The Energy Xchange

Colleen Wolak

Welcome to The Energy Xchange, a podcast for deep feelers and quiet leaders ready for expansion. This is where we explore what becomes possible when you stop fighting your natural energy and start working with it, in your business, relationships, and daily life. I’m Colleen Wolak, a corporate marketer turned mentor for my fellow deep feelers and author of "The Empath Detox". As a highly sensitive professional who spent years untangling the patterns of overthinking, people-pleasing, and shrinking myself to feel safe, I now help others step into their power without losing the superpower of their softness. We don’t have to be loud to be seen, and we don’t have to push to be powerful. Everything is energy… let’s start this exchange!

    The Rooms That Shape Us

A lot of the rooms we find ourselves in were chosen by proximity — our workplace, our town, our industry, our existing networks. Those spaces serve a purpose, but they don't always give us access to the conversations, perspectives, or energy we're actually craving. In this episode, I'm exploring what happens when we go looking for more aligned rooms on purpose — spaces where we feel safe enough to show up fully, curious enough to have our thinking stretched, and connected enough to walk away with ideas we never would have reached on our own.  Because for deeply feeling people especially — the ones who naturally absorb and respond to whatever's around them — the rooms we spend time in really do matter. They shape what feels normal, what feels possible, and even what we let ourselves want. The goal isn't to find one perfect group of "your people." What's more helpful is an ecosystem of rooms... different spaces that bring different parts of us forward. This Episode Dives Into: Why so many of our rooms were chosen by proximity, not alignmentWhat becomes possible when we seek out more aligned spaces on purposeWhy the rooms we're in shape what feels normal and what we let ourselves wantWhy deeply feeling people are especially affected by their environmentsThe case for an ecosystem of rooms instead of one perfect groupQuestions to audit the rooms you're already in Who This Episode Is For: Highly sensitive people, empaths, and deep feelersAnyone who's outgrown the spaces they landed in by defaultPeople craving conversations they're not having anywhere yetQuiet leaders and thoughtful creators looking for aligned communityThose who feel shaped (for better or worse) by their environmentsAnyone ready to expand their world without blowing it up Links for this Episode: Subscribe to my Weekly NewsletterVisit My WebsiteWork WIth MeGet the Book: The Empath DetoxThe Empath Detox Oracle Deck

When the Reaction Is Bigger Than the Moment

Something small happens. One offhand comment, one changed plan, one shift in tone... and what comes up in me is so much bigger than the thing that actually just occurred.  For years I chalked it up to being sensitive. "That's just me, that's the wiring..." But that explanation stopped sitting right. Yes, the reaction was oversized, but the thing I blew up about usually wasn't the first time it had happened. It was 5th, 10th, 13th... There were many little moments I never said anything about, and by the time I reacted, I wasn't reacting to this, I was reacting to all of it. The other person just can't see that part. In this episode, I'm digging into what happens when we don't speak up while things are still small: the difference between actually letting something go and just going quiet, the way silence lets us build a whole relationship inside our own heads, and why the fix isn't forcing a giant confrontation but getting small, low-stakes reps that teach your body the world doesn't end when you speak up. This Episode Dives Into: Why triggers can feel so much bigger than the thing that set them offThe difference between letting something go and just staying silentRumination and body clues that tell you you're still holding onHow twelve unspoken moments become one giant reactionThe relationship you're having entirely inside your own headWhy we make big decisions without giving the other person a chance to shiftThe low-stakes nonprofit that taught me to speak upWhy you need reps, not just "better communication"Who This Episode Is For: Highly sensitive people, empaths, and deep feelersAnyone who keeps the peace until they suddenly can'tPeople who confuse staying silent with letting goConflict-avoiders who ruminate long after the moment passesAnyone who's left a job or relationship without ever speaking up firstThose learning to advocate for themselves in small, sustainable repsRelated Links: Subscribe to my Weekly NewsletterVisit My WebsiteWork WIth MeGet the Book: The Empath DetoxThe Empath Detox Oracle Deck

    Lowering the Cost of Entry

Before I'd recorded a single episode, I was researching podcast studio rentals. I had a very specific picture of what a "real" podcast looked like — 45 minutes, video, the microphones, the whole setup — and I'd quietly turned that picture into the price of admission. So for a long time, I didn't start at all. In this episode, I'm talking about how often we look at the polished, years-in version of something and accidentally make it our starting requirement. I record this podcast in the corner of the smallest room in my place. When I travel, I've recorded in closets. Some episodes are six and a half minutes long — and posting those brought up a whole different flavor of imposter syndrome. Not "who am I to do this?" but "does my version of this even count?" Here's what shifted it: the thing I thought was the podcast's weakness turned out to be what people love most. Which taught me something freeing — I had no idea what people actually wanted. And if none of us really know that, the better starting question isn't "what does the impressive version look like?" It's "what actually has to be true for me to begin?" This Episode Dives Into: How we turn someone else's final form into our cost of entryThe "does my version even count?" flavor of imposter syndromeThe feedback that flipped a perceived weakness into a strengthWhy we manage an audience's experience before they've even had itThe one question that cuts through it all Who This Episode Is For: Highly sensitive people, empaths, and deep feelersAnyone sitting on an idea they've wanted to start for months or yearsRecovering perfectionists who wait to feel "ready"Creators who redesign their work for an audience that doesn't exist yetQuiet leaders talking themselves out of starting before they beginAnyone who's made the final form their cost of entry Related Links: Subscribe to my Weekly NewsletterVisit My WebsiteWork WIth MeGet the Book: The Empath DetoxThe Empath Detox Oracle Deck

