Work Hard Now Or Have It Hard Later

Send us a message ✨ I don’t want to work this hard forever… and that’s exactly why I’m willing to put the work hard in now. In this solo episode of Beyond the Tweezers, I’m talking about something I think we sometimes need reminding of.. if you want a different life, you have to be willing to do the work to create it. Episode Sponsor: Beauty Rules  Grab your ticket to the Elleevation Masterclass on the 27th September in London. Use code: FAB50 for £50 off your ticket! Grab your ticket now:https://beautyrules.co.uk/products/elleevation-masterclass We hear so much about slowing down, protecting our energy and creating more freedom - and I completely agree, I am one of them people. Looking after yourself matters. Rest matters. Having a life outside of your business matters. But there are also seasons where you have to graft. There have been so many times when I’ve been tired, when I could have sat watching Netflix for another two hours, or when I simply couldn’t be bothered. But I know the life and career I want in the future, and nobody else is going to build that for me. I don’t want to still be working on the tools at 50 because I HAVE to. I want choices. I want freedom. And I know that what I do now is helping me create that later. You can work hard now and make things easier for your future self, or you can choose easy now and potentially make things harder later. This episode is your reminder that no one is coming to save you. Your goals are yours - and sometimes, you have to be willing to get up and go after them even when you don’t feel like it. Because the life you keep imagining? You have to be the one to build it. Grab your ticket to the Elleevation Masterclass on the 27th September in London. Use code: FAB50 for £50 off your ticket! Why The Client Experience & Vibe You Create Matters More Than You Think | Minola Tuite

Send us a message ✨ How do you create a beauty business that clients don’t just visit once… but keep coming back to for years? This week I’m joined by Minola Tuite, whose journey started working from her mum’s lounge and conservatory. In the early days, she even volunteered in a salon for free to gain experience and learn what it was really like to work in a salon environment, before eventually opening a salon of her own. This episode is sponsored by Beauty Rules Grab your ticket to the Elleevation Masterclass on the 27th September in London. Use code: FAB50 for £50 off your ticket! Grab your ticket now: https://beautyrules.co.uk/products/elleevation-masterclass We talk about the reality of opening a salon for the first time - the struggles, the challenges and everything Minola learned along the way, as well as how she’s gone on to create a thriving salon and a client experience that has kept some of her clients with her for around 10 years. Minola shares how much thought goes into the details we can sometimes overlook: your salon interior, branding, atmosphere, client experience and even the different senses your clients pick up on from the moment they walk through the door. We also talk about her idea of creating a “third space” for her clients, somewhere they can escape, switch off and instantly feel relaxed and why the experience and vibe you create can be just as important as the treatment itself. But building a thriving business also came with a point where Minola realised she was doing too much. She shares the period where she was cramming clients into her diary and her now husband asked her, “Do I have to book an appointment to see you?” and how that changed the way she structures her business today. We also get into bridal lashes and how Minola naturally became a go to lash artist for brides, how she creates a bridal experience beyond just the lashes, and we finish with a little Bridal Lashes: This or That. If you want to fill your diary, build a loyal client base and create an experience that makes your clients genuinely excited to come back, this episode is for you. 💗 Connect with Minola: https://www.instagram.com/thisisminola?igsi=NDY1bGY1MmdxYjBo This episode is sponsored by Beauty Rules  Grab your ticket to the Elleevation Masterclass on the 27th September in London. I Got Fully Booked… And Hated What My Business Became

Send us a message ✨ Being fully booked used to be the goal. I wanted to be the person saying, “Sorry, I’ve got nothing for five weeks.” I wanted the waitlist. I wanted to feel in demand. And when I finally got there, it felt amazing… until it didn’t. Shop Lash Oasis: https://lashoasis.co.uk/ Grab your ticket to the Back To Business Online Conference: https://loredanairimia.com/ Use Code: BEYOND10 In this solo episode, I’m talking about what happened when being fully booked started leaving me overwhelmed, drained and feeling completely stuck in my own business - including the moment I caught myself secretly hoping a client wouldn’t rebook. I share how getting a business mentor, understanding my numbers and changing my prices completely changed the way I looked at my business, as well as what I learnt from trying to expand my business last year and why something not working out doesn’t always mean you’ve failed. We also talk about goals, money, knowing your worth and why the version of success you’re chasing now might not actually be the version you want when you get there. And at the end, I’m giving you some questions to think about in your own business, because maybe being fully booked isn’t actually the goal. Maybe the goal is building a business that works for the life you want. Are You Winging Your Business Finances? With Gemma The Beauty Boss Accountant

