Grateful for Life, Grieving Rejection | With Pastor Eric Hutch (Ep.19)

What does it mean to be grateful for the gift of life while still grieving the pain of feeling unwanted? In this powerful episode of The Abort Ignorance Montana Podcast, Tanaia sits down with Eric Hutch, a pastor, adoptee, husband, father, grandfather, and author, to talk honestly about adoption, identity, belonging, loss, and the lifelong questions that can come with being adopted. Eric shares his personal adoption story, his journey of reuniting with his birth family, and the complicated emotions that came with discovering more about where he came from. His story holds a profound tension: gratitude that his birth mother chose life, alongside the grief of knowing he was placed for adoption and wrestling with what it meant to feel unwanted. Eric’s nearly 30 years of experience in pastoral leadership, counseling, and marriage and family ministry have shaped his passion for helping people understand their stories and find healing. He currently serves as Marriage and Family Pastor at Harvest Church in Billings, Montana. He and his wife, Shari, have been married for 37 years and have four sons and four grandsons. Eric is also the founder of Gravitas Leadership Institute and a Townsend Leadership Program Director, equipping leaders to grow in both character and competency. His own adoption and reunion journey inspired his 2026 memoir, 38 Septembers, which explores identity, belonging, loss, and the healing power of discovering one's story. This conversation explores the beauty and complexity of adoption—and what it means to affirm the value of life while making space for the grief, loss, and difficult emotions that can exist alongside gratitude. Listen to Eric Hutch’s story of adoption, reunion, faith, identity, and the profound truth that every life has dignity, purpose, and potential. Adoption in Montana: Supporting Women, Children, and Families | With Brinn Higinbotham (Ep.14)

In this episode of The Abort Ignorance Montana Podcast, host Tanaia Puchta sits down with Brinn Higinbotham of Sacred Portion Children's Outreach to discuss the realities of adoption, the needs of vulnerable children and families, and how Montanans can become part of the solution. Together, they explore common misconceptions about adoption, the challenges facing children in need of permanent families, and the opportunities for churches, communities, and individuals to support women, children, and adoptive families. This conversation highlights adoption not simply as an alternative, but as a life-affirming response that requires compassion, commitment, and community. Brinn's path into social work was shaped by a deep desire to connect with others, provide support, and make a lasting impact in the lives of children and families. Her early experiences included working in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), supporting children with developmental needs, and walking alongside individuals who had experienced trauma from interpersonal violence. These formative roles gave her a strong foundation in empathy, communication, and trauma-informed care. Over time, she felt called to use what she had learned in a way that more fully aligned with her faith and passion for serving others. Whether you're considering adoption, supporting a loved one through an adoption journey, or simply want to learn more about how Montana can better care for women, children, and families, this episode offers practical insights and an encouraging vision for the future.
