    141 Mirror

    Kimberly and Cara both land on a hall of mirrors right out of the gate, and then find out they live on opposite ends of the thing. Kimberly barely uses mirrors at all, not even while brushing her teeth and not for self-reflection, and she realizes mid-sentence that she has never once written one into a script. Cara has spent a lifetime staring into them, and learned as a kid that she could dissociate into a mirror and warp the whole room around a single blonde eyebrow hair. From there it travels to Alice, to a mirror Cara is still irritated she has not managed to fall through, to a trickster creature in a childhood episode of Lost in Space that Kimberly blames for her lifelong mirror suspicion and to why actors cannot stand watching their own footage. Then Kimberly sets one up and Cara spikes it: use the mirror as a verb, not a noun. Whatever mirrors you is the thing. The "Is It Just Me?" lands on patterns. Take right and wrong off a situation and there are only three or four of them, repeating fractally, forever. Which is why the patterns be patterning.

    140 Lava Lamp

    Kimberly and Cara take "lava lamp" apart and follow it from a furry-walled 70s movie scene into a black-box theater, a rainbow of imaginary snacks, a coop full of opinionated chickens, and a genuinely spicy conversation about who gets told not to question things. It starts where Kimberly once lost time on stage during No Exit, hypnotized by a lava lamp on set, and turns into a case that the stare which "turns your brain off" is actually a nervous system finding its footing. From there the two of them build the neurospicy welcome kit live: the lava lamp, sensory swatches, soft tagless clothes with pockets everywhere, and a snack that tastes like its color so you can finally answer whether you're a red snacker or a purple one. Then Red the chicken struts into frame and steals a whole segment. The "Is It Just Me?" gets real when they land on the quiet reflex that lets smart people hear their own rights questioned and think, oh, but they don't mean me. Same but different, all the way down.

    139 Prophet

    Kimberly dives right in with prophet which , to her, is a leader who is also an oracle, someone carrying a vision they are trying to hand to somebody else. Then she flips the coin, the way she always does, and lands on Cassandra: the one who tells the truth and is never believed. Cara clarifies for the record that today's word is prophet the person, not profit the money, and the two of them spend the first third of the episode inside that flip side. Cassandras in public life. Cassandras in meetings. And Kimberly's new favorite phrase for it, Cassandra in the coal mine, where the alarm is completely accurate and the crew heads deeper into the tunnel anyway. It gets specific fast. Cara on the loop of saying a thing, watching it die in the air, and hearing a man repeat it word for word to a room that suddenly agrees. Kimberly on the research that says a lower voice reads as more authoritative, and the fact that she still shifts where she places her own voice depending on which client she is coaching. Cara owns her restaurant-industry version of that same knowledge, higher register and extended vowels, and does not soften it one bit. Then the harder turn: Kimberly's childhood job as the family peacekeeper, and the day the unfairness got louder than the risk of speaking. The back half opens all the way up, from Khalil Gibran's pocket-sized Prophet to the question Kimberly asks every writer she meets, which section of the bookstore will I find you in. And the "Is It Just Me?" reframes the whole episode: that loop you keep landing back in is a spiral, and it is going up.

    138 Instincts

    Cara calls it before they even start: this is a juicy one, and the word "instincts" is going to send them wormholing across dimensions instead of down the usual rabbit holes. She is right. What follows is one of their longest conversations, and it opens in the body, with the brain-gut axis, the hormone soup running the nervous system, and the amygdala quietly steering while the frontal cortex takes the credit. Their shared landing: for all our management teams and our spot on top of the food chain, we are still messy, instinctual animals most of the time. From there the trail widens. A story from Cara's week at an ancestral-skills gathering, where kids caught a set of escaped rabbits and then learned what the rabbits were for. Disney and Pixar as real craft, right down to the hand-drawn cels you can still hold. Acting as structured shadow work, complete with the only time Kimberly ever broke character on stage. And the moment AI walks in as the perfect foil, because our instincts clock its clinical, six-fingered perfection as fake in about a second. That gut reaction becomes the whole point. You start messy and you end messy, so why would the middle be tidy? Two neurospicy brains, one very long wormhole, and a torn fortune cookie that lands, fittingly, right on the word instinct.

