42 - Bad Lieutenant - Port of Call: New Orleans (2009)

The boys are back in the Bayou this week to talk about the utterly demented yet oddly heartfelt Werner Herzog crime thriller addiction parable "Bad Lieutenant - Port of Call: New Orleans". We get into the many careers of Herzog, learning about art house cinema as teens in the early 00s, properly harnassing Nicolas Cage, post Katrina NOLA, getting sober, smoking crack and how much this movie actually has to say despite saying it in the most psychotic way possible. Also discussed: Resident Evil, 9/11/2001, Less Than Zero, Dune, The Shining, American Psycho, Chronovisor, Justice League PLUS Ben has also now seen "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma" and if you were mad at Tim over his review then you really won't want to miss this! We will be back next week talking about with our final Massachusetts of the series, David Fincher's masterpiece "The Social Network". Thanks to Disco and Eric as always. Also discussed: Vampire Hunter D, Genocidal Organ, Boiler Room and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. We will be back next week finally talking Werner Herzog's deranged, post Katrina fever dream "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans". Thanks to Disco and Eric as always. 37 - Overnight (2003)

Friend of the show Jeremy returns as we try to discuss Troy Duffy's 2000 Boston crime thriller "The Boondock Saints", a movie that we all hate so much that this really becomes more a discussion of the 2003 making of documentary "Overnight". We get into Troy Duffy, his cool overalls, how hard directing movies is, delusional thinking, the incredible levels of bridge burning on display, enslaving your best friends, WWE theme songs and marvel at a man so unlikable we all wind up taking Harvey Weinstein's side on something. Also discussed: The End of Oak Street, La Flor pt. 4, the Venom films, The Samurai and the Prisoner, Schindler's List and The Worst Person in the World. All that plus Tim saw and didn't like "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma" and the boys pitch a new subgenre of death metal. Please note we recorded this during a bad rain storm and Ben and Jeremy's internet has some struggles but this episode is still plenty listenable and remember that this show is free. We will be back next week with a slight schedule change, come back for Andrew Dominik's brutally bleak Boston by way of Louisiana mob noir "Killing Them Softly". Light spoilers for Camp Miasma, skip from 24:40 - 26:45 to avoid. Thanks to Disco and Eric as always and make sure to follow Jeremy on Letterboxed at Jmball321. Also discussed: Ghost in The Shell 2, The Mist, Allied and Chainsmoker Cat yet again. We will be back next week talking about Troy Duffy's very bad 2000 Boston crime film "The Boondock Saints" along with the much better making of documentary from 2003 "Overnight".