Why I’m No Longer Attached to the "Empath" Label

The word empath once gave me language for experiences I had never known how to explain. It helped me feel understood, and I’ll always be grateful for that. But these days, I’m less attached to it as the full explanation for who I am. Not because I’m rejecting the word (I wrote a whole book called The Empath Detox), but because I’ve come to see empathy as just one expression of a much broader sensitive nervous system. In this episode, I walk through the stages the label took me through: the relief of finally feeling understood, the sadness of recognizing where some of my hypervigilance came from, the anger of connecting old patterns to real experiences, and the realization that self-protection had quietly become the destination instead of the doorway. Understanding yourself matters… protecting your energy matters… but neither is meant to be the place where you stay. This episode explores what can happen when you stop treating sensitivity as something to manage and begin asking what it makes possible. This Episode Dives Into: Why I'm less attached to the word "empath" The stages the label took me throughWhere hypervigilance often comes from, and how it shapes usEmpathy as a capacity, not a character referenceMoving from "how do I protect my energy?" to "what becomes possible?"How understanding yourself is the invitation, not the destinationWho This Episode Is For: Highly sensitive people, empaths, and deep feelersAnyone who found relief in the word "empath" and has started to outgrow itPeople stuck in the protection-and-boundaries stage who sense there's moreQuiet leaders and thoughtful creators ready to expandSensitive people tired of treating how they're wired as a problemAnyone ready to ask what their sensitivity makes possibleLinks & Resources For This Episode: Subscribe to my Weekly NewsletterVisit My WebsiteBook a Storyboarding Session / Messaging AuditGet the Book: The Empath DetoxThe Empath Detox Oracle Deck

The Structure That Gives You More Freedom

If you've ever blown up a "perfect" routine two weeks in and decided the problem was you, I created this episode with you in mind. For years I was convinced I hated structure. That I was bad at routines, not disciplined enough, just too creative for any of it. Turns out none of that was true. I don't hate structure; I just can't thrive inside structures that are too rigid or too disconnected from how I'm actually wired. This week, I'm digging into why deeply feeling, deeply thinking people so often push back against systems, and the reframe that changed everything for me: good structure doesn't trap you, it protects your freedom. The goal isn't more discipline. It's finding the least amount of structure that still gets you where you want to go. This Episode Dives Into: Why you might not hate structure — just the rigid, "because I said so" kindThe pendulum swing from oppressive structure to zero structure (and why neither worked)Why good structure protects your freedom instead of stealing itThe "minimum effective structure" — and how to find yoursWhy the routine your inspired self designs isn't the one your everyday self can keepHow small early wins change your whole relationship to structureWhy forcing yourself into someone else's system so often backfiresWanting the result vs. wanting the lifestyle required to maintain itWho This Episode Is For: Highly sensitive people, empaths, and deep feelersCreative and independent thinkers who bristle at rigid systemsAnyone who's ever abandoned a "perfect" routine and blamed themselvesPeople who need the why before they can commit to the howAnyone chasing a result without asking if they want the lifestyle behind itThose craving consistency without burning out to get itLinks & Resources For This Episode: Subscribe to my Weekly NewsletterVisit My WebsiteBook a Storyboarding Session / Messaging AuditBook a Full-Scale Marketing Audit (Website/Messaging/Digital Presence)Get the Book: The Empath DetoxThe Empath Detox Oracle Deck

Your Worth Is a Misguided Pricing Metric (Pricing for HSPs)

I've lowered my pricing to get the job and then quietly resented the work the whole way through. More than once. It's one of the worst feelings there is — because you want people to get the best of you, and it's very hard to give someone your best when you don't feel good about what you agreed to. This came up with several coaching clients in the last week, so I wanted to talk about it: why pricing gets so strange for deeply caring people, and why "what am I worth?" is the wrong question to build a business on.  There's a far more useful question we need to be asking.   This Episode Dives Into: Why "what am I worth?" is the wrong pricing questionThe hidden energetic cost of highly sensitive workWhat sustainable pricing actually looks like — and how to test for itWhy ongoing access may need to cost more (and why that isn't greedy)How to build your offers around your energy, from free to highest-touchWhy we predetermine what people can afford — and why we need to stopResentment as information: what it's telling you about your price or scopeWhy your nervous system belongs in your business modelWho This Episode Is For: Highly sensitive people, empaths, and deep feelers running a businessCoaches, consultants, and service providers who are the businessAnyone who's undercharged and then resented the workPeople who lower their prices before anyone's even askedSensitive helpers trying to serve generously without burning outAnyone building offers that need to be sustainable for the long haulLinks & Resources For This Episode: Episode on Friends & Family DiscountsSubscribe to my Weekly NewsletterVisit My WebsiteBook a Storyboarding Session / Messaging AuditBook a Full-Scale Marketing Audit (Website/Messaging/Digital Presence)Get the Book: The Empath DetoxThe Empath Detox Oracle Deck
