SALES TRAINING IS ONLY THE PART OF SALES

Many businesses assume that when sales are low, the immediate solution is sales training. But before you train your team, you need to assess the entire sales environment. Have you recruited the right people? Does your sales team have the resources and tools they need? Is there a proper CRM and customer database for managing leads and follow ups? Is management providing the right leadership? And importantly, how are salespeople being rewarded and motivated? Think about a business like a football team. You can hire a brilliant coach, but if you recruit the wrong players, the team will struggle. You can also have talented players, but with poor coaching and management, they may never perform at their best. The same applies to sales. Recruitment, resources, systems, CRM, leadership, targets, incentives and accountability all matter. Sometimes a salesperson may not push harder because their basic salary already satisfies them and the incentive structure does not encourage greater performance. That is why assessment should come before training.Understand what is stopping the sales team from performing, put the right structures and resources in place, and then use training to address the actual skills gaps. Sales training is not enough. Training should not automatically be the first intervention it should come after you understand the real problem. 🌐 Visit our website: https://thecharteredvendor.com 🔗 Connect with us: https://linktr.ee/thecharteredvendor #TheCharteredVendor #JerryMoreNyazungu #SalesTraining #SalesManagement #SalesStrategy #SalesLeadership #SalesTeam #BusinessGrowth

THE POWER OF BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS:LESSONS FROM FROM SIR WICKNELL

The Power of Building Relationships: Lessons from Sir Wicknell One important lesson we can learn from Sir Wicknell Chivayo is the power of building and maintaining relationships. In life, business and sales, having someone’s contact is not enough. You can have hundreds of influential people saved in your phone, but the real value comes from the relationships you build with those contacts. There is a big R between CONTACT and CONTRACT and that R is RELATIONSHIP. Relationships should never be purely transactional. Don’t wait until you need a favour, a contract, a sale or help before reaching out to people. Check on them. Understand what they are doing. Listen to their needs. Add value and stay connected even when you have nothing to ask for. Sir Wicknell’s ability to establish connections with influential figures across Africa provides an interesting lesson in the importance of networks and relationship-building. The same principle applies in sales and business. Don’t only call your clients when you want them to buy. Build rapport. Understand their businesses. Know their challenges. Check on them after the sale and continuously look for opportunities to add value. A relationship is bigger than a transaction. When you consistently build genuine relationships, you create trust. Trust can lead to referrals, introductions, partnerships, sales and opportunities you may never have anticipated. So, don’t just collect contacts hoping that one day they will give you a contract. Build the relationship first. Master the art of building relationships, because sometimes the difference between a CONTACT and a CONTRACT is simply that big R RELATIONSHIP. "Not Everyone Is Meant to Be an Entrepreneur." || Insights from Eng Calvin Chisoma X TCV

Engineer Calvin Chisoma, the Founder and CEO of Power Haven joins Jerry More Nyazungu on The Chartered Vendor Podcast for a candid conversation about entrepreneurship, engineering, faith, business pressure, solar energy, water solutions and the journey behind Power Haven. In this episode, Calvin challenges one of the most common messages in business today: not everyone is meant to be an entrepreneur. He explains why starting a company is often the easy part, while building, sustaining and managing one requires a completely different level of discipline, knowledge and resilience. He also shares how his entrepreneurship journey started at a young age, how Power Haven developed from electrical and solar work into the water sector, the role his wife played in building the business, and some of the realities entrepreneurs face when dealing with customers, employees, suppliers and regulators. The conversation also explores the importance of doing proper due diligence before trusting companies simply because they appear successful on social media. If you are building a business, considering entrepreneurship, or simply want to understand what it really takes to sustain a company, this conversation is worth watching. From Subsistence Farming to Agribusiness | TCV x Chamunorwa Kapita