Send us a message ✨ If the money side of your beauty business has ever made you feel like you're just winging it… this episode is for you. This week I'm joined by Gemma, The Beauty Boss Accountant, who has built a career helping people in our industry understand their numbers without making accountancy feel scary, overwhelming or ridiculously complicated. We start with Gemma's story - from growing up on a council estate and being underestimated at school, to losing her dad while sitting her accountancy exams and using that experience as motivation to make something of her life. Then we get into the stuff I know SO many beauty business owners have questions about. We talk about managing your money, business bank accounts, increasing your prices, what you can and can't claim as an expense, Making Tax Digital, accountants, sole trader vs limited company and when it might actually be time to make that change. Gemma also busts some common accounting myths and we put her to the test with a game of “Can I claim it or not?” 😆 What I love about Gemma is how simple she makes everything feel. There's no confusing accountant language and no judgement, just genuinely useful advice that actually makes sense for people running businesses in the beauty industry. Because whether you've been in business for ten years or you're only just starting out, understanding your numbers is something we ALL need to get better at. And as Gemma reminds us in this episode… we only get one life. Sometimes you've just got to put yourself out there and go for it! I Started a Podcast Because I Felt Alone in Business

Send us a message ✨ Why did I actually start Beyond the Tweezers? It wasn't because I wanted another thing to add to my workload and it definitely wasn't because I knew what I was doing. In this solo episode, I'm taking you right back to where the idea began. From discovering a podcast during a really low point that completely shifted my mindset, to writing three simple words in my journal ‘start a podcast’  and eventually deciding to actually make it happen. Shop Lash Oasis: https://lashoasis.co.uk/ I'm also sharing the reality behind starting Beyond the Tweezers - teaching myself the tech, wondering whether anyone would listen, nearly convincing myself I couldn't do it, and why I wanted to create something I wish I'd had when I first became self employed. Because building a business can feel incredibly lonely. Social media shows us the wins, but it rarely shows us the mistakes, the self doubt, the difficult clients, the sleepless nights or the moments where we wonder whether we're actually good enough. Beyond the Tweezers was created to have those conversations. Seven months in, this podcast has already changed me in ways I didn't expect and I genuinely feel like we're only just getting started. Whether you've been here since episode one or you've only just found the podcast, thank you for being part of it. 💗 In this episode we talk about: The podcast that completely changed my mindsetWhy I wanted to create what I wish existed when I started in beautyWriting "start a podcast" in my journalThe conversation that felt like a sign to finally do itTeaching myself how to create a podcast from scratchThe fear that nobody would listenWhy social media can make self-employment feel so lonelyHow Beyond the Tweezers has changed my confidence and perspectiveWhere I want the podcast to go nextNew episodes of Beyond the Tweezers every Monday. The Woman Behind Lustre Lash | From Bouncer to Beauty Brand Founder, Nina Attfield

