The Woman Who Gave Until She Broke

Nisa Helpline (Canada): 1-888-711-6472 — confidential support for Muslim women Islamic Social Services Association (ISSA): issacanada.org — Muslim counselling and community support I worked so hard at one of my gatherings that by the end of the night I had developed a fever and could not sit with my own guests. And the people I had exhausted myself for were in the other room making fun of me. This episode is about what happened next — and what I am still learning. Today I am speaking from my own experience. About what it means to be a naturally generous person who gets burned — badly, publicly, in your own home — and then has to figure out how to give again without becoming either a doormat or a wall. About the hardening that happens after that kind of wound. And about the slow, imperfect, still-not-finished process of opening back up. We talk about what Islam says about giving — the standard of giving for Allah rather than for approval or reciprocity, and the equal Islamic instruction not to ruin yourself with your own hands. We talk about what true friendship actually does when you are inside a wound. And we talk honestly about where I am now — still hesitant in some ways, still learning, but giving again. Trusting again. Slowly. The giving was right. It was always right. What other people do with it is between them and Allah. Give again. If this helped you, please leave a rating. It helps other women find us. More on this episode: fromzakhmtoshifa.pages.dev/episodes/s3e24/
