last week I stood at a mountain overlook and cried, and the view was not the reason. The reason was that this time last year, I physically could not have made the hike to get up there. In less than two months, I hit 365 days of maximum effort in fitness, and I have absolutely no clue how to celebrate it yet. In this episode, I talk through what one year of going all in has actually looked like (over 700 workouts, 624 classes, four pant sizes down, graduating from three-pound weights to twenty-pound dumbbells), why I refuse to stop celebrating every milestone along the way, and the half-formed ideas I am wrestling with for the big day. Should I do 365 squats and 365 push-ups like one of my Facebook followers suggested? Stick with the espresso martini and tiramisu cheesecake plan? Pack the day with back-to-back Zumba, low-impact cardio, and toning classes? I want your help picking this. Want to share your story or give feedback on the show? Less Movement, Please? Wait, WHAT?!?

Three hundred plus days of pretty much daily movement, and the More Movement Please girl is about to say something you probably did not expect: less movement, please. Well…sort of. I just got back from a seven-day trip, got dressed to go to Tabata, made it as far as the doorway before getting sick, and finally had to admit out loud what my body has been screaming for weeks. In this episode, I'm sharing the new four-week experiment I just announced on Instagram (three gym days instead of five, with yoga, walking, hiking, and stretching filling the other four), the head colds and cycle issues that have been piling up despite being healthier than I've ever been, and the very real fear of being judged that almost kept me quiet about all of this. If you're white-knuckling a fitness routine that is quietly wearing you down, this one is for you. Spoiler: pulling back is not quitting. Want to share your story or give feedback on the show? Waterfalls, Wet Rocks, and What Terrain Actually Does to Your Body

How does a 0.6-mile hike eat up a full hour and leave your quads screaming? Because terrain is everything, and I learned that the hard way over seven days of waterfall hikes from Kentucky to Florida and back. In this episode, I'm breaking down why hiking twelve miles on uneven ground hits harder than walking twenty miles flat, why downhill is secretly more brutal than uphill (looking at you, eccentric quad load), and the sliced pinkie I picked up at Tallulah Gorge that taught me to keep my hands free. I'm also sharing the non-scale victory I did not see coming: my husband asking me to slow down for once. Plus, the food and water recap I promised, including how splitting every dinner saved us money and calories, why packing one prepped meal for the road is a move I'll make every trip, and what we drank, ate, and refilled obsessively for seven days straight. Vacation does not have to mean pausing your movement. Here's proof. Want to share your story or give feedback on the show? Real Talk on Weights, the Scale, and What a Full Week of Working Out Actually Looks Like

She lifted the 20-pound dumbbells and didn't die...and that's just one of the wins Ashley is unpacking in this listener Q&A. From what a real week of workouts looks like after 280+ days of consistency to her honest, complicated relationship with the scale, this episode gets into the stuff people actually want to know. Ashley talks non-scale victories (including a wedding ring that hadn't fit in a decade), why she dialed back from 22 hours of exercise a week to 13, what the people in her life think about how much she works out, and what she'd tell anyone who keeps saying they'll start on Monday. A Letter to the Version of Me Who Was Afraid to Start

Two years ago, Ashley was terrified to walk back into a gym and convinced that dieting was the only option. Now, 280-plus days into her fitness commitment, she's "writing a letter" to that version of herself and it might be exactly what you need to hear today. From lifting 3-pound dumbbells to reaching for the 20s, she gets honest about the pain, the cravings, the moments she wanted to quit, and why she's so glad she didn't. If you've been waiting for the right moment to start moving, this episode is that moment. Have you worked out today? Want to share your story or give feedback on the show?
