How do you know whether God is speaking to you—or you're simply hearing what you want to hear?

That distinction matters when you're considering a new job, moving, leaving a church, starting a ministry, making a major financial decision, or determining the direction of your life. In this episode, Pastor Bill and Dennis discuss how believers can discern the voice of God versus the voice of the flesh.  One of the biggest dangers is deciding what we want first and then searching Scripture, circumstances, and other people until we find something that confirms it. An open door doesn't necessarily mean God opened it. A strong desire doesn't necessarily mean God gave it. Someone agreeing with you doesn't necessarily mean you've received confirmation. And feeling comfortable certainly doesn't prove you're in God's will. Using Abraham's journey as a major example, the conversation examines times when Abraham moved ahead of God, made wrong decisions, and was graciously redirected. It also looks at Cain and Abel and the danger of bringing God what we have determined is good instead of surrendering to what God says is good.  Pastor Bill and Dennis identify several things that can work together when discerning God's direction:  A desire God has placed upon your heart  An open door to move forward  Agreement with God's Word  Confirmation through godly counsel  The peace that surpasses understanding But underneath all of them is something even more important: the condition and motivation of our heart. Are we genuinely seeking God's answer? Or are we asking God to approve the answer we've already chosen? Jesus said His sheep know His voice. Learning that voice requires time in Scripture, prayer, fellowship, godly counsel, and actually walking with the Shepherd. Don't simply ask God to bless your decision. Seek Him until you're willing to follow His. #VoiceOfGod #GodsWill #Discernment #BibleStudy #ChristianPodcast #HolySpirit #Faith #ChristianLiving #SpiritualGrowth #Abraham #PastorBill #SonCountry #BibleTeaching #BiblicalWisdom

Why Christians Need to Read the Bible | Stop Taking Someone Else’s Word for It

Have you actually read the Bible for yourself—or are most of your beliefs based on what someone else told you it says? That's the challenge at the center of this episode. Pastor Bill, Dave, and Dennis discuss why Christians need to personally study God's Word, how Bible translations work, why context matters, and what can happen when we read Scripture through our traditions, assumptions, and personal biases instead of allowing Scripture to challenge them.  One of the central ideas in this conversation is the Hebrew concept of Shema. Biblical hearing isn't merely allowing words to enter our ears. Hearing God should move us toward response and obedience. The discussion includes Bible translations, Greek and Hebrew, ancient Hebrew word pictures, context, cherry-picking verses, spiritual growth, Christian liberty, conviction, and the difference between knowing information about God and actually knowing Him. The question isn't simply: "Have I read the Bible?" The better questions are: What is God showing me? What does this reveal about Him? What is out of alignment in my life? And what am I going to do with what I've heard? Open the Bible. Search it for yourself. Ask God to open your eyes. And then apply what He shows you. #BibleStudy #ReadYourBible #ChristianPodcast #Scripture #Shema #BibleTeaching #ChristianLiving #KnowGod #Discipleship #PastorBill #SonCountry #CalvaryChapel #Faith #JesusChrist

Are We Really in the End Times? | How Can We Know for Sure?

For decades, Christians have been saying we're living in the end times. Many people have become numb to the conversation, asking, "Haven't believers always said that?" So how can we know? In this episode of the Son Country Community Church Podcast, Pastor Bill, Dave, and Dennis examine what Scripture actually says about the last days. Rather than chasing headlines or sensational predictions, they look at biblical patterns, prophecy, and Jesus' own warnings to answer one important question: Are we truly living in the end times, or are we fooling ourselves? This discussion covers:  Are we really living in the last days?  Jesus' warning: "Take heed that no one deceives you"  Matthew 24 and the signs of the times  The days of Noah as a prophetic pattern  Why many Christians have become complacent  How deception is increasing in our culture  The danger of following teachers instead of Scripture  Being Bereans (Acts 17:11)  Dispensationalism, covenant theology, and keeping the main thing the main thing  The rapture, resurrection, and biblical hope  Why prophecy should point us to Christ—not distract us from Him  Living ready instead of living afraid The goal of biblical prophecy is not fear—it is preparation. Jesus repeatedly told His followers to watch, stay awake, and remain faithful because no one knows the day or the hour, but we can recognize the season. How Christians Should Respond to Fear, Media & End-Time Headlines

Is everything you hear online actually true? Jesus' first warning about the end times wasn't "watch the news." It was: "Take heed that no one deceives you." In this episode, Pastor Bill, Dave, and Dennis discuss a viral claim about restrictions on Christianity overseas, but the conversation quickly grows into a much deeper discussion about biblical discernment, media influence, fear, deception, and how believers should evaluate information in today's culture.  Topics include:  Why Christians must verify information  The danger of fear-driven headlines  Matthew 24 and Jesus' warning about deception  Acts 17:11 and searching the Scriptures  Social media algorithms and confirmation bias  Building God's Kingdom versus building personal platforms  Purpose before performance  The Kingdom Framework  Perspective versus perception  Why emotional reactions often cloud truth  How to remain grounded during uncertain times This practical discussion will encourage believers to stay informed without becoming fearful and to anchor every decision in God's Word rather than public opinion.
