I am your host AsandaLondon, tuning in every week from London. I'm devoted to championing the sounds of South African Deep house. My name is actually Neelam. I first got the name 'Asanda' on a British scheme trip to Eastern Cape 8 years ago. In Feb 2023, I went to Cape Town and discovered South African Deep House. When I got back to London I worked on getting my home setup to start learning to DJ from my bedroom in Nov 2023. I kept Asanda as my stage name. In Nov 2024, I started the Daring Deeply show on EXT Radio. Since then I've played at notable deep house spaces across South Africa on my 3 month 'training tour' in 2025, such as Born2House, Altitude and Zen63 as well as in the UK at Natives, Abantu and Sondela. I am so blessed to have a monthly residency on MetroFM’s Urban Beat and I'm working on my first compilation, Daring Deeply Volume 1. Thank you so much for listening.     Hi deep house family. I start this episode off with a 20 min reflection. We lost our beloved community champion DJ Sizzla, the first person to bring me onto a radio show as a guest, which was right here on EXT 5 months into my journey. Sizzla was so loving and so genuinely supportive, this episode is dedicated to him. My compilation, Daring Deeply Compiled by AsandaLondon has a release date! The single My Side of The Story by Kevin BlaQue drops this Friday, 25th Sept 2026, with the whole compilation dropping Friday 2nd October, with Candid Beings. What's happening in South Africa breaks my heart. 60% of women that are killed are killed by their intimate partners. (South African Medical Research Council). Living in a sexist society means women are not afforded their humanity, or their safety. This is exacerbated in regions most impacted by debilitated infrastructure because women and children are often the most vulnerable, and because societies have not yet humanised women. A culture that I know all too well coming from Indian background. In the music scene, which is heavily male dominated, I have had my fare share of experiences, inhibited by my naivety. But it's nothing in comparison to fear of leaving my house. I use music as a way to hold onto joy, and experience joy, in amidst such a devastating world. In this world of evil, there is also good. I am because we are, the ubuntu proverb DJ Sizzla used every opportunity to remind us of. Thank you for listening and tuning in. I love you all so much!