    137 Evoke

    Kimberly and Cara take the word "evoke" apart and follow it straight into witches, tartans, Southern sass, and the magic hiding in every Disney movie. For both of them, evoking means calling in something that isn't there yet at the level you want it, and the whole conversation becomes an act of doing exactly that. Along the way they get honest about language itself: the childhood reader who assigned her own meanings to words, the brain that packs whole sentences into four-letter acronyms, and the Shakespeare excuse Kimberly finally owns as a cop-out. Then the trail lands on magic, and the reminder that fairy tales don't show us something new, they remind us of the magic we already carry. The "Is It Just Me?" segment gets real when Cara asks if your brain moves faster than your mouth, which moves faster than your hands. Kimberly answers with the biology of the log jam, the Lucille Ball conveyor belt, and a reframe that might change how you treat your own racing mind: maybe it isn't lagging behind. Maybe it just took a little vacation, and it's on its way back.

    136 Morality

    Kimberly and Cara pull the word "morality" apart at the roots and find it written in sand by the shoreline, the kind of thing that goes out with the tide. They start where everyone agrees, that killing is bad, and watch the word "unless" swallow the rule whole. From there it is a husband who genuinely never knew you have to clean inside closed cabinets, Dr. Seuss as the DNA of morality, a William Shatner Twilight Zone rabbit hole (*side note: Cara was right), and a Disney movie about pond rules. The "Is It Just Me?" segment lands on a quietly big question: is karma just a way of outsourcing judgment? Kimberly unpacks the comfort of believing some outside force will settle the score so we do not have to, and together they trade it in for something more useful, karma as a daily question about what to rebalance next. Plus a method that becomes a caraway, a case for battling only when it is fun, and the difference between a cult and a culture.

    135 Inner Resourcing

    Cara breaks the format before the episode even starts and Kimberly's brain promptly fractals. That tiny derailment turns out to be the perfect way into the word of the day: inner resourcing, the finite, refillable supply that two neurospicy brains burn through over a long-short week. They build a working definition, upgrade spoon theory to a matchstick theory you will not forget, and land on a clarity-first question that runs through the whole back half: name the thing you actually want before you optimize the wrong one. Then the episode lives its own subject. An unexpected guest wanders into the Zoom mid-record, the recording stops, and Kimberly and Cara navigate the interruption out loud, a real-time case study in how small disruptions quietly drain a nervous system. Stick around for the marathon Cara does not actually want to run, the client who did not really need a car, and a series-bible edit Kimberly stopped to question. The "Is It Just Me?" goes somewhere wild: the music and council of voices that play in Cara's head at all times, and two people who developed an inner monologue during a hormone shift. Is it written in our DNA? Maybe. As Kimberly the scientist points out, two data points is not data yet.

    134 Resistance Is Futile

    Kimberly and Cara take a Borg catchphrase apart at the roots and find a two-sided coin underneath. "Resistance is futile" starts as Star Trek menace, then flips: Geordi nurtures a cut-off baby Borg into its own personality, and suddenly the lesson is that resisting itself can be powerful. From there the real question shows up - when is fighting a waste of your energy, and when is it the whole game? The answer takes them from Douglas Adams to the PWHL expansion draft (where fans are pure spectators watching their favorite players get cherry-picked away) to a casino floor and the biggest country-western bar in Atlanta. The "Is It Just Me?" segment goes two ways this week. First Kimberly wonders how alien species in sci-fi ever built spaceships without thumbs. Then Cara asks the one that lands closer to home: does everyone's brain chase rabbits like this, or is it just us? What follows is a warm, science-nerdy ramble through tangents, neuroplasticity, and a brand-new term for the heightened awareness that hard things leave behind. Plus: a teddy-bear wrestler named Tex, the "right face" that lets you say anything to anyone, and a fortune cookie that really should try harder.
