Turning Grief Into Your Superpower with Patrick McCarthy

Grief doesn’t only happen when someone dies. It can show up after a breakup, a major life change, losing a job, losing a version of your future, or saying goodbye to a person or chapter you thought would always be there. In this episode, Olivia sits down with Patrick McCarthy (@misterpjm) for an honest conversation about what grief actually does to us — emotionally, physically, and even in the way we see our lives. After losing his mom, Patrick began sharing openly about grief online and quickly found that thousands of people were carrying versions of the same pain. Together, he and Olivia talk about what it means to stop running from grief, how to live alongside it, and how loss can eventually reshape the way you love, connect, and choose to live. In this episode, you'll learn: Why grief can feel so lonely, even when loss is universalWhat happens when you avoid, suppress, or outrun griefHow grief can show up physically in your bodyWhy there is no “right” way or timeline to grieveHow to handle jealousy when other people still have what you lostWhy you may feel guilty for laughing, feeling joy, or not being “sad enough”How grief can make it scary to love and attach to people againWays to keep someone’s memory alive after they’re goneHow to support someone you love who is grievingWhy grief can change what matters to you — and sometimes become a source of meaning, courage, and deeper love Whether your grief is fresh, years old, or tied to a loss that looks completely different from someone else’s, this episode is a reminder that you don’t have to grieve perfectly. You just have to let yourself grieve honestly. You Don’t Have to Lose Yourself to Become a Mom with Kylee Noorlander

Can I be a good mom and still miss my old life? Can I love my kids more than anything and still want time alone? Can I be ambitious, love my career, and not feel guilty for wanting something outside of motherhood? These are the hard questions so many moms ask themselves — and the ones we don’t always say out loud. In this episode, Olivia sits down with Kylee Noorlander, founder of Come Home Collective, to talk about what it actually looks like to become a mom without losing yourself in the process. Kylee became a mom at 21, and she opens up about loving motherhood while also grieving parts of the life she thought she would have in her twenties. Together, they talk about the guilt of wanting more, the pressure to be everything to everyone, the identity shift that comes with motherhood, and why taking care of yourself is about so much more than “self-care.” They also get into career and motherhood, comparison, nervous system regulation, learning to trust yourself, letting go of the life you thought you were supposed to have, and figuring out what you actually want your life to look like. Because maybe the question isn’t whether you can do motherhood perfectly. Maybe it’s: How do you build a life where you can deeply love your kids and still recognize yourself inside of it? Kylee recently launched the Come Home Method, a program designed to help women do exactly what this episode is all about: get more connected to who they are, what they need, and how they want to live. LGBTQ+, Faith, and the LDS Church: The Conversation We Need to Have with Richard Ostler

In this episode, Olivia sits down with Richard Ostler, host of the Listen, Learn & Love podcast, to have an honest conversation about LGBTQ+, faith, and the LDS Church. Richard is the author of Listen, Learn & Love: Embracing LGBTQ Latter-day Saints and has spent years listening to and sharing the stories of queer Latter-day Saints through his podcast, which now has more than 900 episodes and 8 million downloads. Richard shares how serving as a YSA bishop changed the way he understood and supported queer Latter-day Saints, and why listening to people’s lived experiences became such an important part of his own faith journey. Together, Olivia and Richard talk about shame, belonging, personal revelation, same-sex marriage, church participation, suicide prevention, allyship, and what it really looks like to become a safe person for the people around you. They also get into the questions that don’t always have easy answers: What do you do when someone you love feels like their identity and their religion are asking them to choose between two parts of themselves? How do we support people without trying to decide their path for them? What can we do to make our homes, churches, and communities safer places for queer people? And with rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation so high, what does meaningful support actually look like? This conversation isn’t about having every answer, but it is about listening better, loving people more deeply, and making room for honest questions, complicated experiences, and real faith. How to Stay Informed About News and Politics Without Losing Your Mind with Spencer Joseph, 10x Emmy-Winning Journalist

Politics and the news can feel impossible to keep up with. There’s always another headline, TikTok, breaking story, opinion, or person telling you what you should believe; and sometimes trying to stay informed just leaves you feeling even more overwhelmed. So what do we do? A lot of us get overloaded and stop paying attention altogether. In this episode, Olivia sits down with 10x Emmy-winning journalist Spencer Joseph to talk about how to actually stay informed without letting the news, and all the emotions that come with it, consume you. Olivia and Spencer also talk about how algorithms shape what we see, why your social media feed can make one perspective feel like the only perspective, how to spot bias and lies, how to hear people you disagree with without abandoning your own beliefs, and why it’s okay to say, “I don’t know enough about that to have an opinion yet.” Spencer shares what he’s learned from years working inside the news industry, including how stories get reported, why breaking news rarely gives you the full picture, how to recognize more trustworthy sources, and why going back to original documents, videos, and reporting can completely change the way you understand a story. If politics stresses you out, you’ve stopped following the news altogether, or you just want to become a more thoughtful and informed person, this episode gives you practical ways to understand what’s happening in the world without letting it take over your life. Stop Living in Fear: Trusting God’s Plan with Chase Roberts

NFL wide receiver and former BYU standout Chase Roberts joins Olivia to talk about what it looks like to choose faith when you have absolutely no idea what comes next. After injuries disrupted his NFL Combine preparation, Chase was advised not to run the 40-yard dash. He chose to run anyway, and finished with the slowest time of the receivers who participated. But for Chase, that moment became about something bigger than a number: deciding whether he was going to live his life in fear or move forward in faith. And wouldn't you know it? Chase is now playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. Chase and Olivia talk about trusting God when His plan looks different than yours, finding peace in uncertainty, feeling behind in your 20s, unanswered prayers, breakups, identity beyond achievement, and why some of the hardest seasons of our lives may be the ones shaping us the most. Chase also shares what it’s been like going from BYU to the NFL, stepping into an uncertain future with the Las Vegas Raiders, and using his platform to point people back to God. If you’re in a season where you can’t see how everything is going to work out, this episode is a reminder that you don’t have to know the ending to move forward with faith. Uncertainty can be your greatest asset. Grief Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Have a Beautiful Life with Krista Jones

Life doesn't always go the way we thought it would. Sometimes it's losing someone we love. Sometimes it's heartbreak, a friendship ending, a diagnosis, a career change, or simply realizing the life we pictured for ourselves isn't the life we're living. Krista Jones learned that lesson earlier than most. She lost her dad to cancer when she was just seven years old, was raised in large part by her grandparents before eventually losing both of them, and at 19 watched her mom battle breast cancer. But this episode isn't only about grief. It's about what happens after life changes you. Olivia and Krista talk about how to keep moving forward when something happens that you never would have chosen, why hard experiences can make us desperate for control, how to stop living in fear of the next bad thing happening, and what it looks like to let joy back into your life without pretending the hard things didn't happen. They also talk about relationships, anxiety, therapy, faith, and trusting God when life feels unfair. Because grief isn't limited to death. We grieve people, relationships, dreams, seasons, expectations, and versions of our lives we thought we'd have. And maybe moving forward isn't about getting back to who you were before. Maybe it's learning that you can carry what happened to you and still build a really beautiful life.
