Can I Speak to the Manager?

Money can bring comfort, opportunity, and security, but it can also become something we depend on more than God. Jesus understood how easily our hearts can become attached to what we have, which is why He spoke so often about money and generosity. In this message from The Way of Jesus, Pastor Brett Crimmel explores Matthew 6 and the difference between being a spender, a saver, and a steward. We discover that generosity isn't primarily about what God wants from us. It's about what He wants for us. When we learn to serve God and use money, rather than serve money and simply include God in our lives, we become free to live with open hands and invest in what matters for eternity. Scripture: Matthew 6:19–34 Discussion Questions When you think about money, do you tend to look to it for happiness, security, or something else? Jesus said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). What might your spending and saving habits reveal about your priorities? Brett described three approaches to money: spenders, savers, and stewards. Which one best describes you right now, and why? In Matthew 6, Jesus points to the birds and the lilies as reminders of God's provision. What worries about tomorrow make it difficult for you to trust Him today? What is one practical step you could take toward greater generosity, whether through consistent giving, stewardship, or investing in something with an eternal impact?

    Love That Shows Up

Jesus said that one of the clearest signs that we are His followers is the way we love one another. But what does that kind of love actually look like? Continuing in Romans 12, we see that real love is more than being pleasant or saying the right things. It is genuine, grounded in truth, committed like family, willing to honor the value God has placed in every person, filled with hope, and visible through the way we serve and care for others. The challenge is not simply to find a community that loves this way. It is to ask whether we are helping build one. Discussion QuestionsWhere are you most tempted to put on a mask instead of letting your love be genuine? How can you tell the truth to someone you care about without using “truth” as an excuse to be harsh? What would change if you treated your church relationships more like family than a weekly event? Who is difficult for you to honor right now, and how might remembering their God-given value change the way you treat them? Where is God asking you to keep hoping, praying, or showing up for someone, and what visible step of love can you take this week?

    Made for This

How Do I Discover My Spiritual Gifts? God did not design any of us to follow Jesus alone or to play every role ourselves. Romans 12 describes the church as one body made up of many different members, each with something valuable to contribute. In this message, Pastor Brett looks at spiritual gifts and what they teach us about purpose, humility, community, and serving others. Discovering your gifts is not simply about taking a test or finding the perfect category. Often, we discover how God has gifted us by paying attention to what we love, what we are good at, what others affirm in us, and then getting involved. Discussion Questions: Where are you tempted to think either too highly or too lowly of yourself? What would it look like to see yourself more accurately through the grace of God?What do you love doing, what are you good at, and what strengths have other people consistently affirmed in you?Where have you noticed a need that you tend to care about more than other people seem to?How connected are you to other people in the church right now? Where might you be trying to follow Jesus on your own? What is one practical way you could start serving someone this week instead of waiting until you are completely sure of your spiritual gift?

What God is Doing in the Dark

Why does God allow us to go through painful seasons?Suffering has a way of narrowing our vision until the problem in front of us is all we can see. In 2 Corinthians 1, Paul offers a bigger perspective. His own suffering taught him to rely not on himself, but on “God who raises the dead.” In this message, Pastor Brett explores how God can work through our pain. Difficult seasons can expose our self-reliance, deepen our trust in God, and give us a story that can one day bring comfort and hope to someone else. We may still have unanswered questions. We may still wish the pain would stop. But our suffering does not have to be wasted. God can teach through it, redeem it, and use what we have experienced for the good of others. Discussion QuestionsWhere in your life right now are you most tempted to say, “I’ve got this,” instead of depending on God?Which is hardest for you to process: unanswered questions, unfair accusations, unanswered prayer, or unmet expectations? Why?How has a difficult season taught you something about God or yourself that you might not have learned otherwise? Is there someone in your life who could be encouraged by something you have already walked through?Instead of only asking God to remove a difficult situation, what would it look like to ask Him to grow your faith through it?

    Can You Hear Me Now?