Today I sit down with Mr Kapita Chamunorwa, CEO of Agric Rocket Engineering, for an important conversation about farming, passion, investment and the future of agriculture in Africa. For generations, many Africans have understood farming mainly from the perspective of subsistence grow enough maize, vegetables or livestock to feed the family and survive. Farming became something we did for survival rather than something we deliberately built into a serious commercial enterprise. But when other investors looked at the same African land, they often saw something different. They saw an opportunity to invest, introduce better systems, use technology, improve productivity, scale production and ultimately build profitable agricultural businesses. That should challenge the way we think. Africa has land, natural resources, a growing population and huge demand for food. But having resources alone does not automatically create wealth. We need to understand how to turn those resources into sustainable businesses. Farming requires passion, but passion must be supported by knowledge, investment, technology, proper management, financial discipline and a clear business strategy. We need to move beyond simply asking, What can I grow? and start asking bigger questions: How can I commercialise this farm? Who is my market? How can technology improve my productivity? How do I build proper systems? How can I scale without destroying the business? How do I create a farming enterprise that can survive beyond me? Agriculture should not only feed our families. It can create employment, develop communities, strengthen economies, generate exports and create generational wealth. In this conversation with Mr Kapita Chamunorwa, we explore the mindset required to start seeing farming differently—not simply as a way of surviving, but as an industry with enormous business potential. Perhaps the biggest question we need to ask ourselves as Africans is: Are we farming just to survive, or are we building agricultural businesses that can compete, scale and create wealth for generations? You Don’t Need to Own a Mine to Make Money in Mining | Cossy Rules x The Chartered Vendor

In this episode of The Chartered Vendor Podcast, Jerry sits down with Cosmas 'Cossy Rules' Daka for a practical conversation about the mining industry, particularly gold mining, and the business opportunities that exist around the sector. The discussion moves beyond the popular idea that entering mining simply means owning a mine, and looks at the wider ecosystem entrepreneurs can participate in. Cossy breaks down some of the different ways entrepreneurs can position themselves within the mining value chain. From mining itself to buying and selling minerals, supplying mines, providing services and supporting mining operations, the conversation highlights why there may be more opportunities in the sector than many aspiring entrepreneurs realise. The discussion also touches on licensing and the formal processes involved in participating in mineral trading. But mining is not presented as easy money. Jerry and Cossy discuss the realities entrepreneurs need to understand before entering the industry, including capital requirements, operating costs, equipment, production, regulation and the importance of knowing exactly where in the value chain you want to participate. The episode offers a useful perspective for anyone who sees the opportunities in Africa's mineral wealth but is unsure where to begin. The conversation also looks at the broader environment surrounding mining: government policy, regulation, investment and the need for more Africans to deliberately position themselves within industries built around the continent's natural resources. Rather than only looking at the mine itself, entrepreneurs need to ask a bigger question: What products, services, skills and businesses are required to keep the mining industry moving? Opportunities in the sector are explicitly discussed during the episode. If you are an entrepreneur, investor or simply curious about how the mining business really works and where the opportunities are, this is a conversation worth watching. Why African Businesses Die With Their Owners | The Chartered Vendor x Coach Taf

What does it take to build a business that outlives you? And why do so many African businesses die the moment the founder does? In this episode of The Chartered Vendor, Jerry sits down with Coach Taf, transformational coach, speaker, and entrepreneur with over 22 years of experience developing people, teams, and businesses across the continent. They get into everything from why African businesses fail to pass on to the next generation, to the arrival mentality killing performance inside companies, to what it actually takes to build intergenerational wealth in Africa. This is one of the most honest and wide-ranging conversations about African entrepreneurship you will hear this year. If you have ever wondered why your business is stuck, why your team has stopped pushing, or how to build something that lasts beyond you, this episode has the answers. SUBSCRIBE to The Chartered Vendor for more conversations that challenge the mindset holding Africa back and show what is possible when we start building differently. Key Takeaways From This Episode Coaching Is a Skill, Not Just a Gift: Delivery may be a gift but coaching is something you learn, practice, and refine over time. Coach Taf breaks down what separates real coaches from people who just call themselves one. African Businesses Are Dying With Their Owners: The absence of a family business charter, a family board, and defined roles for the next generation means most African businesses have no pulse beyond the founder. That has to change. The Arrival Mentality Is Killing African Teams: The moment people get the title, the car, and the office they stop pushing. Coach Taf unpacks why people settle, what vision does to change that, and how leaders must stretch their teams to keep growing. Strategy Without Rhythm Is Just a Document: Having a strategy is not enough. Businesses need implementation plans and rhythms, consistent daily and weekly practices that keep the pulse of the business pumping. Most African companies have none of these. Intergenerational Wealth Starts With Exposure, Not Just Inheritance: Children must be brought into the business early, sit in on conversations, understand the numbers, and learn to submit before they lead. A lifelong internship before the title, not after. About The Chartered Vendor The Chartered Vendor is a podcast about business, entrepreneurship, and everything it takes to make Africa great. 13 Reasons Your Sales Team Is Not Selling | Sales Warroom

