The Man Behind the Scrubs | ER Nurse Justin Page

We often see healthcare workers showing up for everyone else. But how often do we stop and ask who’s showing up for them? In this episode of Beneath the Surface | Mental Health Podcast, I sit down with Justin Page, an ER nurse, to get to know the man behind the scrubs. Because there’s more to someone than their profession, their responsibilities, or the version of themselves the world sees every day. We explore what it means to work in an environment where you’re constantly showing up for others, the emotional weight that can come with caring for people during some of their most difficult moments, and the importance of recognizing your own mental health along the way. But this conversation isn’t just about nursing. It’s about Justin as a person. The experiences that shape us, the expectations we carry, and the parts of ourselves that don’t always get seen when we’re busy fulfilling a role. And that’s something I think a lot of us can relate to. Whether you’re a healthcare worker, someone who’s always been the person others lean on, or someone still learning how to prioritize yourself, this conversation is an opportunity to look beyond what people do and understand who they are. Because sometimes the people who spend their lives taking care of everyone else need someone to ask how they’re doing, too. 🎙️ Beneath the Surface | Mental Health Podcast 💬 Let’s talk: Have you ever felt so focused on taking care of others that you forgot to check in with yourself? ❤️ If this conversation resonates with you, share it with someone who might need to hear it. 🔔 Subscribe or follow for more honest conversations about mental health, identity, vulnerability, and the things we carry beneath the surface. 📱 Connect on Instagram: @beneaththesurfacepod You deserve to be seen beyond what you do for others. Rebuilding the Man in the Mirror

Sometimes, rebuilding yourself means facing the parts of your past you’d rather forget, owning your mistakes, and realizing that who you were doesn’t have to define who you’re becoming. In this episode of Beneath the Surface | Mental Health Podcast, I sit down with Jonathan PB to get to know the man behind the bodybuilding, the discipline, and the person everyone sees on the outside. But this conversation goes beyond the gym. Jonathan opens up about his journey of self-discovery, redemption, and learning how to move forward after difficult chapters in life. We talk about the gym becoming a form of mental therapy, what it means to take accountability for your past, and finding the courage to rebuild when things don’t go the way you imagined. We also explore how stepping outside your comfort zone can change everything. From living in Orlando while pursuing his MBA at Saint Leo University, to his first international trip to India, and eventually finding a place to call home in Houston, Jonathan’s journey is about discovering that there’s more to life than the path you originally pictured for yourself. And that’s something I think a lot of us can relate to. Sometimes we get so caught up in who we think we’re supposed to be that we forget we’re allowed to grow, change, and become someone different. This conversation isn’t about having a perfect comeback story. It’s about recognizing that even when you make mistakes, you still have the opportunity to write a different chapter. Whether you’re working through your own struggles, trying to rediscover who you are, or simply figuring out your next step, I hope this conversation reminds you that your story is still being written. 🎙️ Beneath the Surface | Mental Health Podcast 💬 Let’s talk: Have you ever had to rebuild a part of yourself or start over when life didn’t go as planned? The Loss We Carried | Our Ectopic Pregnancy Story

🎙️ The Loss We Carried Our Ectopic Pregnancy Story | Beneath the Surface Some grief changes you in ways you never expected. Some experiences leave you carrying emotions you never imagined having to navigate. In this deeply personal episode of Beneath the Surface | Mental Health Podcast, I sit down with my wife, Bri, as we open up about our experience with ectopic pregnancy, losing our first baby, and the emotional aftermath that followed. Together, we share what it was like navigating something neither of us was prepared for, the feelings we carried individually, and how grief can affect not only your mental health but also your relationship and the way you see the world. This isn't a conversation about having all the answers, finding the perfect words, or pretending everything is okay. It's about the moments nobody sees, the emotions we don't always know how to express, and learning how to navigate grief together while understanding that we may experience it differently. Building a Brand That Feels Like You (The One Thing Most Creators Get Wrong)

What if building a brand isn’t really about creating an image… but about becoming comfortable enough to let people see who you already are? In this episode of Beneath the Surface, Danny Francois sits down with Taj Francois — filmmaker, creative, and multi-hyphenate — for a raw and deeply personal conversation about creativity, identity, authenticity, and the pressure to become someone we think the world will accept. Together, they explore one of the biggest challenges creators face: How do you build something that represents you without losing yourself in the process? From navigating the expectations of the creative world to shedding the masks we wear to feel accepted, Danny and Taj unpack what it means to find your voice, embrace your story, and create work that actually feels like an extension of who you are. Because sometimes we spend so much time trying to figure out what our brand should look like that we forget to ask the more important question: “Does this actually feel like me?” This conversation goes beyond logos, content, social media, and personal branding. It’s about authenticity. It’s about vulnerability. It’s about identity. And ultimately, it’s about giving yourself permission to stop performing and start creating from a place that feels real. If you’ve ever felt like you had to change, shrink, or present a different version of yourself to be accepted — especially in your creative or professional life — this conversation is for you. ⸻ 🎙️ BENEATH THE SURFACE | MENTAL HEALTH PODCAST Real people. One MRI Changed Everything

