Wednesday Night Boxes for November 5th, 2025

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit jonahp.substack.com Welcome back to Wednesday Night Boxes. For the night of Wednesday, November 5th, 2025. Episode 3. Kept it going so far. Introduction Playing Fast, But Not Loose! NBA’s increased pace this season: 98.8 possessions per game to 100.1 this year so far. Hard to sustain. New season, fresh legs. Free-Throw Attempts are way up this season: 21.6 per game last season to 26.0 per game so far. The officiating emphasis and the pace are two reasons. We'll see if this trend continues over time. Offensive Rebounding has ticked up from last year: 11.1 to 11.5 per game. This could be related to the free-throw increase. On to the box scores: 5:40 In Cleveland, Cavs 132, Sixers 121 Cleveland is Intact! (Cavs beat Sixers in Garland’s Return. Embiid was absent on the second night of the B2B.) 7:07 In Detroit, Pistons 114, Jazz 103 Pistons surge With Jalen Duren, hold off Jazz (Duren 22-22 doing his best Moses Malone impersonation.) 8:25 In Indiana, Nets 112, Pacers 103 Brooklyn has a win! (Along with Mamdani! Nets and Pacers now 1-7) 10:00 In Boston, Celtics 136, Wizards 107 Celtics roar back to life (Jaylen Brown sparkles in blowout over the Wizards) 12:02 IN NYC, Knicks 137, Wolves 114 Knicks spoil Edwards' return in lopsided win (Knicks offense clicking in Win over Wolves) 13:00 In Memphis, Rockets 124, Grizzlies 109 Rockets coast in Memphis (Ja Morant questions hang above Grizzlies as they drop 4 in a row) 16:04 In Dallas, Pelicans 101, Mavs 99 Mavs crumbling without Anthony Davis or Derrick Lively (Home loss to Pelicans) 17:43 In Denver, Nuggets 122, Heat 112 Jokic and Denver Keep Rolling (33-15-16 in Domination Over Heat) 19:06 In LA, Lakers 118, Spurs 116 Lakers Stifle Spurs and Wemby (Up to 7-2) 22:06 In Portland, Blazers 121, Thunder 119 Thunder Suffer First Loss against Resilient Blazers (Now 8-1) 25:03 In Sacramento, Kings 121, Warriors 116 Kings hold off Injured Warriors (Westbrook turns back time; no Steph, Jimmy or Draymond)

Wednesday Night Boxes (October 29th - Wemby)

Wednesday Night Boxes - Wednesday Night Boxes 10.30.25  Intro: Wembanyama! League Leaders Maxey, PHI 37.4 ppg Jokic, DEN 14.5 rpg Jokic, DEN 11.3 apg Wemby, SA 1.3 win shares Via basketball-reference 5:00 Cavs @ Celtics Halftime: Celtics 75, Cavs 60. At half, Celtics were 14 of 28 from deep. Hauser made his first 4 3s. The two teams combined to shoot 109 3s overall. Boston 21 of 57, Cleveland 17 of 52 Final: Celtics 125, Cavs 105 9:00 Rockets @ Raptors Most intriguing matchup of the night. The supersized Rockets versus the speedy Raptors. Rockets outrebounded Raptors 52-23. Final: Rockets 139, Raptors 121 10:47 Hawks @ Nets Can the Nets lose by less than 20? Can Jalen Johnson and Kristaps Porzingis play a game together? Instead of finally getting healthy the Hawks lost Trae Young to a knee sprain when a teammate toppled into him under the hoop. I always say, if you're a small point guard, avoid going anywhere near the hoop on defense. But Trae found himself there, under the hoop, and some other Hawk fell into him and now the Hawk fans are wondering if this team will ever be healthy together. When will the Nets win a game? The schedule says...maybe next week! Final: Hawks 117, Nets 112 12:52 Magic @ Pistons The Magic needed this one to get back on track. Like last season, Orlando's shooting problems persist. Desmond Bane is but one man. Magic needs a shooting magician. Final: Pistons 135, Magic 116 14:46 Kings @ Bulls The UnbeataBulls! Just remove Coby White from the lineup and this Bulls team has caught fire! Okay, wins against the bottom half don't necessarily mean much yet...but still...these Bulls! Final: Bulls 126, Kings 113 16:08 Pacers @ Mavs Point guard-less Pacers versus point guard-less Mavs. This is why you don't buy season tickets to any team. Because some nights, most of the good players are injured. Even a week into the season. Final: Mavs 107, Pacers 105 19:10 Lakers @ Wolves Luka-less Lebron-less Lakers? Ant-less Wolves? Austin Reaves to the rescue. Reaves' buzzer beater helps Lakers topple Wolves. Final: Lakers 116, Wolves 115. 20:57 Pelicans @ Nuggets The Pelicans have talent. The Pelicans have panache. The Pelicans have Zion. Except his hamstring isn't quite right. Nuggets in a laugher. Final: Nuggets 122, Blazers 88 22:16 Blazers @ Jazz Jrue Holiday still got it. Defense? Anyone? Final: Blazers 136, Jazz 134 23:40 Memphis @ Phoenix In the desert, they can't remember your name. Morant bucket propels Grizzlies over the sad Suns Final: Grizzlies 114, Suns 113 This is a public episode.
