Three Good Giants
In this captivating exploration, I embarked on a journey to uncover the essence of Rabelais three iconic Giants Grandgousier, Gargantua, and Pantagruel. It became clear to me that I could dissect Rabelais work into two distinct layers—incident and philosophy. Surprised yet undeterred by the lack of previous attempts, I resolved to focus solely on the rich narratives surrounding these Giants. With the precision of a sculptor, I aimed to preserve their true spirit while stripping away the impurities that have long obscured their brilliance. My mission was to elevate these figures above the murk that has historically clouded their significance, revealing the genuine camaraderie and worth they embody. Contrary to the traditional portrayal of Giants as fearsome and cruel, these Rabelaisian characters stand apart, inviting us to see them not as villains but as misunderstood beings deserving of recognition. - Summary by From the preface