Send us a message ✨ Today's episode is one of the most emotional and inspiring conversations we've ever had on Beyond the Tweezers. Nina shares the story behind the woman she is today - a journey shaped by unimaginable trauma, resilience, and the determination to create a life that was hers. Episode Sponsors: This Episode is Sponsored By Lash Oasis. want to try their new Hybrid Korean Lash Lift system?  Use code: KARIS10 on your first order! Shop Lash Oasis: https://lashoasis.co.uk/ As a child, Nina dreamed of becoming a barrister so she could "put bad people away" after witnessing her mum being fatally attacked. She opens up about how that experience affected her growing up, the challenges she faced in later life, and how domestic abuse and mental health struggles could have easily defined her story...but didn't. Instead, she chose to keep moving forward. From working as a nightclub bouncer while building her beauty career, to owning a salon, launching successful brands and organising one of the beauty industry's lash & business events, Nina's journey is anything but ordinary. We talk about the reality of building businesses whilst carrying personal trauma, owning a salon, managing difficult staff, dealing with theft within the business, and the lessons that completely changed the way she now approaches business. Nina also shares the incredible story behind Lustre Lash - a brand born from helping a client going through cancer treatment who simply wanted to feel like herself again. From creating magnetic strip lashes to later developing products for men experiencing hair loss, her passion for finding solutions shines throughout this conversation. We also dive into buying Lashphoria, running Lash Connect, creating industry events, building brands, the realities of white labelling, the financial challenges behind launching products, and why personal branding is often the most overlooked part of building a successful business. This episode is heartbreaking, inspiring and incredibly honest. It's a reminder that our past may shape us, but it doesn't have to define where we're going. If this episode resonates with you, I'd love it if you could leave a rating or share it with someone who needs to hear Nina's story. ⚠️ Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of childhood trauma, domestic abuse, suicide, and mental health which some listeners may find distressing. Can I Still Chase My Dreams and Have Children?

Send us a message ✨ I think as business women, we're all a little bit guilty of constantly chasing the next thing. We're ambitious. We move the goal posts, we hit one goal and before we've even celebrated it, we're already asking ourselves, "What's next?" Main Sponsor: This Episode is Sponsored by London Lash, the go to brand for professional lash products, education, and tools designed to help artists achieve consistent, long-lasting results. Enjoy an exclusive listener discount on your next order: 20% off with code KARIS20 T&Cs apply. https://londonlashpro.com/?utm_source=podcastsponsorship&utm_medium=videos&utm_campaign=behindthetweezers&utm_content=episode18 Episode Sponsors: This Episode is Sponsored By Lash Oasis. want to try their new Hybrid Korean Lash Lift system?  Use code: KARIS10 on your first order! Shop Lash Oasis: https://lashoasis.co.uk/ Contact Lash Oasis to become a distributor: hello@lashoasis.co.uk Sometimes I wonder if we become so focused on building our businesses that we forget to stop and think about what we actually want our future to look like. As I'm getting closer to 30, I've found myself doing exactly that. Jack and I have been having more conversations about children, and if I'm honest, I've realised I've been carrying around a lot of fear. Fear of losing my identity. Fear of losing momentum in my business. Fear of stepping away from everything I've worked so hard to build. In this episode, I'm opening up about those thoughts. I share why I've always struggled with change, the story of bringing home Tux and why I couldn't imagine having children at 25, the advice people have given me over the years, and why one conversation with a previous podcast guest completely changed my perspective. I also talk about something that isn't spoken about enough... not knowing what your fertility journey might look like. We can spend so much time waiting for the "right" chapter, when the reality is, none of us know what the future holds. I feel like you blink and another year has gone by. The older we get, the more these conversations naturally come up, and as women that can sometimes feel like pressure. Pressure to make a decision. Pressure to know what you want. Pressure because time can feel like it's moving faster than you'd like. But I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. If you don't want children, that's completely okay. If you do want children, that's okay too. The most important thing is creating a life that feels right for you, not the life other people expect you to have. One thing I realised whilst recording this episode is that maybe I've been looking at it all wrong. Maybe I haven't been building my business instead of having children. Maybe I've been building it for that chapter. As beauty professionals, we've built careers around flexibility, freedom and a skill that nobody can ever take away from us. Our businesses can evolve with us, and maybe that's something we should be really proud of. Whether you have children, don't want children, are still deciding, or you're simply having these conversations yourself, I hope this episode reminds you that you don't have to have all the answers today. Maybe this is just your reminder to pause for a moment and ask yourself what you really want from the next chapter of your life. — New episodes of Beyond The Tweezers are released every Monday.