How do we know when God is speaking? Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice.” Yet with constant notifications, packed schedules, competing opinions, and our own emotions, recognizing God’s voice can feel surprisingly difficult. In this message, Pastor Brett explores how God has spoken throughout Scripture and four primary ways He continues to speak: through His Word, prayer, the Holy Spirit, and circumstances and community. We also learn how to test what we are hearing against Scripture and how simple practices like creating margin, writing things down, seeking wise community, and obeying what God has already shown us can help us become better listeners. God is not simply interested in giving us information. He speaks to transform us, guide us, correct us, comfort us, and draw us closer to Himself. Discussion QuestionsWhat tends to create the most noise or distraction in your life when you are trying to listen to God?Of the four ways discussed in the message, Scripture, prayer, the Holy Spirit, and circumstances or community, which do you find easiest to recognize? Which is hardest? Why is Scripture so important when trying to determine whether something you are sensing is actually from God?Is there something you believe God has already asked you to do that you have delayed or avoided? What could you change this week to create more margin to listen to God and respond to Him?

I Am Not, But I Know I Am

What do you do when you feel unqualified for what God is asking of you? In week two of The Way of Jesus, we meet Moses carrying the weight of past failures and present doubts. When he asks, “Who am I?” God responds, “I will be with you.” Through Exodus 3–4, Pastor Brett explores how God takes the initiative, responds to prayer, and provides for what He calls us to do. We also consider how God’s comfort in our difficult seasons can equip us to care for others. This message invites us to notice where God is already working and take a practical step of trust this week. Discussion Questions Where do you most often feel “not enough,” and how does God’s promise to be with Moses speak to that? Where might God already be at work in your family, workplace, or neighborhood, and how could you join Him? What would making prayer your first response look like in a situation you’re facing this week? How has God comforted you through a difficult season, and how could you offer that same comfort to someone else? What step of obedience have you been putting off because you feel unqualified, and what would taking that step this week look like?

    A Way of Life

You can leave church wanting to grow and still find that, a few days later, everyday worries have taken over your attention. What happens to the things God was teaching you? In the first message of The Way of Jesus, Pastor Brett walks through Jesus’ parable of the sower. The four soils describe different responses to God’s Word: a hard heart, a shallow heart, a divided heart, and an open heart. Each invites us to look honestly at our own lives. If life has worn you down or you’ve become distracted, God has not given up on you. This message encourages us to make time for Scripture and respond to what God is teaching us. As we begin this journey alongside our Rooted groups, we have an opportunity to help one another follow through. Discussion Questions Which of the four soils best describes how you’re responding to God’s Word right now? What makes you say that? What tends to crowd out your attention to God during the week? What could you change to make room? When following Jesus becomes difficult, how do you usually respond? What would help your faith take deeper root?Brett described spiritual growth showing up in our generosity, forgiveness, and treatment of others. Where have you seen God changing you? Where do you still need His help? What is one step of faith you can take this week, and who could encourage you to follow through?

    The Secret of Prayer

What does it actually look like to grow in prayer? Special guest Pastor Jim Walters explores Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6 and a simple truth at the center of the message: the secret of prayer is prayer in secret. Prayer can happen anywhere, but intentionally spending time alone with God creates space to listen, worship, give thanks, pray for others, bring our own needs to Him, confess sin, forgive others, and seek His direction. Pastor Jim also shows how the Lord’s Prayer can become more than a familiar passage we recite. It provides a practical framework for an extended conversation with God. As we begin with a desire to know God more, develop the discipline to meet with Him regularly, and continue practicing it, prayer can increasingly become a delight. Discussion Questions What currently helps you make space to be alone with God, and what most often gets in the way? Pastor Jim described spiritual growth in prayer as moving from desire, to discipline, to delight. Where would you say you are in that progression right now? How could using the Lord’s Prayer as an outline change the way you pray this week? Is there a prayer you have been asking God about for a long time? What might it look like to keep asking, seeking, and knocking while also trusting His answer? Is there anything you need to confess, forgive, or release to God so that it no longer hinders your relationship with Him?
