The Faith Matters Podcast explores everyday faith in a complex world. Our goal is to strengthen and equip followers of Jesus just like you through practical and theological discussions and resources. In this podcast, we are diving deep into the practices of prayer and study. Each week, we’ll release two episodes featuring voices from our congregation reading a chapter from a book of the Bible, followed with a few reflection questions. Each episode will begin with a short introduction to help set the context of the passage.

    Acts 20: Spiritual Friendship

    Alongside our Sunday teachings, we’re keeping things simple. We’ll be reading through the book of Acts, featuring the many unique voices of the ClearView Church congregation. Each week, we’ll release two chapters, followed by a few reflection questions. In this  episode, you’ll hear a brief introduction from Pastor Phil, followed by a reading of Acts 20 and some reflection questions from a member of our congregation. Read along with the following reflection: What stuck out to you from this chapter? Was it the extensive travel by boat or on foot? Perhaps the story of the young man being raised from the dead? Was it maybe Paul’s relentless commitment to “testifying to the gospel of God’s grace” as we read in verse 24? Or was it the sorrowful farewell to beloved friends and partners in the gospel? Take a few moments. Go back over the stories.  How is the Holy Spirit speaking to you through the text? Let your heart respond to God in prayer. Rest and be refreshed in His presence.     Acts 19: The Riot in Ephesus

    Alongside our Sunday teachings, we’re keeping things simple. We’ll be reading through the book of Acts, featuring the many unique voices of the ClearView Church congregation. Each week, we’ll release two chapters, followed by a few reflection questions. In this  episode, you’ll hear a brief introduction from Pastor Phil, followed by a reading of Acts 19 and some reflection questions from a member of our congregation. Read along with the following reflection: As you listened to this story, what stood out to you? Was there a word or phrase you sensed the Holy Spirit drawing your attention to? Paul begins by asking a simple question: "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" Why do you think this was the first question he asked? What does it reveal about the importance of the Holy Spirit in the life of faith? What is one thing in your life that the Holy Spirit may be inviting you to surrender, trust, or transform?     Acts 18: Tentmakers and Truth-Seekers

    Alongside our Sunday teachings, we’re keeping things simple. We’ll be reading through the book of Acts, featuring the many unique voices of the ClearView Church congregation. Each week, we’ll release two chapters, followed by a few reflection questions. In this  episode, you’ll hear a brief introduction from Pastor Phil, followed by a reading of Acts 18 and some reflection questions from a ClearView staff member. Read along with the following reflection: It's interesting to note that Paul was a tentmaker. So, not only was he a former Pharisee; a prominent and influential religious leader who became a follower of Jesus, but he also worked with his hands to earn a living. How might God use you to share the love and hope of Jesus through your work, relationships, and daily interactions, just as He used Paul? I also noticed that Acts 18 mentions several others who joined Paul in sharing the good news of Jesus: Aquila and Priscilla, Silas and Timothy, and Apollos. Following Jesus was never meant to be a solo journey. Sometimes we can feel alone in our faith at work, at school, or in our neighbourhoods. Yet God often places other believers around us—people we may not even realize share our desire to follow Jesus and make Him known. Have you experienced encouragement from another believer when you needed it most? As you pray today, ask God to open your eyes to others who are following Jesus in your workplace, neighbourhood, or community. Ask Him to show you how you might encourage one another and serve together. Take a moment to reflect on today's passage. What words, phrases, or people stood out to you? What might God be inviting you to notice, learn, or do? Respond to Him in prayer, and rest for a moment in His presence.     Acts 17: Paul in the City of Philosophers

Some strange, some challenging, some interesting, some troubling.  What are the latest ideas in the news or on socials, in articles, books, blog posts or other that have grabbed your attention of late? What do you notice about the way Paul introduces the Athenians to the idea of Jesus?  In verses 24-29 Paul presents the story of God. How did those who heard it respond? How might you tell the good news story of Jesus? Meditate on what has connected with your heart or mind…pray to God about what has moved you today. Turn your thoughts to God and enjoy being with him.     Acts 16: Paul and Silas in Prison

In this  episode, you’ll hear a brief introduction from Pastor Phil, followed by a reading of Acts 16 and some reflection questions from one of the young adults in our congregation. Read along with the following reflection: As you heard today’s passage, what word or phrase did the Holy Spirit draw your attention to?  What details from the story stirred within you? I keep thinking about Paul and Silas’ words, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” What impact did those words have on the early church?  How have they shaped the universal church of Jesus Christ?  What do they mean for you? Are they comforting? Challenging? Reassuring? Disturbing? Perhaps there were other ideas or phrases that captured your attention. Linger over them and ask God any questions you may have.  Pray your life to God and take a moment to rest in God’s presence.     Acts 15: The Council at Jerusalem

Read along with the following reflection: Traditions, customs, they’re a tough thing to let go of. When you hear today’s passage, what is the Holy Spirit drawing your attention to?  Over the centuries, the church has gathered to discern and wrestle with interpretation of many different things. What do you notice about the process that the early apostles and elders engaged with? It takes work to get to a statement like the one in verse 28: “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us…” How is this good news? To the original hearers? To the church of all time? To you and to me? Slowly repeat this phrase, “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us…” Pray your thoughts, desires, needs and feelings from your meditation. What details or moments stand out to you? Paul begins by telling a story—recounting the history of God’s people. Why do you think he chose to begin this way?  How might this story have sounded as good news to those hearing it for the first time? How has this same story continued to shape and encourage the Church over time? And today, how does this story speak into your life? In what ways do you see your own story woven into God’s greater story? Take a moment to bring your life before God in prayer and rest in His presence.