One MRI changed everything. What started as months of migraines turned into a diagnosis we never saw coming: a benign brain tumor. And honestly… benign didn’t make it feel any less terrifying. In this deeply personal conversation, Brie and I sit down and talk about everything we went through — from the moment we heard the diagnosis, to the fear, the sleepless nights, the “what if” rabbit holes, difficult doctor experiences, second opinions, surgery, and everything that came after. We talk about what it’s like to wonder if you’re going to lose the person you built your life with. What it’s like trying to stay strong for your spouse while also being a parent. And what happens when you’re suddenly thinking about your family, your daughter, your future, and all the things you never expected to have to think about at 32. But we also talk about the people who showed up. The family who stepped in. The doctors who made us feel heard. The little moments that gave us hope. And the realization that sometimes the best thing you can do is simply keep going. ❤️ This experience taught us something we don’t want to forget: Listen to your body. Trust your gut. Advocate for yourself. If something doesn’t feel right, ask questions. Get another opinion. Keep pushing for answers. You know yourself better than anyone. Today, we’re on the other side of surgery and incredibly grateful to be able to have this conversation. No polished version. No pretending everything was fine. Just us, being honest about where we’ve been and what we’re still processing. That’s what Beneath the Surface is all about. 💬 Have you ever experienced a moment that completely changed your perspective on life? You Don’t Have to Fight to Belong. Maybe You’re on the Wrong Stage.

What if you’re not too much? What if you don’t need to change? What if you’ve simply been trying to belong in places that weren’t built to hold all of who you are? 💭 In this episode of Beneath the Surface, I sit down with Alexis for a deeply personal conversation about belonging, finding your people, and learning to take up space as your authentic self. Alexis shares what began as a temporary move across the country and unexpectedly became a new chapter of her life — one filled with community, connection, and chosen family. 🏡❤️ We talk about what it means to feel at home with people. About letting your guard down. About finding emotional safety. About the connections that teach us who we are — and the ones that teach us when it’s time to let go. Because belonging isn’t about being accepted by everyone. It’s about finding the people who don’t require you to become someone else just to stay. Sometimes, the right community feels like walking into a room and realizing you don’t have to perform anymore. You can just be. ✨ And maybe that’s the stage we’re all trying to build — one where there’s room for vulnerability, growth, weirdness, honesty, and every imperfect part of being human. 🌱 ❤️ If this episode reminds you of someone who has made you feel seen, supported, or at home, reach out to them. Tell them. And if you’re still searching for your people, I hope this conversation reminds you: You don’t have to fight to belong. Your people are worth finding. 🫶 🎧 Listen to the full conversation and follow Beneath the Surface for more honest conversations about the things we carry beneath the surface. #BeneathTheSurface #Belonging #Authenticity #ChosenFamily #MentalHealth #SelfWorth #Community #PersonalGrowth #YouMatter

Who Are You When the Uniform Comes Off?

Who are you when the uniform comes off? We spend so much time talking about what veterans do, where they served, and what they accomplished. But what happens when all of that becomes part of your past? In this episode of Beneath the Surface, Danny sits down with Nick Lanier, Director of the MU Veteran’s Center and a veteran of the United States Army, for an honest conversation about identity, purpose, transition, and what happens when the role that once defined you changes. The uniform can give you a mission. It can give you community. It can give you purpose. But when you take it off... Who are you? Nick and Danny talk about life after service, mental health, vulnerability, connection, and the challenge of finding your way when the next chapter doesn't come with a clear mission. And while this conversation is rooted in the veteran experience, the question reaches far beyond it. We've all experienced moments when a career, relationship, title, or role that helped define us suddenly changes. And we're left asking: Who am I now? This conversation goes beneath the surface of that question and explores what it means to find purpose, connection, and yourself again. 🎧 Listen to the full conversation and join us beneath the surface. WHAT’S BENEATH SUCCESS? He Chased $100M — But What Did It Cost Him?

