    Kohima & Imphal: The Battles That Broke Japan’s Advance in India (with Robert Lyman) | Ep 36

    In 1944, Japan launched one of its most ambitious offensives of World War II—an invasion of India. What followed were the brutal Battles of Imphal and Kohima, two clashes that would help change the course of the war in Southeast Asia. Japanese forces pushed across the mountains from Burma, hoping to capture Imphal and Kohima, cut Allied supply lines, and trigger a collapse of British power in India.     Battle of Kasserine Pass, the defeat that made the U.S. Army stronger (with Kris Thompson) | Ep 33

    The Battle of Kasserine Pass was the U.S. Army’s first major confrontation with Germany’s battle-hardened forces in World War II—and it became a brutal lesson in leadership, command, and modern warfare. In February 1943, German and Italian forces under Field Marshal Erwin Rommel struck American positions in the mountains of Tunisia. The inexperienced U.S. II Corps, commanded by Major General Fredendall, suffered from poor coordination, scattered defensive positions, confused command arrangements, and inexperienced troops facing some of the most seasoned soldiers of the war. At Kasserine Pass, German forces broke through the American defenses and sent Allied units retreating through the Tunisian mountains. But the battle was not simply an American disaster. U.S. forces eventually stabilized the situation, and the defeat exposed weaknesses that the Army moved quickly to correct. Fredendall was replaced by General George Patton, training and discipline were intensified, command structures were improved, and American forces began applying the hard lessons learned in Tunisia. Just weeks later, the U.S. Army would demonstrate that it was already becoming a far more dangerous opponent.