Most companies think bad sales results come down to bad salespeople. They are wrong. In this episode of the Sales Warroom, Jerry the Chartered Vendor breaks down the 13 real reasons your sales team is not selling and why training alone will never fix a broken sales system. From wrong recruitment to weak leadership, missing KPIs to no sales process, this episode names every gap that is quietly killing your revenue. Whether you run a team, manage one, or are just starting out in sales, this is the reset your business needs. If your team is working hard but not closing, this episode will show you exactly where the system is failing them. SUBSCRIBE to Sales Warroom for more conversations that break down what it really takes to build a winning sales team from scratch. Key Takeaways From This Episode Wrong Recruitment Is Where It All Goes Wrong: Hiring based on degrees and experience alone is a costly mistake. Attitude is the real indicator of a great salesperson. Get the recruitment wrong and no amount of training will save you. Training Is Not Enough On Its Own: Sales success requires the right strategy, the right resources, and the right systems working together. Training is just one piece of a much bigger puzzle. Prospecting and Follow-Up Are Non-Negotiable: If your team is not hunting for new customers and following up relentlessly, they will never close consistently. The follow-up is where most deals are won or lost. Activity Targets Matter As Much As Sales Targets: Tracking results without tracking activity is like watching the scoreboard without watching the game. Calls, meetings, proposals and follow-ups all need to be measured daily. No Sales Process Means No Predictable Revenue: About 80% of companies have no defined sales process. If your team does not know the steps, they are just guessing and guessing does not scale. About Sales Warroom Sales Warroom is where sales gets real. Africa Needs to Stop Fighting AI and Start Using It | Miseducated Africa

Is Africa fighting the very tool that could transform it? In this episode, I sit down for a raw, unfiltered conversation about my upcoming book, Miseducated Africa, and why the continent is punishing people for using the most powerful productivity tool in human history, whether you are in a classroom, a studio, or a boardroom. From schools banning AI to workplaces dismissing designers and audio editors who use it, Africa is waging a war it cannot win and cannot afford to fight. If you have ever been made to feel like a cheat for working smarter, this episode will put words to the frustration you couldn't explain. SUBSCRIBE to the channel for more conversations that challenge the system and reimagine what Africa could look like when it stops being afraid of its own tools. Key Takeaways From This Episode Fighting AI Is Fighting Progress: From classrooms to creative studios, penalizing people for using AI is not protecting standards. It is protecting a system that was already broken. Memorization vs. Application: When you have PhD-level knowledge in your pocket 24/7, the real skill is no longer storage. It is judgment. Knowing what to do with information matters more than hoarding it. The Workplace Is Not Ready Either: Designers, audio editors, writers and marketers across Africa are being undermined for using tools that make them faster, sharper and more competitive globally. That is not integrity. That is fear. The System Was Built for a World That No Longer Exists: African education and work culture were largely designed to produce obedient employees, not innovative entrepreneurs. Miseducated Africa names that problem out loud. What the Future Demands: Critical thinking, prompt literacy, and the ability to synthesize information are the new survival skills. We break down what schools and workplaces should be doing instead. About the Book and My Mission Miseducated Africa is an unflinching examination of how the systems across the continent are producing graduates and professionals who are certified but underprepared, and what needs to change before another generation is left behind.