What if the thing you’ve spent your entire life chasing… can’t give you what you actually need? Brian chased success. He chased $100 million. And along the way, he discovered something that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough: You can have everything on the outside and still be struggling on the inside. In this episode of Beneath the Surface, Brian and I have a raw conversation about money, success, mental health, pressure, identity, purpose, and the cost of constantly chasing the next level. We get into the questions that tend to sit underneath the surface: What happens when “more” isn’t enough? What does success actually cost us? Can money solve the problems we’re carrying internally? And perhaps the biggest question of all: Who are you when you stop measuring yourself by what you’ve accomplished? Brian’s story isn’t simply about $100 million. It’s about the person underneath the pursuit. Because sometimes the hardest thing to confront isn’t failure. It’s realizing that success can’t fix everything. 🎙️ This is a conversation about going beyond the numbers, beyond the achievements, and beneath the surface. I Needed God… And Then He Said, “Daughter, It’s Time to Come Home”

What happens when you spend years running from God… only to realize He’s been waiting for you to come home? In this episode of Beneath the Surface, Danny sits down with Kaycee for a raw and deeply personal conversation about addiction, trauma, depression, self-destruction, sobriety, faith, and what it really means to experience freedom. Kaycee grew up as a homeschooled church girl. But somewhere along the way, knowing about God became very different from actually knowing Him. So she ran. Alcohol. Drugs. Self-harm. Depression. Brokenness. Trying to fill a void that nothing seemed to satisfy. Until one day, sitting in her car, she finally cried out: “I need You. I can’t do this without You. Please help me.” And she heard: “Daughter, it’s time to come home.” That moment became the beginning of a completely different story. But recovery wasn’t simply about getting sober. It meant confronting the things underneath the addiction. Learning the difference between guilt, shame, and conviction. Finding community. Facing temptation. Relearning how to see herself. And discovering what it means to live from God’s perspective instead of constantly being consumed by her own. Kaycee also shares one of the most powerful moments of her journey — being three months sober, on her way to church, and suddenly realizing: “I’m so glad I didn’t kill myself.” For someone who once felt lost, broken, and empty, being grateful to still be alive became part of her testimony. This conversation isn’t about pretending the past didn’t happen. It’s about realizing the past doesn’t have to be the end of your story. It’s about faith and recovery. It’s about surrender and transformation. It’s about community, truth, and learning to walk in freedom. And ultimately, it’s about what can happen when you stop running and finally come home. If you’ve ever felt too broken, too ashamed, too far gone, or like you need to fix yourself before coming to God, we hope this conversation reminds you: You don’t have to get better before you come to Jesus. You come to Jesus to get better. Sometimes healing begins with simply saying: “I need You.” 🎧 Listen to the full conversation and come beneath the surface with us. ❤️ CONNECT WITH BENEATH THE SURFACE Instagram: @beneaththesurfacepod If something in this conversation hit home for you, don’t keep it to yourself. The Drive That Changed Everything: How One Decision Saved Her Life

At 15 years old, Bailey nearly died. That moment could have been the end of her story. Instead, it became part of the reason she eventually chose a different path. In this raw conversation, Bailey takes us through her experience with addiction—from the moments that brought her to rock bottom to the fear and trauma that made her realize she never wanted to end up back in that hospital. But something else happened that changed everything. Her parents knew she was struggling. So they put her in the car and drove her to her uncle’s house. Her uncle had been through addiction himself. He understood the road Bailey was on—and helped her see that she didn’t have to stay on it. Looking back, Bailey knows there wasn’t one single moment that saved her. It was her parents stepping in. It was her uncle showing her another possibility. It was the memory of what she’d already been through. And it was Bailey making the decision to fight for a different life. This is a conversation about addiction, family, trauma, resilience, and what it really means to find your way back. Sometimes, changing your life starts with simply getting in the car. 🎙️ Beneath the Surface — real stories, honest conversations, and the things we don’t always talk about. People Pleasing Is Costing You More Than You Think

What happens when trying to make everyone else happy starts costing you yourself? That’s where this conversation begins. 🌊 In this pilot episode of Beneath the Surface, Danny sits down with his best friend and brother, Ravin, to talk about something they’ve both experienced in different ways: people pleasing and the need to feel accepted. Ravin opens up about what happened when he started changing parts of himself to make other people comfortable. He talks about dimming his light so other people could shine brighter. 🔥 And eventually, the people closest to him started noticing something: He wasn’t himself anymore. That realization didn’t happen overnight. And finding his way back hasn’t been a straight line either. But it sparked a bigger conversation about validation, friendship, authenticity, and the pressure we put on ourselves to be liked. 🪞 Because maybe the people you’re trying hardest to impress aren’t even the people you want to become. Maybe you don’t need their approval. Maybe you just need to learn how to trust your own. ❤️ 🌊 That’s what Beneath the Surface is about. Going past the easy answers. Talking about the things we don’t always say out loud. And creating a space where we can be honest about the messy parts of being human. If you’ve ever changed yourself to fit in, worried too much about what people think, or wondered whether you’re actually being yourself anymore… this conversation is for you. ✨ Don’t dim your light. 🎙️ Follow Beneath the Surface on Spotify and share this episode with someone who might need to hear it. 📲 Want to connect with us?
