    THE DECEPTION OF PRIDE: What Obadiah Teaches Us

    Obadiah may be the shortest book in the Old Testament, but its 21 verses carry a powerful warning: Pride can deceive us. Edom believed they were secure. They trusted their position, wealth, alliances, wisdom, and strength—but God exposed how fragile those things really were. In this episode of Where Faith Lives, we go back to Jacob and Esau to understand who Edom was, what happened between Edom and Israel, and why God’s judgment came against them. But this isn’t simply a history lesson. Edom’s story causes us to examine our own hearts. What happens when confidence becomes pride? What are we trusting for security besides God? How do we respond when someone who has hurt us begins to fall? And can our desire for justice quietly become a desire for revenge? Obadiah reminds us that pride doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it quietly convinces us that we’re secure because of what we have, what we know, who we know, or what we’ve accomplished. But God’s Word gives us the truth: “You have been deceived by your own pride.” — Obadiah 1:3 NLT Edom’s pride didn’t remain an attitude hidden inside their hearts. Eventually, it affected the way they treated others. When their brother Israel was suffering, they stood by, gloated, took advantage of the destruction, and participated in the suffering of people who were already down. And God saw it. Obadiah reminds us that we don’t have to become consumed with making someone pay for what they’ve done to us. God sees injustice. He sees betrayal. He sees what happens publicly and privately. Our responsibility is to remain humble, guard our hearts, and trust His justice. Don’t become Edom while waiting for God to deal with what somebody did to you. And after exposing Edom’s pride, false security, vengeance, and treatment of Israel, Obadiah ends by pointing us back to the One who has always been in control: “And the LORD himself will be king!” — Obadiah 1:21 NLT No mountain is higher than God. No earthly security can replace Him. No human power can overrule Him. And no kingdom will outlast His.     Rahab: Faith, Redemption & a New Story | Women of the Bible |Ep. 15

    Rahab entered the biblical story with a reputation. But she entered Hebrews 11 with a testimony. In this episode of Where Faith Lives, we continue our Women of the Bible series with Rahab—a woman whose story reminds us that our past does not get the final word when God steps into our lives. When we’re first introduced to Rahab, Scripture identifies her as a prostitute living in Jericho. But Rahab had heard about the God of Israel—and she believed. Her faith moved her to action. That decision led to her rescue, the rescue of her family, and a completely different future than the one we might have expected for her. Later, we find Rahab in Hebrews 11 among those remembered for their faith and in Matthew 1 in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Her past was real. But so was her faith.
So was her obedience.
So was God’s mercy.
And so was the future God had for her. In this episode, we’re talking about what it means to move from simply hearing about God to actually trusting Him, how genuine faith shows up in our actions, and why we should be careful about defining ourselves—or anyone else—by a chapter God may have already redeemed. 📖 SCRIPTURES REFERENCED • Joshua 2
